Manual strangulation would be very personal. You could strangle a person in very impersonal ways however. You could use a zip tie for instance, cinch it tightly around a person's neck, and walk away, moving on the the next victim.

A person could probably do 3 sleeping people in this way in under a minute. If you woke up with a zip tie tightened around your neck, I'm sure you would be far too panicky to do anything useful to save your own life in the few seconds of consciousness you had left.

I had NO idea you could strangle someone like that. Zip ties to me, are those things you use to hang Christmas lights around the porch. IF the perp did use zip ties, LE can usually find the manufacturer (maybe I watch too much Forensic Files) -- but I've watched how they retrace stuff right back to the store.

If in fact true, I hope this proves to be a good lead for LE and could be the reason it's taking so long for an arrest.

Best,

Mel

Gave me the "creepie crawlies" too but the bigger question is why a poster would "pop in" and so elaborately detail such a method ... refer to 3 people .. etc.

To quote Wrinkles, wouldn't that be a pistol if this were the method of strangulation?

Strange that a poster "fortells" in graphic detail .. at least from my keyboard ... the actual method used?

I wish Mr. "strangulation by zip tie" would reappear and elaborate.
Not me. That gave me the heebie jeebies. I hate to read anything like that on the internet. IF someone hadn't already thought of doing something like that, they could now. Sorry, it just creeped me out.

Hello SS,

Oh yeah -- yes and yup.

You are right. There would be no reason for a closed casket. Were the caskets kept sealed when sent to Chicago? (I would have had a funeral director there unseal them for viewing if I were her mother.)

I might have asked for an x-ray machine too.

Nobody hopes that didn't happen more than I do.

I just read LE had found a glove with red paint..similar to the paint used at the crime scene.

Anyone have any thoughts or observations on fmrchesterguy's post regarding "strangulation by zip tie"?

That it is a very effective way to do the trick. It rather creeped me out to think about it!

A glove found along Interstate 255 may be a key clue to who killed Sheri Coleman and her two sons in their home in Columbia, Ill., law enforcement sources said Monday.

They said the glove appeared to have stains from red spay paint. A similar color paint was used by the killer to scrawl a message on a wall inside the Coleman home, according to a police source.

Investigators are testing the glove for fingerprints and DNA, the sources said, and otherwise checking whether it can be linked to the crime scene.

I do too! You would think they'd want to take another closer look with the technology available now, that wasn't available then. We lived in the town where she was abducted from and I had very young boys at the time, so it hit too close to home wondering if anyone in the neighborhood was responsible (cough, cough). The husband spent weeks doing nothing but this case, even went on AMW for it.

I suspect you are LE. Did you work that case as well?

No, I'm not LE. Just have a friend.:)

EVERYTHING LE has is VERY incriminating. Can't wait to see this one go to trial and see what kind of story the defense comes up with to explain it.
Whoa, now that sure makes the mind race. I find comfort in just knowing this. Thank you!

Interesting. Found along Interstate 255. A road CC travelled. DVR, glove....hmmmm.

~Shudder~

I have to share that when my son worked for a cable company, they used these type of zip ties to bind the extra cording of the cable. Just putting it out there.

But inquiring minds want to know why you detailed one of the most gruesome of ways?

Gee .. us simple-minded were thinking of a ligature like baling wire

Sorry to say .. but I have my suspicions about the content of your post and ... well .. you!

Another poster and myself who exchanged PM's had to google and we read some really horrific things.

Everything about this case seems horrific.

Me too, SuziQ and why would a poster pick the most gruesome of methods to "regale" the forum with?

To go a little further, I could only read 3 accounts ... the most troubling was in Arkansas where a female's neck was constricted down to 3 inches.

That is heinous and so very evil! Somehow, a coat hanger seems benign!

They are very common when working with electronic equipment.

KSDK -- NewsChannel 5 has confirmed some of the evidence from the murder of a mom and her two sons in Columbia, Illinois earlier this month includes a glove with paint on it -- paint that's the same color that was sprayed on the walls of the home where the three died.

That glove and a DVD from a recorder were found by investigators as they searched along Interstate 255 near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.
