Wanted to find out if anybody else has experienced this. I have been about to
Fall asleep and my body will jerk and wake me up. Yesterday when taking a nap it felt like a lightning bolt to my brain, with electrical sizzling and flashes of fireworks. I got up and Googled it. Seems this happens to other people and it's called 'exploding head syndrome'. Docters aren't sure what causes it and
it isn't serious. The name aptly describes it. Anyone here ever had this happen? This, and the jerks seem to only happen when I take an afternoon nap.

So- I have looked at all possible interpretations -- and here is my assessments:

Eliciting all the subject's perceptions concerning the inkblots, sourcing the AICPA Procedure Study. The perception of each audit area was assessed on a nine-point Likert scale. Two scale orders were used, ranging from zero to eight (or eight to zero), with a midpoint of four. Unpaired t-tests comparing these two groups over the 11 individual process variables (3 for planning, 2 for risks, 3 for controls, 1 for testing and 2 for evidence) suggested that a potential nonresponse bias did not exist. Similar to the potential nonresponse bias, the potential order effect of the Likert scales was also analyzed. Unpaired t-tests comparing the two orders (i.e., zero to eight and eight to zero) over the 12 individual process variables suggested that an order effect did not exist.


The overall pattern of experience follows a well-defined path from less experience to greater experience as a subject attains a moderate to high level of sophistication of EC experience. Subjects with the greatest amount of experience tend to have that experience concentrated in assessing the risks and controls in EC systems
Before comparing the levels of EC system experience, consolidation of the data was performed. First, subject responses for the four levels of sophistication of EC system experience were reduced to three levels by combining the moderate and high levels of EC system experience. This reduction of levels was necessary due to the limited number of subjects responding to the high level of EC system experience. Second, a factor analysis was performed on the questions within each audit area to: (1) reduce the number of variables to a manageable number within each area (i.e., four factors or less) and (2) extract variables which represent meaningful concepts to the research. Using the data for all subjects, 15 factors were extracted from the answers to the inkblot.

Based on the factor analysis, a factor variable was created by averaging the responses across the questions within that factor. These factor variables served as dependent variables in an analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine if significant differences existed among the three levels of sophistication of EC experience. Thus, sophistication level of EC system experience served as the independent variable in the analysis.

These letters from death row inmates will break your heart

"...The letter is one of many recently discovered letters from prisoners during Taiwan’s ‘White Terror’ years, a period between 1949-1987 where martial law was imposed and those who spoke out against the ruling Chinese Nationalist Party were accused of spying, imprisoned and often executed.

"One question that has had scientists buzzing in recent years is, "What is killing the bees?" Many reports have documented the mysterious decline in honeybee populations around the world, with research focusing on possible causes including parasites, a type of pesticide called neonicotinoids, and other factors. Now, research out of the University of Exeter in the UK and the University of California, Berkeley, reveals another explanation: the spread of a viral disease, inadvertently helped along by humans.

The study, published in the journal Science, found that European honeybees are the main source of Deformed Wing Virus, which has spread through bee hives around the world. The researchers determined that the spread of this insect pandemic is largely fueled by human trade and transportation of bees.

How does it spread? The Varroa mite carries the disease, feeding on bee larvae, then the virus itself kills off the bees.

The study's lead author, Dr. Lena Wilfert, of the University of Exeter's Centre for Ecology and Conservation, said they found evidence that human involvement has played a key role in the epidemic...

Petco pulls pet treats from China suspected of killing, sickening thousands

"Petco said Monday it has removed all remaining Chinese-made dog and cat treats from its website and stores nationwide because of concerns they have sickened thousands of pets and killed more than 1,000 dogs in the U.S. since 2007.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says initial tests have not connected the Chinese jerky and rawhide treats to the illnesses, but the San Diego-based company and its rival PetSmart both vowed in May to ban the snacks....

The FDA targeted the treats after receiving more than 4,800 complaints of pet illnesses, including the deaths, after pets ate chicken, duck or sweet potato jerky treats from China. Tests have not confirmed any connection, but the agency is still investigating. Meanwhile the number of cases continued to climb, with illness reported in more than 5,600 dogs, 25 cats and 3 humans as of October.

