Wow. A lot of the articles about Amy seem more intent on scandalizing her name than on spreading the word about her disappearance.

Also, I understand that everyone grieves differently , but I find it concerning that her own mother has essentially given up the search for her daughter.

7 years on and the search for Amy is still ongoing. In a post on the Facebook page used by her father, Christopher Fitzpatrick, Amy’s dad appealed for information.

“I am appealing to anyone that knows what happened to my daughter to get in touch. We now know someone has information that could help us solve Amy’s case
“It’s never to late please don’t be afraid to contact us.”

In September a 'Garden of Hope' was planted near Amy's school in La Cala de Mijas, Spain, with one of the trees dedicated to Amy:

But the couple were critical of Irish authorities in Spain, claiming they would not send someone to represent them at the opening ceremony.

“The mayor had asked for a member of the Irish government and embassy to represent us and they said flatly – no,” Ms Fitzpatrick alleged.

“You’d nearly be embarrassed to be Irish,” said Mr Mahon.

The mother of missing Dublin teenager Amy Fitzpatrick wants a new search to be launched in Spain.

Audrey Mahon said yesterday she will ask a judge in Spain next month to order a new, intensive search of the area where the 15-year-old girl disappeared on New Year's Day, 2008.

Mother keeps vigil in Mijas on Missing Person’s Day

Matthew Elliott Costa del Sol 10 March 2016

The mother of missing Irish girl Amy Fitzpatrick returned to La Cala de Mijas to honour National Missing Person’s Day, commemorated in Spain each year on March 9.

Audrey Fitzpatrick was personally invited to the Garden of Hope in La Cala by Mayor Juan Carlos Maldonado.

The barrister presented letters from Mahon's consultant surgeon and his G.P. to the court. The G.P.'s letter said the failure of the existing replacement was causing Mr Mahon "severe pain", the court was told.

Mr Justice McCarthy said that he could not adjourn the trial on the basis of letters from the surgeon and G.P.

"I'm not prepared to adjourn on the basis of a report," the judge said.

He told Mr Guerin that he needed a sworn affidavit from Mahon's surgeon, highlighting the "urgency" of the operation and that it cannot be postponed, before he could consider adjourning the trial.

http://www.independent.ie/irish-new...ue-to-hip-replacement-operation-34646940.html

The article goes on to say that the case is listed again for tomorrow to see whether an affidavit from the surgeon is presented.

This trial was supposed to start this month, it's already nearly 3 years since DF was killed.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but I have no doubt this trial would have taken place a long time ago if DM was remanded in custody.

It looks like this trial has started, not sure about the anticipated defence strategy (BBM):

The prosecution council told the court that Mr Mahon will claim that it was accident and that Dean Fitzpatrick was suicidal and walked into the knife in his hand.

He said this would be peculiar, as if it were “suicide by stepfather”.

Mr Farrell added: “He (Mr Mahon) suggested it’d been an accident, that he had taken the knife off Dean Fitzpatrick and that Mr Fitzpatrick had walked onto it, impaling himself.

“At one point he muses that Dean Fitzpatrick was suicidal.”

The Old Bailey was told that Mr Mahon was drunk and angry when he allegedly stabbed his stepson in the stomach and fled the scene.

Remy Farrell SC opened the case for the prosecution, explaining that David Mahon was the partner, now husband of the deceased man’s mother, Audrey Fitzpatrick.

He said that she also had a daughter, Amy Fitzpatrick, from a previous relationship. Mr Mahon, Ms Fitzpatrick and the two children moved to Spain in 2004, where the family had business interests.

“Tragically, Amy Fitzpatrick went missing in 2008,” said Mr Farrell, explaining that she had never been found. “Shortly afterwards, Dean, who had turned 18, returned to Ireland.”

I think these must be from today's court proceedings.

Dave Mahon threatened to stick knife in stepson's girlfriend's throat on night he died, court hears [...]

[...]Ms O’Rourke said she texted Dean and told him Mr Mahon had threatened her and had been very aggressive, and told him he better go up and see what he wanted and sort it out.

She said: "I basically told Dean what happened. I told him he'd threatened to come out to us and threatened to stick a knife into my neck."

David Mahon’s trial has heard there were photos of his missing stepdaughter on the floor of his apartment on the night he allegedly murdered her brother [...]

[...] The jurors were sent out early after Audrey Fitzpatrick stormed out of the courtroom during the evidence of one of the State’s key witnesses.

Her husband’s friend Karl O’Toole said he called over to Dave’s apartment at Northern Cross in Malahide, north Dublin on the night of May 25th 2013 after he told him he’d broken up with Audrey.

He said his friend was drunk and seemed agitated.

Inside the apartment, he noticed pictures of Dave’s stepdaughter Amy and his mother. Amy hasn’t been seen since she went missing in Spain in 2008 – four years after they moved over there.

