OT: Bernina, thanks for the pics of baby Zuri. She is going gray! Do you think she might roan out possibly? Also, do you do your horses' feet? Or does a farrier come?

My farrier is out every month during the warmer months as their feet grow more quickly. Two of mine are in shoes, the other two are barefoot, but get trimmed every 4-6 weeks. I noticed a lot of your ground is rocky. Does that help keep their feet trimmed? And do they ever have stone bruises or abscesses?

It is fascinating to me to see horses kept more naturally than mine are! Mine are blanketed, stabled, pampered and boarded. I would love to have your opportunity, but alas, it is not to be. I keep dreaming and will live vicariously through you lol.

With Zuri, the horse, ANYTHING is possible! Roan, dapple, we will see!

I do some minor filing on their hooves through out the year, and maybe have the farrier out once a year just to clip them back so their a little bit tender footed for about a week, that hardens up pretty quickly and they're good to go. Most peeps out here go aluminum with the shoes, unless they've got some corrective issues. For the most part, though, "barefoot" is the way to go unless they're competing, most of that's cowboy related, team penning, barrels, etc.

When I was showing ages ago, did the incredibly pampered horse deal.....so over it, but there's something to say about a ring ready horse, hooves all polished, blume in their coat, eyes and nose all oiled up. Just AWESOME!

My dad had all my trophies, ribbons and show photos from way back. My lil' brother has yet to find any of them in that huge storage room.....makes me sad!

Snowing here again. Looks like I will be late going in to work. This weather is very inconvenient. It's only suppose to be around an inch or two and stop by mid morning. There is another storm coming our way that at this moment is predicted to be Sunday, Monday into Tuesday. It could dump another foot. The temps are going to drop to below freezing. I swore I read this winter season was not suppose to drop much snow in this area. This truly stinks.

I am sorry. Are you in Canada? I thought snow was over for this week.