Symptoms may occur within hours or days after eating the treats, the FDA warned, and can include decreased appetite, decreased activity, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes with blood or mucus), increased water consumption and/or increased urination. In severe cases, pets may be diagnosed with pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and kidney failure..."

I stopped giving my dogs jerky chicken, etc treats that were from foreign countries years ago because of an article I read about those treats being dangerous to pets- only buy Made in USA treats now.

First lawsuit in state lottery-fixing scandal seeks millions

"DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — It was one of those dreams-come-true moments that lotteries love to promote when "Lucky Larry" Dawson smiled as he claimed a $9 million jackpot, surrounded by his kids and grandkids. Five years later, the Iowa man has become the first plaintiff in litigation that threatens to cost state lotteries millions of dollars following an insider jackpot-rigging scandal.

A Des Moines law firm filed a lawsuit Wednesday on Dawson's behalf seeking to declare that his Hot Lotto jackpot in May 2011 should have been nearly three times as big, had the previous one not been fixed. It's the first in what could be several lawsuits filed by players who claim they were ripped off playing games allegedly rigged by Eddie Tipton, former security director of the Multi-State Lottery Association.

Tipton has been convicted of rigging a $16.5 million jackpot in December 2010 by tampering with the random number generator that draws the Hot Lotto winning numbers at the association headquarters in Urbandale, Iowa, and then buying the six-number combination himself. He's awaiting trial on charges alleging that he fixed jackpots worth millions in Colorado, Wisconsin, Kansas and Oklahoma between 2005 and 2011 and worked with associates to buy tickets and claim prizes.

Dawson's lawsuit claims the 2010 jackpot should have rolled over and created a $25.5 million pool for the jackpot that he won months later. Instead, the jackpot reset to the Hot Lotto's base of $1 million before building up to the $9 million prize he claimed. The lawsuit asks a judge to declare Dawson the winner of the additional $16.5 million, which translates to $10 million in the lump sum cash option he'd take, plus interest..."

"“There is no such thing as a free lunch” has been the mantra of those cynical about the true cost of ‘free’ Windows 10. But as Microsoft increases pressure on users to upgrade, it turns out the real cost of Windows 10 lies somewhere far less expected…

Windows 7 and Windows 8. Yes, the operating systems which users already paid for (either directly, or indirectly in the cost of a new computer) are getting more expensive by the day. The cost comes in terms of lost productivity, flexibility and enjoyment as Microsoft does its best to make life for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users so unbearable they give in and upgrade to Windows 10.

Prior to February 2016 the cost was already pretty high. On the irritation side Microsoft introduced upgrade prompts for Windows 7 and Windows 8 which reinstalled themselves if users disabled them. The upgrade prompts then became pop-up windows which were continually reworded to cut down choice until ‘Upgrade now’ or ‘Upgrade tonight’ or just one option – ‘Upgrade now’ – were all that was presented.

In addition Microsoft also hit many unsuspecting Windows 7 and Windows 8 users in the pocket by silently downloading the whole of Windows 10 (4-6GB) into a secret folder on their computers, even if users had repeatedly stated they did not want to upgrade. Those who have Internet contracts with data allowances found themselves facing inexplicable bills for breaking through those allowances. Windows 8 users could stop this by setting their computers to a metered allowance (Windows 7 users were out of luck) but most didn’t know to do this in advance...." Maurice White, Earth, Wind & Fire Singer and Co-Founder, Dead at 74

"Earth, Wind and Fire vocalist and co-founder Maurice White died in his sleep in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening. A rep for the band confirmed his passing to Rolling Stone.

He was 74.

The singer had been battling Parkinson's disease since 1992, according to TMZ. His health had reportedly deteriorated in recent months. Because of the disease, he had not toured with the pioneering soul and R&B group since 1994. He nevertheless remained active on the business side of the group..."

Astronaut Edgar Mitchell, 6th man on moon, dies in Florida

"MIAMI (AP) — Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who became the sixth man on the moon when he and Alan Shepard helped NASA recover from Apollo 13's "successful failure" and later devoted his life to exploring physics, the mind, and unexplained phenomena such as psychics and aliens, has died in Florida. He was 85.

