Agreed. Alex is going to be the mastermind, and it comes down to if he was the trigger man (using two weapons to throw off investigators), or if he farmed it out.

I'm leaning towards the latter, like you. He'd want a solid alibi.

Do you believe that Alex KNEW that Paul was there? I still believe that MM was the target, and have wondered if Alex had an accomplice that Alex directed to kill Paul SINCE he WAS there, and thus the different gun. Hence, the statement Alex made while on the 911 call.

I STILL wonder if Alex' father was in on it. But we will probably never know that. But I do believe that Randolph, the father, did know that Alex was really in deep doo doo, before the murders.

I'm not sure who did it, but it will be doubly terrible if Alex was involved in anyway, and all about the money. This story is despicable any way you look at it. How could so many people be involved in such evil for so long, and all after more money. It literally makes me sick. How could no one know, or were they all afraid of the Murdaugh's? It is amazing how a family can gain such control over a period of time. Was there no one who could stand up to them and call them out for what they were? It took all these deaths and stolen money to reveal what is probable just some of the secrets? Moo. Katt

I believe AM is actually that clueless when it comes to understanding that the rules (ie phone monitoring) apply to him. He obviously believes it's normal for the son to need 4 or 5K for a golf outing, drinks and a souvenir shirt.

MOO
There is something “off” with that
I think it’s coded conversation

Do you mean Alex? I wouldn't be surprised now if it did start before 2011. Completely amoral, it's as if he was using the firm to farm for people to rip off. The murders were the end of the story, or close too the end, not at the beginning. I hope the investigators investigate the crap out of this, leave no stone unturned. It is inconceivable that this went on for so long, involving two law firms and a bank at least, and no-one knew. I also wish-of course, and still, that there will be arrests made on the murder soon.

I meant to say Alex.

I'm still just getting familiar with this case, and trying to avoid getting sucked into all the side details. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but my thoughts are: So often it is the husband who's responsible for a wife's murder. That's where police always start, especially if she's been to see a divorce lawyer. Who else has a motive to kill her?

And then, if he really was addicted to opoids for two decades (hard to believe anything he or his lawyers say, which is another reason to assume he was involved, he's so inherently devious), his brain was probably so addled, he could well have decided to eliminate Paul as a way to make that endless court case/liability problem go away.

However, to me Alex seems incapable of actually pulling it off, plus needing an alibi, so I think he hired someone. Or promised them something.

His alledged suicide attempt, IMO, was really an attempt to cover up his role in the murder, by trying to make himself seem a victim of the same criminals.

I would guess that it was not so much money itself he cares about, but that money props up his status/self image as superior and all-powerful, part of this great, legendary family. And probably needing money for his addiction and perhaps pay off the unnumerable people he owes favours to, who are blackmailing him, or are backers that keep his ponzi scheme/insurance frauds afloat.

There's the well-known saying about such families: rags to riches to ruin. In this case, it seems to have taken 4 generations rather than the usual 3.

The state Supreme Court’s disciplinary arm is investigating a connection between suspended Hampton attorney Alex Murdaugh and the former owner of Murdaugh’s sprawling hunting property, according to legal documents obtained by The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.

The S.C. Supreme Court’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel, as part of its probe into Murdaugh’s financial misconduct as a lawyer, named the estate of Barrett Thomas Boulware, the former owner, and others in a subpoena sent to the Allendale County Probate Court in late November.

It’s unclear, however, why the disciplinary arm subpoenaed Boulware’s records — whether it’s to scrutinize how Murdaugh became owner of his 1,770-acre hunting property, Moselle; to investigate financial crimes Murdaugh may have committed against Boulware; or for another reason.

The subpoena, obtained by the newspapers, sought records from the estate files of Boulware and his mother, Ann Owens Boulware. It also asked for all cases involving former Palmetto State Bank CEO Russell Laffitte, who was fired last week, and a specific case that involved Murdaugh and Laffitte.

Barrett Boulware, described in his 2018 obituary as a commercial fisherman who operated out of Beaufort, owned the Moselle property — which has its own dedicated location on Facebook — until he transferred it to his wife in 2009.

Smith was found dead on a rural South Carolina road near a Murdaugh property after having suffered severe head trauma.

The teen's death was ruled a hit-and-run accident even though responding state troopers said they found 'no evidence to suggest the victim was struck by a vehicle'.

Earlier this summer, police announced that they had reopened their investigation into Smith's death, after new information was gathered during the investigation into the June 2021 double murder of Paul and his mother, Maggie Mudaugh.

Case notes obtained by WCBD revealed that at the time of the alleged hit-skip, investigators received anonymous tips suggesting Paul and his older brother, Buster Murdaugh, as persons of interest.

Well dang. AM's Recent jailhouse injuries are something I will mull over, with no success.

I wondered if one had to do with the other/this.

In another call, Waters said Murdaugh is heard telling someone else that a relative is loaning him money.

Murdaugh’s attorney state Sen. Dick Harpootlian also mentioned the jailhouse calls, referencing Murdaugh’s instructions to a family member to make a check payable to another inmate’s commissary account.
