Stars of TLCs Sister Wives Under Investigation

Now, ohiogirl, that made sense. After giving it some thought, I can see how that would be a concern. I do feel that there is a bit of emotional immaturity in the women that can accept an arrangement like this (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just the way I see it), and I can see how they may not try as hard to reach outside their home for socialization or help if they have the other wives there with them.

And yes, I can see how keeping them closed off like that could potentially lead to abuse.

First, I LOVE Big Love. It is both mine and my husband's favorite show since it started. I have told him I will go for him adding another wife, under the following conditions -
1) I am the First/Main/Boss Wife. Always
2) I make the rules. Always
3) He buys the house next door (quite like ours) and fixes both houses up. Fixes everything that needs fixing here, before 2nd wife comes on the scene.
4) I get a veto over who it is.
5) 2nd wife must be like Nikki from Big Love, she must be very handy with tools and able to fix anything that goes wrong in either of our houses. And she is a clean freak who likes to clean.

<Sigh> I'm not holding my breath that we will get a 2nd wife in our family.

But, having said this (and I am (sort of) joking) we have good friends who have been in a polyamouras marriage for over 10 years now. One wife, and first (legal) husband married 2nd husband in a religious ceremony. 2 kids with first hubby, 1 with 2nd. They soooo work. They are just wonderful people, have great kiddos and I greatly admire and love them all!

But the family on Sister Wives really creeps me out.

Well I would think filming the marriage to number 4 would just about seal the deal. At least you would think.

Agreed. But it sounds like cameras were only allowed to film the reception..the wedding ceremony was not on film.

Okay, I will admit it...I watched the show on Sunday. I found it very interesting that when asked by Mari (Not sure about the spelling of the name, but she is the first wife.) how he would feel if she had a boyfriend or lover, Kody responded by saying it would be vulgar and he wouldn't like it.

*cackling*

Sorry but, polygamist, polyamorous, whatever you want to call it, this just makes Kody more of a typical man in my book.

Men all want to fantasize about how it would be to juggle multiple women, and add to that the allure of the females knowing and authorizing one anothers existence, but make them wear those shoes - and whoaaaa Nelly! That is awful, horrible, vulgar and sleazy.

Sorry, Don't mean to make light of it. Or maybe I do, lol.

I just recently watched the 19th wife and read portions of the book. It's a sad state of affairs when TLC feels the need to air "dirty laundry" to us as a form of entertainment. There are few benefits to plural marriages (IMHO), and the lifestyle (once in) is pretty hard to get out of.

This lot should be investigated, but since he only has 1 real wife and the other 3 are so-called girlfriends (in the legal sense of the word), I don't know how charges could stick. Many men have 1 wife, and dozens of girlfriends - they just don't all live under the same roof.

In any case, I don't like it a bit.

Well now that's bloddy typical!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he has only 1 wife. He's not legally married to the other 3. They had a ceremony and all, but no official marriage certificate.

The clan claims that only Kody's marriage to Meri is the only one legal, with the others just held in spiritual ceremonies

Doesn't mean a hill of beans to me -- just shows how little respect he has for his legal wife.

Well lets put it this way while he claims to be married to all four, he is lawfully only married to one.

Brown is legally married to only his first wife, Mary (the other marriages are recognized by the church). But, the laws in his area state that charges can be brought if a person lives as a spouse with another person while being married to someone else.

Could this be why he moved Robin down the street? IMHO it sounds like a brothel and Kody is the only client ;)

Regardless of how I feel personally about polygamy....this is no different from any man having one (or more) mistresses and children, o having more than one family, except this guy has them all under one roof and they are all aware of "the other woman". And they are making $$ off this by participating in a TV show and sensationalizing it.

I feel sorry for wife #1 even if she did know what she was "getting into" when she married him. I find it VULGAR that he thinks Mari having another man would be vulgar.

He would be in for a world of hurt if all this backfired on him and the women all left him and then they all filed for child support. LOL

A brothel or a harem.

I got the impression Robin was moved down the street because they wanted to ease her into the home, the home wasn't really set up for 4 wives and they were rearranging it, and I wonder where does Kody keep his clothes? Which wife's bedroom? Does Kody have a separate bedroom of his own in the house?

The law he is breaking is adultery. It's not just a religious law...

http://www.icsworld.com/papers_and_press/infidelity_and_adultery_laws_and_court_decisions.aspx

I'm also curious if he might not be vulnerable tax wise.

If they want to nail him, it doesn't have to be for polygamy. mo

Actually the law he is breaking is a statute in Utah.

Here is the marriage law for Utah: You have to be divorced before you get remarried.

http://le.utah.gov/~code/TITLE30/htm/30_01_000200.htm

If he wants multiple wives he can move to the middle east where it is highly excepted. JMO

The difference is one is a legal matter and one is a moral matter. To have a mistress is morally wrong , but to have more than one wife is criminally wrong. One you can go to jail and be fined the other is you are a low life.

I watched them on Oprah and saw the "vulgar" clip from the show. That really chaffed me, but if the women are willing to put up with it, then their misery is of their own making.

On Oprah the first 3 "wives" noted that they came from polygamist families, where as wife #4 seemed to approach the polygamy lifestyle like it was a novelty that she just wanted to try out. It would not surprise me if she doesn't last long in the relationship.

I haven't watched this show, nor do I intend to. After seeing the first advert for it, I won't even watch the commercials.

IMO this man has no respect for women, just teen-aged lust for something "new". I further see the women as having no respect for themselves or each other.

I do realize this mindset is something they have been brought up in, however, many years ago I read about Ann Eliza and many other female victims of polygamy:

"Young, Ann Eliza Webb. Wife No. 19; Or, the Story of a Life of Bondage, Being a Complete Exposé of Mormonism, and Revealing the Sorrows, Sacrifices, and Sufferings of Women in Polygamy, (Hartford, Connecticut: Dustin, Gilman, 1875),"

and this colored my thinking for good and all. Here's an excellent bunch of information from Wiki on the subject:

I really dislike the fact TLC has the gall to rub this hurtful garbage in our faces.

My opinion only