He thought that was strange.

The second article also says it's the state's case that the argument was over DF stealing a water bottle from DM's bicycle.

Summary of DM's friend's testimony from yesterday:

Mr O'Toole said the accused was drunk.

He said Mr Mahon accused Dean of robbing a part of his bike and while he initially denied it, he later admitted he'd done it to annoy Mr Mahon.

Mr O'Toole said both men were agitated, but Dean said he'd return the part the following day and he got up and left.

He said Mr Mahon told him: "I'll be back in a minute" and went out on to the landing.

He said Mr Mahon wasn't gone for long, maybe one minute, and when he came back he was holding a knife.

Mr O'Toole said he got "such a fright".

He said the knife was "a large knife, a long knife".

He said Mr Mahon said to him: "You've to get me out of here. I have to go."

Mr Mahon was very agitated, so he grabbed his car keys and they left the apartment.

Mr O'Toole said they got into his taxi and he was "just driving".

He said Mr Mahon was not making any sense, and he was trying to talk to him to find out what had happened.

He said he drove on the back roads towards Swords, and recalled Mr Mahon asking him to stay off the motorways due to CCTV.

As they were coming off the M1 at Balbriggan, Mr O'Toole said Mr Mahon told him he thinks "Dean is dead" and "the knife went through him".

He said he advised Mr Mahon to go to the gardai but "Dave was not really making any sense at all".

The court heard the pair then drove back to Dublin to Mr Mahon's father's house, arriving at 3am or 4am. Mr O'Toole said Mr Mahon told his father that "Dean came at him with a knife and he ended up being stabbed".

Asked by Remy Farrell SC if Mr Mahon had said he'd stabbed him, Mr O'Toole replied "yeah".

Mr O'Toole said Mr Mahon also told his father that Dean had been sending him threatening text messages for the previous three or four days.

Medical evidence from the Deputy State Pathologist leaves open the possibility that DF 'ran onto' the knife:

Dr Curtis said it would have required moderate or considerable force to inflict the injury on Dean Fitzpatrick.

He said his examination could not determine whether the injury had been inflicted with a deliberate thrust of a knife or whether Mr Fitzpatrick could have "run on" to a knife being held by Mr Mahon.

He said the nature of the wound to Mr Fitzpatrick meant either scenario was possible.

The wound was horizontal and tracked just slightly upwards.

The court heard a number of tranquilising drugs, known as "benzos", were found in Mr Fitzpatrick's system, some in trace amounts.

He also had scars on his forearm, indicating an episode of self-harm in the distant past. He had a black eye which was healing.

Under cross-examination by lawyers for Mr Mahon, Dr Curtis agreed there was no evidence of a second stab wound or that there was any twisting of the knife.

He said the depth of the wound could have been as little as 12.5cm and if a knife longer than that was used, it would mean the knife was not pushed in all the way.

He agreed this injury could cause massive internal bleeding with very little significant external bleeding.

Dr Curtis agreed with Defence Counsel Sean Guerin that it was "possible" that the injury was caused by Mr Fitzpatrick running onto the knife.

But he said it was also possibly the result of a deliberate thrust.

Evidence from the father of Dean and Amy Fitzpatrick:

Dean's father Christopher Fitzpatrick told the Central Criminal Court this morning that he received a call from gardai to go Beaumont Hospital in the early hours of May 26 because his son had been injured.

Mr Fitzpatrick said he arrived with his sister and her husband, and they were taken into the family room.

In cross examination, Mr Fitzpatrick said Dean had been living with him in the last week of his life.

Mr Fitzpatrick told the court that his son had "stuff going on about his girlfriend, his missing sister and not being able to see his son".

http://www.independent.ie/irish-new...dead-the-knife-went-through-him-34664854.html

Evidence of DM's first police interview:

In the interview, he told gardaí that Mr Fitzpatrick had called up to his apartment, and the pair were arguing.

"We were always having rows. God forgive me but he's a little b*****d," Mr Mahon said, adding: "But it's my fault he's dead."

During the interview, Mr Mahon said Mr Fitzpatrick pulled a knife and waved it at him in the kitchen, but he took it off him and put it in his back pocket.

He said his friend Mr McCormack took Dean out of his apartment into the hallway, and he followed them.

Mr Mahon told gardaí he pulled the knife from his pocket and he said to Dean "What are you doing, pulling a knife on your father?"

He said that Mr Fitzpatrick responded with "What do you mean, you *advertiser censored**ing eejit?" and walked into the knife.

The accused told gardaí he thought it was only a graze and he did not see any blood.

He said Mr Fitzpatrick ran down the stairs, and that was the last he saw of him.

He told gardaí: "I didn't stab him, he walked into the knife" and "It's my fault he's dead".

