Another possibility is the perp found the phone the next day turned it on and then realized it was BD's or saw all the calls/texts and turned it back off and threw it away. Not sure this really is plausible but putting it out there.

This does sound possible to me Rochestergirl.

Since some the articles published about the search efforts for this weekend in MB have made references to trying to find BD's cellphone, I just had another thought. Could it be possible Brittanee, herself, somehow got away and tried to make a call on her cellphone and maybe it stayed on for that one minute and then battery went dead again. Maybe the perp realized she was doing this and got the phone back away from her. Some of the "intimate details" we don't know about that are not being published could be they maybe got a 911 call from that phone. I found a web site about being able to use a cell phone to call 911, even if you don't have service on it. It was stated that in 1997 it was mandated that cell phone companies would be required to put calls through on 911 even if there was no longer paid customer service on the phone. It further stated that if a person did use the phone to dial 911, if there was no paying service on the phone, the 911 operator would not be able to call you back.

Very Possible BD could have gotten the phone... never thought about that.

I've heard the same that you can always dial 911 service or not, but not sure if that would work with a dead battery.

The battery might not have been dead in the mentioned scenario, the phone may have simply been turned off until that minute and then was turned off again when it was taken away again - it's possible that the dead battery theory is just that - a theory that fits what they know so far and the KISS principle.

where is she, can't believe nothing

Brittanee Drexel search wraps up

By Graeme Moore
Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 8:36 p.m.

The search for missing spring breaker Brittanee Drexel wrapped up Sunday, but crews left with no new information on her whereabouts.

Searchers from the CUE Center for Missing Persons spent Saturday and Sunday scouring areas along the Charleston/Georgetown County line. A few hours on Sunday afternoon were spent re-searching areas in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Police said if and until new leads are developed, no more large-scale searches are planned. The investigation and tracking down current leads, however, will not stop, said Detective Vincent Dorio.

Drexel, 18, from Rochester, NY, vanished from Ocean Boulevard around 9:00 p.m. on April 25th.

A reward is being offered, and anonymous tips can be called in to the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1963 or to the CUE Center at 910-232-1687.

please correct me if i am wrong....i called 911 from my sprint phone in 2008, it locked me out to making any other calls. i am not sure it let me
turn it off, i am thinking i had to take the battery out to do anthing.
am i wrong?
bluestarzzz

IF BD is no longer with us... I can't imagine someone galavanting around the countryside looking for a spot.

In my mind BD would have been out of a vehicle at the first or second prime spot found. Because who is going to ride around with a body for any great length of time.

Would even a local traipse around and into dense woods after dark - with dangerous snakes and other assorted wildlife?

These things lead me to believe that IF BD is no longer with us that she would be found closer to MB than further away. JMO.

Nope - you are not wrong. US Cellular is my provider and I have used both my Nokia and LG to make a 911 call. I was locked out from making any further calls - but I was able to turn off my phone and then turn it back on to become "unblocked"

That does sound fairly logical - if she was killed in the vehicle or near MB. If however there is a kill scene (or as we would hope, a 'holding area') that she was transported to, it could be a fair distance away, as highway travel is not conducive to escape and can take you a great distance in a short time. That said, in that area, how easy would it be for her to have wound up on a boat, alive or dead? That's the scenario that really worries me, in terms of her ever being found, one way or another.

I agree - which brings up another point. Could she have been transported down around to Charleston...and handed over to someone else?

I have a theory about this...but if I put it out here it could come back to bite me in the *advertiser censored**...since the only way to tell it is to infer certain people...

My understanding - about the boat situation - A boat has to file a 'sail plan' (especially with a rental) just like a pilot has to file a 'flight plan'...(well at least something similar) - so if any boats went out that night, there should be some kind of record of this and I would hope the MBPD has checked this.

omg I am SO happy to finally have my acct verified so I can post. Listen up! About 3 weeks after Brittanee disappeared I went to Georgetown with my husband for a fishing tournament. (we live about an hour outside of Georgetown, so it's not that far.) We checked into the hotel Thursday night and I layed out by the pool Friday morning. As I was laying there relaxing, the thought of Brittanee hit me like a ton of bricks. I sat up and kinda freaked out a little bit. I got up and started finding hotel staff and asking them questions. Of course, no one had seen or heard anything. I told my husband when he got back that I just had a strong feeling that she, or something important, was very close to where we were. I just could NOT shake that feeling... for 3 days. The hotel is sitting on a marina. There are SO many boats docked there and if you own one of them, you can come and go on your boat at any time. There are no gates or guards. There are also no cameras pointing to the entry dock of the marina.
Here is a link to the hotel via Google Maps.

Okay, (If you look at the map you can zoom in to see all the boats at the marina) Look around the peninsula back up to Front St. THAT'S where all the partying goes down. There are many restaurants and clubs that sit right on the water back there and the old paper mill is at the back, which is made of steel! (I read on here that her astrology cards showed that she's near steel of some sort).
I also read that the person responsible for taking her came from a wealthy family (according to the cards). Well, let me tell you, THIS is where the wealthy people are. Some of those boats out there are multi-million dollar boats.

(Sorry for the lost post, but I can't help it!)
We're going back this coming weekend for another fishing tournament. If anyone has picked up ANYTHING that I need to be looking for, or in any specific location, please let me know.
Look at all that land around our hotel. I just feel like I need to be looking for something out there! I couldn't sleep last night because I wanted SO badly to know what to look for and where!

The google map link took me to my address and not the hotel address.

Sometimes people have very powerful intuition. If you feel this strongly about this I wouldn't let the feelings go by the wayside. Without knowing what to look for specifically I'd probably set out to look for anything that looked out of place. The lack of cameras is unfortunate. Do you think it's possible they have hidden cameras? Depending on how strongly you feel toward the astro forums perhaps you would begin by looking around the Paper Mill.

Wonder how easy it would be for someone to steal or borrow a boat? I know you posted that there are no cam's pointing at the entry dock, but is there someone who would oversee the marina and know about boats coming and going? Is this marina staffed 24/7?

People borrow each others boats quite frequently, especially to ride over to Front St, by water, to hit the bars and restaurants.
There is no one who oversees the marina. We've been going there for 4 years, usually 5-7 times a year and the only person that 'stays' there is the person who runs the little convenience/tackle shop out on the walkway, but they close up the store at 6pm. My husband and I own our own surveillance and alarm business and the last time we were there we looked the place over for cameras. There are none out on the dock and the hotel cameras just cover the parking lot and the pool.
During a fishing tournament there is a lot of activity out on that dock and people are in and out all night, partying. The weekend she disappeared there was a tournament. The tournament weigh-in was at a different location but many people who participated keep their boat at this marina by the hotel.

I haven't looked at the map yet because it wont load on my work computer, but to get to the marina which business would esentially be the last you would pass that would have a camera? If you don't understand what I mean I can try to clarify.

Just asking some questions here...

How well lit is this marina? How far is the parking lot to the nearest boat? Is any part of the marina obscured from view of any hotel/business that is in close proximity? Does this marina offer rentals? Or do boat owners rent out their own boats?
