SC judge sets Thursday hearing as lawyers in Murdaugh murder trial continue to spar

Judge C Newman has scheduled a 10:30 a.m. Thursday hearing in Florence.

Defense lawyers DH and JG allege that Smith is a key suspect in their murders and that prosecutors know that but are keeping it a secret and concentrating on Murdaugh as the sole suspect.

Harpootlian and Griffin also charge, in their latest motion filed Tuesday, that prosecutors are refusing to say the exact times of Maggie and Paul’s deaths and the reason is that perhaps prosecutors don’t know when they were killed.

Attorney General prosecutor C Waters is expected to argue against any motion that Harpootlian and Griffin bring before the judge.

I wonder how AMs side will play the possible crime scene contamination issue? An “out to get him” angle? They don’t have to present anything about polygraph results but just how much LE uses the detector test in investigations would seem relevant.

If its live here is Judge Newman's YouTube I believe:

A Mexican citizen has filed a lawsuit against disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh, his former law firm and former banker Russell Laffitte and his bank, alleging that settlement money owed to him from a lawsuit after a 2008 car crash is missing. “Defendants failed to inform Plaintiff of the amount of funds recovered on his behalf and to this date, the Plaintiff has never received the funds,” the lawsuit says. In response, the firm formerly known as Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick, or PMPED, told The State newspaper that the lawsuit “contains numerous allegations that are demonstrably false” and that in fact $73,000 in settlement funds paid to Manuel Santis-Cristiani, who filed the lawsuit.

On the final page of his response filing, though, Waters dropped a bombshell of his own narrowing down the time of death.

“If the defense needs further help for a start time, there is evidence of which the defense is well aware showing (Murdaugh)’s presence along with the victims at the crime scene at 8:44 p.m.,” he wrote.

The motion did not elaborate as to what evidence may have established this “start time.”

On Tuesday, June 15, SLED and the Colleton County Coroner's Office stated that the Murdaugh autopsies are complete and confirmed that both victims died from multiple gunshot wounds sometime between 9 and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7. Their bodies were found outside the residence, relatively close to each other, on the ground near a dog kennel.
