That is tantamount to saying it wasn't fair that you only found this out by using (allegedly) unlawful means. Despicable that he still can't show appropriate remorse and his family continues not to acknowledge his thoroughly evil deed and nature.

Big shout out to advocate Marius Stander. very well prosecuted, against the most abhorrent of defence advocates.

In a letter on the Facebook page, Justice for Jayde Inggs, Jayde’s sister Toni, who is getting married on Saturday, said the time had finally come to close the most emotionally draining chapter of their lives.

Inggs said it had been hard to truly grieve losing Jayde.

"Please understand that this is now our time to mourn, our time to reminisce on the joyful times and to begin to find a way to move forward with our lives," she wrote.

"For nearly three years, my private family has had no choice, but to share all our pictures and memories with everyone while we weren't even capable of revisiting those memories ourselves.

"I say this in the nicest way possible with my heart on my sleeve, I am asking the amazing, supportive people of the public and media to please respect our privacy as we attempt to put our lives back together," she wrote.

Inggs said the family is forever grateful and blown away by the support they had received from strangers.

"In a time where all we knew was a bad world, bad people and bad thoughts, you proved to us that there is still a lot of good in the world. You kept us grounded. Thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts for giving us the courage and strength to tackle each day."

Panayiotou will appeal

Panayiotou’s defence indicated that they will seek leave to appeal the murder conviction.
The application is set down for December 13.

The court papers filed on behalf of Panayiotou, who is serving out his sentence at St Albans prison, claim that Chetty erred several times in considering the evidence brought before the court.

...the evidence of police officer Captain Kanna Swanepoel was mainly hearsay. He also disputes aspects of Siyoni’s statements made to police after he was arrested.

... evidence in Siyoni’s statement as a Section 204 witness should be inadmissible

Chetty had failed to consider certain aspects of the testimony given by at least 11 defence witnesses.

Price obviously doesn't even have the scruples to tell him the case is hopeless. I'd love to know if Chetty granted permission for the appeal. It wasn't even tweeted about, I had to dig to find those reports in the Herald.

Thanks for these posts Tortoise. The family saw the video and heard what he said. No-one was holding a gun to his head. Deluded hardly describes it.

He's got two chances of succeeding with an appeal - nil and Buckley's. Facts are things that really do matter with an appeal, and no court would acquit someone after seeing and hearing that tape.

"[103] Before I conclude this judgment it behoves me to commend the investigating team for their meticulous efforts in unmasking Jayde’s murderers. The criticism directed at them and the prosecutor is unfounded".

A comment on Chetty:

“His no-nonsense attitude and on-point judgments have kept the legal fraternity on their toes for almost two decades as his rulings have survived appeal after appeal".

Not only is Price utterly disgusting, but so too are CP's parents. As it was a very long and complex trial, the appeal will cost a huge amount of money and I for one will be more than happy to see the family throw their money away.

Do you remember during the OP trial several lawyers discussed whether he would appeal if found guilty. One said:

"In fact the irony exists that the more confident a trial judge is with their decision the more confident they are in referring a matter to appeal. It’s usually the weak judges who in an attempt to avoid some kind of embarrassment will refuse it".

I agree with everything you said JJ.

That's not just one family member there saying those things, it's 4 of them in agreement. I was most shocked to hear his sister during sentencing asking the court not to be harsh with CP because he was a kind person, and had carried his school friends bags once. The blinking cheek of it, I'm glad Jayde's family didn't turn up that day and give them their time. I'm not suggesting they bear responsibility for CP's actions, but I am expecting them to not be disrespectful to Jayde's family, and face up to the truth. That is just plain ignorance and conceit.

I read quite an interesting article a week or so ago about parents who deny their child's guilt. I'm so annoyed I didn't save it but the general gist of it was that it had something to do with the parents' narcissism. I'll keep looking for it.

An appeal, if granted, will just prolong the agony for Jayde's family. They deserve peace now after this very long trial.

"Swanepoel said Panayiotou’s father discovered the affair around October last year and, having loved Jayde as his own daughter, told Panayiotou that if the relationship continued he would be disinherited".

“In almost every society and culture, parents view their children as, in some respects, a reflection of themselves. They’re a biological reflection, since parents pass on some of their genetic qualities to their kids. They’re also a social and moral reflection. Children can make their parents proud or they can bring shame upon their family. Some parents, however, carry the fact that a child reflects back upon their image to extremes. On the one hand, some parents have so much narcissistic investment in their children that even when those children are convicted of the most horrific crimes – such as killing their spouses – they still defend them.
