Yeah, it takes no money, no skill, no settings or stagings or post-production, to upload photos to a website. A toddler could possibly be taught to do it -- I'd say for an average intelligence kid, a 10 year old could be taught to do it.

His site was set up through so many proxies and other hosts though. It was a lot more complicated than wordpress or godaddy.

Bbm: Huge crowd. Beautiful show of solidarity tonight in Charleston.

This is a very true picture of the people of Charleston. A lovely lot, they are. The rest of the world could stand to take notice.

What a beautiful message.

Perhaps all suspects are not treated the same. From the Charlotte Observer (a better than average newspaper, I'd reckon):
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article24952345.html

"In Shelby, the FBI handled Roof’s initial questioning, Ledford said. Shelby police’s lone conversation with the mass-murder suspect was about food. Earlier in the day, Roof had bought water and chips at a south Charlotte gas station. Now he was hungry. Police bought him food from a nearby Burger King, Ledford said."

Personally, I'm not opposed to LE buying food for a suspect, if they think it will help them with rapport or gaining a confession later, and custody is also about taking care of someone. I do wonder how universal this practice is.

I'm not judging, but I'm wondering.

Republicans return donations from white supremacist

Republican presidential candidates, GOP lawmakers and the lone black Republican in the House are returning donations from the leader of a white supremacist group cited by Charleston church murder suspect Dylann Roof or giving the money to charity.

Rep. Mia Love of Utah, an African-American Republican woman who was elected to the House last year, said through a spokesman that she had returned $1,000 in donations from Earl Holt, leader of the Council of Conservative Citizens.

The campaigns of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Rick Santorum said they would donate the money received from Holt to a fund set up by Charleston's mayor to assist the victims' families.

"I abhor the sentiments Mr. Holt has expressed," Santorum said in a statement. "These statements and sentiments are unacceptable. Period. End of sentence."

(Detailed article at link..even candidates from previous elections are rejecting Holt's cash!)

I'm thrilled that some of the candidates are going to be donating to the Charleston victims instead of simply returning the money back to the racist Council of Conservative Citizens
:happydance:

I get the impression in an interview with his sister that he is fairly intelligent. I think my kid could figure out a proxy thing, as a matter of fact, I told him to disguise our IP address if he uses torrents. He just replied, OK

I'm not a computer expert, but this isn't like programming in code -- it's more like learning how to use a remote control. Ain't no big thang.

Did you read what he had to do to get it set up? My guess is once you get involved with those sites they can walk you through it and that's how he got the help. I was following on twitter while they were breaking it down like how he got the url, how they moved it to another country, and whether or not he could pay wit US $, etc. It's not something you would just know how to do.

I'm not suggesting someone had him do it tough. More like click here to learn how to set up your own racist site.

I wish I could find those tweets. There were two programmers working together. Sound familiar?

Since joining WS I use a proxy all the time. These place leads me to some very strange places. :)

Meet the anonymous online sleuths who dug up Dylann Roof’s deranged manifesto
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...s-who-dug-up-dylann-roofs-deranged-manifesto/
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a racist manifesto credited to Dylann Roof did, in fact, belong to the 21-year-old accused of killing nine African Americans in a Charleston church last week.

But had it not been for two enterprising Twitter sleuths, Roof’s Web site — which could derail any future attempts to plead insanity — may never have come to light.

IMO, these people/this group has way too much in common with ISIS and other terrorist groups. They're providing a training program to activate violent racists. I hope the FBI or DHS finally puts them out of business. They should be tracking every person who is a member of this dangerous group.

ETA

Just some of the disgusting views of CCC:

Among the positions Roof shared on behalf of white supremacists he so closely identified with:

black people "rape our women"
black people are "taking over the country"
black people are "the real racists"
[black people] have to go

Southern Poverty Law Center recently issued a report about a similar white supremacist group called "Stormfront" whose members have murdered over 100 people in the last five years. That's domestic terrorism.

Totally agree Betty P. These people are terrorist and have no right enjoying the freedoms we have here. People like that are an ugly blemish on our country. I am all for free speech, but a group like stormfront, that has that track history of members murdering people is no longer just a place for ugly speech. That is ridiculous. They need to be shut down.

I know it can be a slippery slope protecting freedom of speech and I am one who usually says it doesn't matter how hateful it is, it's important to protect it, but when members of your group have taken 100 lives, it's time to come to a halt.

I think this massacre does fall into the category of domestic terrorism. These groups are renamed, re branded, reorganized, and legitimized (anyone can have a website). With the power to recruit: KKK, SS, al-Qaida, ISIS to name a few, they are effective in persuading a perspective of history. - DR becomes a pawn in a larger arena, in a larger narrative. I wonder and worry about who is labeling him a hero to the cause?

He might be the lone wolf who pulled the trigger but as he himself states he is not in a position to go it alone and fight. And, (imo) he is not alone in his hatred.

Each mass killing shines a light… some of them show it is rooted in something deeper: domestic issues include: Oklahoma, government; Isla Vista, women; Connecticut, mental illness and guns; South Carolina, Race.

Of course there is the international perspective, too: 911, Boston, and the numerous thwarted attempts on any given airline, train station, major city street, etc…

So, this child/boy/man had support in his concealed effort. Whether it be how to pose for pictures, create a phantom website, or write a manifesto, this person had help, he had guidance, and support. How could he have carried out such a misguided message without praise? Where did his narrative come from?

Dylann Roof Photos and a Manifesto Are Posted on Website
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/21/u...-website-charleston-church-shooting.html?_r=0

“I have no choice,” it reads. “I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country. We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”

The website was first registered on Feb. 9 in the name of Dylann Roof, the 21-year-old man charged with entering the historically black Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston on Wednesday night, attending a prayer meeting for an hour and then murdering nine parishioners. The day after the site was registered, the registration information was intentionally masked.

It is not clear whether the manifesto was written by Mr. Roof or if he had control of it. Nor is it clear whether he took the pictures with a timer, or if someone else took them. In a joint statement Saturday night, the Charleston Police Department and the F.B.I. said they were aware of the website and were “taking steps to verify the authenticity of these postings.”

Agree, and I think we have to closely monitor these groups for the sake of public safety. The SPLC published the following report in February, studying the type and frequency of the "lone wolf" type of attacks and murders.

http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/news/splc-report-lone-wolf-domestic-terrorism-on-the-rise

They're trying to examine and understand the cycle of radicalization that leads these hate groups to spur lone wolf terrorists to strike.

Here's a link to the actual report: The Age of the Wolf

http://www.splcenter.org/lone-wolf#timeline

Here's a timeline for all the domestic terror crimes they studied since 2009

http://www.splcenter.org/sites/default/files/downloads/publication/timeline_terror_splc-lonewolf.pdf

They cover the gamut from anti-government to white supremacy to anti-abortion terrorism. Since its hard to tell when they're going to strike, it seems it would be more helpful to shut down the groups and web sites that feed their hate and aggression. They certainly should begin censoring and toning down hate talk on television and radio. It's fairly common knowledge that many television and radio shows use "dog-whistle" or stochastic terrorism in mass communications to trigger radicals to take action.

Stirring up racist and anti-government hysteria is dangerous for the general public and for law enforcement.
