I think the defence want the shower dna evidence completely obliterated, HvB did not shower or wash away blood.

Prime, I'm not sure how to post because you've been doing Aarti but she's now posting on News24 as well as doing her own tweets. Nick van der Leek has also been putting tweets on News 24. Tammy must be AWOL and they're filling in for her. I'll stop if you're going to continue with Aarti but not all her tweets are here, only those from News24.

Henri's genotype identified as 1718. Important in terms of mixing with family members and/or exclusion.

when do we get to a Mystery DNA sample?

Qualitative=which alleles are present. Quantative gives numerical value. I'd imagine qualitative refers to accuracy of profiles too

Difficulty excluding Henri is that his DNA very similar to his brother Rudi.

"One cannot tell if there are 2 or 3 individuals in the given sample in terms of qualitative data."

Expert refers to 9 pages of samples: nail scrapings, another from the shower another from #vanbreda shorts. Will now drill down into detail.

Expert checks herself. She's made a mistake. Three members of gallery slip out. Judge takes a sip of water.

Mistake is respun as a "typo" by #vanbreda counsel. Alrighty then.

Expert now refers to male symbol of her photocopy. She agrees. It comes from shower corner. Male component only.

Expert says she agrees with another assessment by the state on DNA.

"You cannot proceed if you don't have 1 nanogram..." Wow is this actually going to go somewhere today?

0.023 Nanograms refers to orange/questionable blocks. Range qualitatively questionable. #vanbreda Expert reverts to protocol.

Olckers found DNA sample in corner of shower's male/female ratio is 1-0.080-so male only. Otto found Teresa, Henri and Rudi #VanBreda's DNA

Olckers: says Otto only focused on Qualitative aspects, discounting certain alleles

Olckers: the Alternative is that this could be the DNA of Rudi and Henri only

Olckers:if you take ratio of male vs female DNA, it's more probable that it was only male DNA, i.e. Rudi and Henri

Olckers: the male to female ratio in this case is 1 to virtually 0

Olckers: again ratio to shower floor,male to female ratio, 1 to -0,86, meaning male DNA found here

Olckers: to me it is evident that the manufacturer of the DNA kit says you must access quality of DNA to move on in process

Henri #vanbreda is following proceedings closely, asks Botha to correct a mistake that expert made in reading number from report

Olckers: from Data an interpretation is made, leads to conclusions, all preceding steps must be valid, for valid results

Sample AAA13 peaks zoomed in and under discussion. Could be a stutter peak. "There is a foreign allele present."

[Apart from Nick, Tammy Petersen, Tracey Stewart and Aarti Narsee are averaging one tweet every 30 minutes or so. Most pathetic court reporting I've seen in this trial. The lights are on and no-one's home]
 
Exhibit AAA12 there also appears to be a foreign peak. Not present in #vanbreda family. Foreign peaks seem to be used to suggest foreign DNA

Judge asks how much longer. #vanbreda counsel says we can't finish today. Judge says we can sit longer if you wish.

Expert: foreign peaks found in 3 DNA mixtures.

All data should be mentioned especially if it can affect the conclusion, as per common practice, Olckers says.

Olckers listed 32 samples where Hemastix expiration date was not indicated. It cannot be used after it has expired.

Dr Olckers: WO Nel didn't take photos of results or its location on exhibit, therefore results can't be independently verified.

Expert says she's committed elsewhere. Now a bombshell. Defense counsel says we may need to withdraw. Running out of funds.

Counsel don't like idea of state crossing the expert for 2 days. Some negotiation here. Defense say they're staring down barrel.

[Really???? But it's okay for them to spend days XX the State's witnesses. Not to mention all the days and days that have been wasted by him. Right. Just outrageous]

ALL the time wasted in this trial has been due to Botha. They still have a blood spatter expert and the neurosurgeon to testify. Obviously they can add little if anything and that's why he wants to bring this trial to an end.

Botha would be the person asking questions of the blood spatter expert. When Oscar was running out of funds, Oldwadge dropped out. Combrink should do the same.

Wow, :jawdrop: - is this for real? What are they suggesting, they're going to have to leave Henri high and dry due to lack of funds? No, it's just a stunt, isn't it? Botha actually trying to manipulate the judge, just like a kid trying to manipulate a parent. This guy is just ... unbelievable.

Typical Botha. He seems very manipulative, very dishonest and very underhand. He has put so many obstacles in the way of this trial running smoothly. Time for Desai to tear him off a strip, methinks. I am sure everyone in SA knows what to expect from B. He does it in all his trials. He goes far beyond giving somebody a good Defence. This is more to do with his ego. I really hope he loses this trial. If not, we are going to see a lot more of the Desai "tricks" in future trials.

Yeah!! Botha is so incredibly dishonest and manipulative, and if we can see that loud and clear then there's no doubt Judge Desai is seeing exactly the same thing. I have a lot of faith in this judge. He strikes me as being totally on top of the drama being enacted in his courtroom. I think he's letting Botha get away with everything he's legally entitled to, because he really has no other choice ... but: I think he's seeing Botha's act with very clear eyes, and when it's finally all played out, he will deliver justice.

I agree Desai is aware. Thank goodness Masipa was not given the job. I am more concerned that Botha will pull out and we will have to have another trial. I am unsure what happens if this were to be the case but I know one of our very knowledgeable forum members will know.

B. must have made a bomb from HvB. I have an overriding concern that HvB has had access to his parents money. I think the house in SA was sold before the Henri was charged and I fully expect to hear he has already inherited that money and any cash/savings his parents had. He had two years to sort out the will and I feel sure he would have been keen to do just that. I don't think the Oz house was sold during that time so I am hoping that will go to Marli (assuming HvB gets his comeuppance).