Mitchell died Thursday night at a West Palm Beach hospice after a short illness, his daughter, Kimberly Mitchell, said. Mitchell's passing coincides with the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 14 mission from Jan. 31-Feb. 9, 1971.

The world we live in is almost the polar opposite -- grandiose, mundane, loud.

A few years ago, Google released a searchable database of 5.2 million books published since 1500. Researchers soon discovered that, between 1960 and 2008, individualistic words increasingly overshadowed communal ones. The usage of “kindness” and “helpfulness” dropped by 56%, even as “modesty” and “humbleness” dropped by 52%. Our language reflects our lives. Phrases like "community" and "common good" lost in popularity to "I can do it myself" and “I come first.” We moved from We to Me.

The archetype of today’s hero is a go-getter, with a nice-guys-finish-last mindset. Our systems are designed to privilege power, where respect is calibrated by our titles and bank balances. As business cards lead our handshakes and hugs, our daily lives have morphed into a relay of commercial intentions. In a rat-race to pad our resumes, we’ve condensed our nuanced experiences into elevator pitches. We're primed to “speak up”, and to favor ambition over surrender.

The question is no longer if we can afford our humility, but rather can we really afford our own arrogance?

Without humility, our overblown sense of entitlement disconnects us. It increases narcissism and reduces empathy. That may be good for the economy but certainly not for societal well-being...

I recently met a 96 year old Sufi saint named Dada Vaswani. He has a great many followers around the world, is highly respected by monks and nuns from various traditions, and radiates a profound sense of peace. I was deeply grateful to meet him. But his first words to me were, "I'm so grateful to have met you." It wasn’t just a pleasantry, he really meant it. And it wasn't because he thought I was special -- he just knew that everyone is special. Because everyone is connected to everything, and the whole show is sacred..."

BBM Thank you. I had a good day with my son yesterday. I especially liked lunch because it gave us the opportunity to talk while we ate our lunch.

Wanted to find out if anybody else has experienced this. I have been about to
Fall asleep and my body will jerk and wake me up. Yesterday when taking a nap it felt like a lightning bolt to my brain, with electrical sizzling and flashes of fireworks. I got up and Googled it. Seems this happens to other people and it's called 'exploding head syndrome'. Docters aren't sure what causes it and
it isn't serious. The name aptly describes it. Anyone here ever had this happen? This, and the jerks seem to only happen when I take an afternoon nap.

I don't have this syndrome- it sounds terrible! :scared:

There's a new clue about what's killing honeybees around the world

"One question that has had scientists buzzing in recent years is, "What is killing the bees?" Many reports have documented the mysterious decline in honeybee populations around the world, with research focusing on possible causes including parasites, a type of pesticide called neonicotinoids, and other factors. Now, research out of the University of Exeter in the UK and the University of California, Berkeley, reveals another explanation: the spread of a viral disease, inadvertently helped along by humans.

The study, published in the journal Science, found that European honeybees are the main source of Deformed Wing Virus, which has spread through bee hives around the world. The researchers determined that the spread of this insect pandemic is largely fueled by human trade and transportation of bees.

How does it spread? The Varroa mite carries the disease, feeding on bee larvae, then the virus itself kills off the bees.

The study's lead author, Dr. Lena Wilfert, of the University of Exeter's Centre for Ecology and Conservation, said they found evidence that human involvement has played a key role in the epidemic...

Scientists are concerned about the impact these mass bee deaths could have, not just on biodiversity, but on human health and global agriculture..."

Now, my take on this is - you are actually leaving your body in spirit form, and suddenly your concious mind says "wait a second!" - you're not ready yet... Haven't you ever had a dream that "actually" happened? I have... It was really weird - this was awhile back, but remember it to this day! I was having sex with a co-worker (in the dream!! I hardly knew the guy! LOL!) - anyway the next morning he came over to me and asked if I had had a weird dream with him - I felt so embrassed - but yes - he remembered from his dream what we were doing! Strange or what??!!!!