Mr Mahon said he then remembers being in the taxi with his friend Karl O'Toole and throwing the knife out the window.

Mr Mahon said he had previously told his wife Audrey he didn't want Dean around as he was "bad news", and he "smokes and sells drugs".

A bit more on DM's police interview(s):

He said all he was thinking about was his partner Audrey, Dean and Amy’s mother.

“I thought that when Amy went missing it was the worst thing in the world, now this, I don’t know how I will face Audrey.” He told Gardaí at Coolock station.

He said he didn’t want to go to prison, that he wasn’t built for prison.

He said he and Audrey had been together 12 years, that they had moved to Spain and had a “great life” and good money. He said they had eight or nine houses in Spain and bars, that they were millionaires but had spent all the money looking for Amy after her disappearance in 2008.

The accused described Amy as an angel but said Dean was “no angel”.

http://utv.ie/News/2016/04/28/I-knew-I-had-nicked-him---murder-accused-58156

He said Mr Fitzpatrick walked into the knife, and he knew he nicked him, but Dean ran off and he "didn't think it was that serious".

Mr Mahon added: "I can't believe he's dead. This will kill Audrey. She took an overdose before".

He also told gardai he was "not a violent man" and that Mr Fitzpatrick "walked into the knife", saying "I'm starting to doubt myself, did I push him".

He also told gardai: "He's a little b*****d but I wish it were me dead".

He said that "part of him thinks he wanted it", adding that Dean "walked into the knife".

The accused said Mr Fitzpatrick had self-harmed in Spain, and "he seemed to enjoy it".

Mr Mahon said he "never thought he'd killed him" and if he'd realised how serious it was he would have called an ambulance.

http://www.independent.ie/irish-new...cused-stepdads-garda-interviews-34668017.html

He told Detective Garda Brendan Mears that Mr Fitzpatrick walked into the knife, said "Ah" and went down the stairs.

Mr Mahon said there was only a little bit of blood on the knife so he thought he had only nicked Mr Fitzpatrick.

He said "I have nothing to hide ... it's my fault ... he was 23 years old ... what will Audrey say?"

The poor girl lived with a drunk she hated who killed her brother, a man brought into her life and kept there by her mother. I think in the US this case would be resolved by now. JMO.

BBM.

I just can't comprehend her. I have absolutely no idea what mental gymnastics she must be doing to justify staying with this man, even after DF's death/murder.

Poor Amy and Dean.

I think this is the last of it from today:

“We’re going out 12 years. We moved to Spain. You know Amy (Audrey’s daughter) went missing... I think there’s something wrong with her husband,” he said. “God forgive me but I think he (the deceased) has the same genes as his father.”[...]

[...]“I’m sitting in my cell and thinking: Did he want to walk into the knife?” he said at one stage. “Is it an accident or murder? I don’t know, but it’s my fault,” he said.

“This is going to kill her (Audrey Fitzpatrick), the stress. How much can anybody take?” he asked. “Will I spend the rest of my life in prison?”

Mr Mahon said Mr Fitzpatrick had sent him a text message saying: ‘What’s this? You’re going to stab me?’

“I know it doesn’t look good for me, but it is what it is,” he said. “Part of me thinks he wanted it, but I don’t know,” he said later.

WIFE, loyal supporter, companion and friend.

Audrey Mahon has been standing by her man's side all week as he stands accused of the murder of her son, silently and quietly offering her support to him.

Walking into the Criminal Courts of Justice, the couple have frequently been photographed linking arms or holding hands - a sign of Audrey's quiet support of her husband, who she married just last year.

The couple are obviously close.

[...]At one point during the garda interviews, Mr Mahon was asked if he had another girlfriend, in addition to Audrey.

His shocked response: "no, for ****** sake, Audrey would kill me".

Defence:

"If Mr Mahon had not taken the knife out of his pocket Dean Fitzpatrick wouldn't be dead, and he has admitted that", Mr Guerin said.

"Mr Mahon has admitted that taking the knife out was a very, very stupid thing to do and had tragic consequences", he added, saying "he and Audrey will have to live with the knowledge of knowing that he was at fault."

However, the question for the jury is not whether Mr Mahon is at fault, said Mr Guerin.

The jury must decide "does Mr Mahon bear criminal responsibility for Mr Fitzpatrick's death", and the onus is on the prosecution to prove this beyond a reasonable doubt.

Mr Guerin said that taking the knife out by Mr Mahon could never be fatal and it is the defence case that it was the "deliberate movement of Dean Fitzpatrick that caused the force and not a stabbing motion by Mr Mahon".

Mr Guerin said the knife could have penetrated Mr Fitzpatrick to a depth of 14.5cm but the pathologist said it may have been as little as 12.5cm.

He said that when there's multi interpretations of the evidence then the more favourable must be given to the defendant.
