O/T I’m guessing you know JudgeJudi, and others, that the judgement for the OP appeal will be given at 9.45 today. Here’s hoping........

Chetty turns to TP's argument in mitigation. He had wanted a pre-sentence report. This contained CP's personal circumstances.

It was still open to CP to testify in his own mitigation but he chose not to

The money provided by CP enticed his co-accused to have Jayde killed. This was blood money

CP's conduct after Jayde's murder attests to his disingenuousness & ability to fool his family

Chetty says he has no doubt the sight of Jayde's body reduced her dad & father in law to tears. But if CP cried, it was crocodile tears

CP went on to deliver eulogy @ Jayde's funeral. Unbeknown to public, he had pd for her murder. He wanted public to see him as doting father

Correction: doting husband

Google: Facebook Algoa FM News Panayiotou to watch live.

Streaming has stopped for me but may work for you.

CP in his plea explanation had claimed he would not have taken his uncle with him to meet Siyoni had he orchestrated her murder

CP has taken no responsibility for his actions. Despite evidence, remained defiant

Defence already indicated they would apply for leave to appeal. This shows his defiance

[You're a gem Judge Chetty]

Chetty says he accepts CP is from a close knit family & that this trial has drained them emotionally. But Jayde's family have suffered too

CP's co-accused carried out the hit for the love of money. If Nemembe merely stood aside at scene of murder, he could have said so

Nemembe has a dual personality. Fourth year in IT but no stranger to crime. Has a previous conviction

Sibeko's situation is somewhat different. Evidence directly linked him to events of crime & nothing to indicate withdrew from conspiracy

If he did withdraw, he should have said so but chose to remain silent

You can now see why the court can draw adverse inferences if an accused chooses not to testify.

Jayde's family cheering and clapping in court.
No emotion from Chris.

So after this mammoth trial folks I guess this is a wrap

Love you Judge Chetty :blowkiss:
I think we should celebrate a great result. :toastred:

Eighteen years (guessing they are paroled in nine) for murder? That's obscene. Why is the U.S. the only Western country that actually punishes murderers?

Eligible for parole after 9, but not necessarily granted.

As far as I'm aware he was reading the sentencing judgment.

So pleased to see a guilty verdict.

Woo did you all see sentence increase for OP?

Please ignore my post #993 above. I don't know why the original poster thought the sentence for murder was 18 years. Vanilla murder carries a sentence of 15 years, and aggravated/premeditated murder 25 years.

I've had a long a trying day so please forgive my error.

BREAKING: Pistorius sentenced to 15 years less time served =
13 years 5 months more to serve

Justice for Reeva ... at last
More celebrations: :toastred:
