Botha moves onto the Kleine Zalze gate report, specifying vehicles (of access card holders) which made its way through the gates the night before and the morning of the murders. Visitors are logged separately.

Two visitor vehicles entered this way, according to the records.

now looking at CCTV footage of klein de zalze gate.Footage shows the 1 recorded visitor entering&leaving estate through gate.
now we move to 03:17am on the day of the murders.A white car pulls up to boom but nothing is recorded in reports.
a tour bus arrives at boom later. nothing was recorded on that either. Please note that we are not sure if these vehicles entered.
CCTV: 04:29 now shows a dark car entering Klein de zalze estate. This car was not stopped, was let through. No record thereof.
Rossouw says this should not happen. CCTV shows minibuses & tourbus leaving klein de zalze estate after entering earlier.
these buses were not recorded entering or leaving in the security report. at 05:25am shows a delivery van pull up and enter Klein de zalze gate but this was not recorded in security report either.

a brief break has been called to proceedings.

@CapeTownEtc #vanbreda Rossouw can't explain why this bus hasn't been recorded in her report

Okay, now Botha is making headway, vehicles passing through gate and the guard hasn't recorded it. I wonder if they can identify the driver and passengers, the police should have checked these.

4:50 - the blacklights of a car is seen. Unclear if the vehicle had been in the estate or not. Rossouw points out that the entrance tapes were requested, not information regarding vehicles leaving.

One restaurant employee left at 00:30 and returned 4:48. A person who worked at the lodges entered at 3:35 to collect a tour group.

Statement from gate security guard said it was a quiet night and from 23:00 after restaurant closed, no other vehicles entering or exited.

This is clearly incorrect, Botha says.

The CCTV footage shows at least 5 vehicles (bus, 2 minibuses, passenger vehicle, delivery van)enter Klein De Zalze gate. None of these.. were recorded in security log. Only 2vehicles were recorded to enter estate under visitors access the night of murders.
Rossouw admits that gate security records were not filled out appropriately on night of murders after seeing CCTV.

Botha bites back saying how can Rossouw be sure the patrols were done correctly when security gate reports were not done properly.

back to CCTV footage. We are watching main gate footage. Police van is seen speeding to road left of gate on morning after murders.

The logs were clearly inaccurate that night BUT

One restaurant employee left at 00:30 and returned 4:48.
That rules this person out.

A person who worked at the lodges entered at 3:35 to collect a tour group.
Did this person really collect a tour group or was it between 1 and 3 intruders?

5:25 - a bakkie with a canopy enters. No record of it.
If this person was the intruder, he hung around for a very long time after the murders.

The defence aren't really winning any points. All they've established so far is that the record-keeping wasn't good.

CCTV footage:Now we jump to 7:40am. Police van now pulls up to contractors gate. Security personel jumps into van&enter estate.
CCTV: now we see same police van further inside estate driving towards van Breda family home.
Botha is using this footage to show that it was not a problem for sergeant Kleynhans to enter estate.Kleynhans testified....it was difficult to enter estate as security did not allow him in at gate. But footage shows he had no problems getting in..

Now,thermal cameras show bridge behind electric fence. Remember Rossouw said they checked all footage&found nothing suspicious. Thermal camera shows guard walking along bridge. He has to walk this path to do the bloodhound check.

Tracey Stewart‏ @Traceyams 8m8 minutes ago

Judge Desai says that Kleynhans was referring to the fact that they had to sign in @CapeTownEtc #vanbreda

Rossouw says in emergencies we would waive the requirement to sign in - Botha says clear police didn't sign in

Judge adjourns court for tea. See you in 15 mins for more CCTV footage from night of murders. @TimesLIVE

Nothing to be concerned about so far?

Nothing to be concerned about so far?

It's a bit worrisome. The patrol staff have been caught out with inconsistencies. Botha played it like a true lawyer, kept badgering them to repeat their routine, and then goes in for the kill with CCTV footage to prove they've been deceptive.

We can gauge how the rest of the trial will go according to Botha's style. Lets hope the police have done good work with the crime scene and forensics have been sticking with protocol.

Thanks for that image Tortoise. Until then we had 2 pics where he used his left hand, 3 using his right and the plea video where he turned pages with his left. Until your pic we were all still guessing.

Anthony Molyneaux‏ @AJGMolyneaux 6m6 minutes ago

Welcome back to the case. Thermal camera footage being shown by defence. Rossouw on stand.
we are looking at Wyngaard (security supervisor on night of murders) do his bloodhound check on bridge.
defence showing thermal footage at 01:26am of bridge. Wyngaard reported he did a bloodhound check at this time.
thermal footage shows no sign of Wyngaard at 01:26am.
Rossouw says you wont be able to see him on footage as he only needs to be close to area to register bloodhound check.
defence now showing footage of perimeter of de zalze estate. The area surrounded by farm land.

Rossouw starting to look extremely fed up with these questions, eye rolling and all ;-) Botha unperturbed persisting.
