Furtherance ofInvestigation:
On July 9, 2015 atapproximately 6:00 p.m., detectives were contacted by Chief Jeff
Hamilton of theSouthern Illinois Airport Authority who advised he may have
informationregarding the investigation in question. In speaking with ChiefHamilton, he
stated anacquaintance of his, confided in him stating she overheardinformation
regarding a subjectnamed Curtis Wayne Wright who was in Florida at the time of the
murder and felt hemay be involved in some way. With this, Chief Hamilton participated
in a three way callwhere contact was made with this person. As the conversation
unfolded, theinformation seemed credible and consistent with information obtainedin
the investigation.Due to the potential lead and that of information obtained, Detective
Mike Downs andSergeant David Lebid flew to Illinois and met with this person who
later agreed toprovide a sworn statement. The following is a result of events that
transpired and isnot verbatim:
Statement ofCooperating Testifying Witness:
On Friday July 10,2015 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Sergeant David Lebid along with
Detective MichaelDowns of the Lee County Sheriffs Office interviewed a cooperating
testifying witness(hereafter referred to as CTW) at 911 East Casey Avenue, Mount
Vernon, Illinois.Also present was Detective Bobby Wallace (#785) of the Jefferson
County SheriffsOffice (IL) who swore in the CTW prior to the statement. Thestatement
is as follows:
The CTW stated thatduring the evening of June 27lh, 2015 she was at the residence of
her long timefriend, Kathy Moran, at 314 Twisted Oak Court, Ballwin, Missouri.During
this visit, the CTWwas present in a room with Kathy and Kathys daughter, Angela
Wright, whitefemale, bom December 31, 1972 . A conversation ensued where Angela
was visibly upset,telling her mother that her husband, Curtis Wayne Wright, white male,
bom July 21, 1968had left for an unplanned and short notice trip to Bonita Springs
Florida to fix acomputer at his friends, Mark Sievers, residence. Curtis toldAngela
sometime on FridayJune 26, 2015 that he was leaving on Saturday June 27, 2015 and
ultimately leftearly in the day on the 27th Angela stated since Curtis vehiclewas in the
shop gettingrepaired he rented an unknown vehicle from an unknown rental carcompany
at an unknownlocation in Missouri then told his wife that she could not accompanyhim
since she needed togo to work and make money.
Angela stated shewas not able to talk to him since Curtis left his cellular phone attheir
residence at 8894Chapel Hill Court in Hillsboro, Missouri. Angela could not
comprehend howCurtis left her since they are inseparable newlyweds only married two
months. She alsocould not comprehend how he left his cellular phone at theirresidence
since he never goesanywhere without it, lives on the phone, is constantly texting,
talking and usingthe internet. Angela further stated to her mother that Curtis owns a
firearm that he keptaway from her because she threatened to harm herself with Curtis
firearm. Currentrecords within Missouri revealed that Curtis Wayne Wright is a
registered felon andis unable to own a firearm.
In the daysfollowing this conversation, the CTW maintained daily contact withKathy
Moran who statedthat between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., on Monday June 29th, 2015, she
was fixing herdaughter Angelas hair at her home, located at 314 Twisted OakCourt
when Curtistelephoned Angela, stating that he had just returned home from histrip to
Florida. This wasthe first known contact that Angela had with Curtis since hisdeparture
on Saturday June 27,2015. Kathy stated on Tuesday June 30, 2015 Curtis and Angela
received notice thatTeresa Sievers had been murdered at her home in Bonita Springs and
the two departed forFlorida. Kathy and her husband, Edward Moran, have had constant
contact with theCTW.
Kathy told the CTWthat she asked her daughter Angela if Curtis was able to fix the
Sievers homecomputer during his trip. Angela became upset and argumentative withher
mother Kathy,stating she never said Curtis was going to the Sievers residence,but
instead he did workon a computer at the Sievers business (a medical office). Kathyand
her husband Ed havealso expressed grave concern that Curtis was involved in the death
of the decedentsince the Wrights are all but destitute and do not have the fundsto make
one trip to Florida,let alone two back to back trips to Florida. They have knowledge of
the Wrightsfinancial status since Angela is a waitress, Curtis is disabled andthey have
to purchasegroceries for the couple on a routine basis so they do not go withouteating.
