I find this absolutely wrong, but.......the joke will be on him someday.
First, what in the world would they have in common?
Music? Dancing? Friends? I say it will get old in a few months.
He will wake up and regret his choice.
It's fun and games..........
She will wake up and think what am I doing with this old guy?
I think his wife and kids are lucky to get this dude out of their lives.
He's in his 2nd childhood. JMOO

It's sad that this is really going to put a huge strain on his kids lives.

This guy is Stupid with a capital S. At best he's losing his family and this relationship will end with her leaving his old *advertiser censored*. At worst, he's going to be put under a microscope and if any illegality is found in his past with this girl, he goes to jail. Dumbass. I feel sorry for his family. They have to live with this humiliation.

Seriously dude look at yourself. Unless you are a millionaire, there is nothing she can really see in you. Following your heart? If by heart you mean male delusions created by male genetalia, then OK. Sounds about right.

And with all the scrutiny...will she be proven to be the "one and only' girl that he has had questionable relationships with?
I have a feeling there have been others.

One possibility of proving this might be in the 8,000 texts and any emails between them. I'm sure that at some point something was said about the relationship, where they were going to meet, or what they were doing. There is also a possibility that there might be pictures somewhere. What teen doesn't like to get pictures of their "boyfriend" even if the can't show them to anyone?

ITA! What a creep.

OT: Such great posts on this thread! Thanks my friends!!!!

I believe it! Maybe not the whole 4 years but it happened in our school. Our Math teacher was sleeping with a senior, I believe she was 17. There was a lot of talk about it before it actually came out but as far as we all knew it was nothing more then rumors. I'm sure a teacher had to overhear something at some point. I'm not sure if they didn't believe it or they chose to ignore it but we all heard about it so I don't now how they couldn't have. It finally came out when the girls sister read her sisters diary and gave it to her mom who then contacted the police.

He was married with children as well.

Yes, this type of stuff happens quite often and to believe otherwise is a little naive IMO. I know quite a few people who, as adults, look back on rumors of this nature they heard as high school students and wish that they had gone to an adult about them. I wonder if some of the explanation behind this is a sort of bystander effect-- they think that so many people have heard the rumors, and let's not forget that they are only rumors, that surely someone else has told an adult.

ETA-- I forgot to add this part. The girl and the teacher were interviewed on Nightline tonight. She said that her father died when she was 9, which speaks volumes in my mind. Also, they were seated next to one another and anytime the man was speaking, the girl seemed to be holding back laughter. This was especially evident when he spoke of her mother and how mad she is. He stated that her mother had threatened to kill him and the girl literally smiled and then caught herself, looked down and wiped the smile off of her face. It was very bizarre. They said that more of the interview will be on GMA this morning if anyone wants to catch it.

He seemed to be a very immature 41 year old man. I don't know if that is how he truly is or if he is trying to seem younger for her! But after watching the interview (link below)- this song kept running thru my head!!:innocent:

An angry California mother is alleging abuse now that her 18-year-old daughter is living with her former high school teacher, who left his wife and children to move into an apartment with the young woman.

James Hooker, 41, quit his job after going public with his love for Jordan Powers, who stopped attending classes at her Modesto high school and left home to be with her former business teacher.

Saw it on the news. Creep- O. (Shakes head in anger) This happens more than we hear about it and often.
I feel sorry for her family and for her when she wakes up somewhere down the line and realizes she wasted her youth with an old man who took advantage of her.

I know a guy who dates/ (engaged) only young women, (girls). It is a sickness and I don't for the life of me understand it on any level.
The man I know would date 16-23 year olds at age 35. First off, aside from the legal and moral implications, what the heck does anyone have in common with a baby? It sickens me. I noticed when they are confronted, they make excuses. They are plain and simple- PIGS..

There is not much we can do about it on the outside but all I have to add is, "It should not happen in a professional capacity!" This should not happen at all. (should is the operative word) He should not have gotten involved to begin with. Where are the boundaries we once had in place in society?

Hoping this ends soon. And, I also doubt this was his First time stepping out on his wife and also being with a young BABY....
Once again, got the creeps.

Goz

I feel so awful for this guy's family, and especially his daughter who is only a year younger than Jordan. How hurt and utterly humiliated she must be, because her father chose to "follow his heart". Sickening.

All of these older men (and some older women) who fall for such younger women (and men) have a rude awakening coming. Time waits for no man (or woman) and when gravity takes hold baby won't want to play anymore.:what:

I could understand if she was like 25 and a former student of his and he was not married etc. but an 18 year old and a 41 year old man who up and leaves his wife and kids for her......... no way.

Prime news said that classmates had taken photos of her sitting on his lap.

That is just creepy.

This also reminds me of the story of the 16 year old who married her 40 something year old teacher.

People make stupid family decisions all the time...men leave women. Marriages get destroyed, and both men and women go after other people.
How is this news-worthy?

I'm glad I'm not only one with this question. It would be little different if the mother can prove of sexual abuse before she turned 18, but until then...duh. Just a stupid man and young girl prolly making horrible decisions. Happens EVERYDAY.

I do feel bad for his wife and children....the mother of the girl...and the girl herself when she gets older. Oh, yeh, and her so called boyfrend that was being used. She's dropped out months before her graduation.....and he no longer has a job. How bright of a beginning is that?

Guess Baby, baby, baby and Justin Bieber are on his Ipod and among his favorites now. LOL

ETA: News worthy, imo. Missing teacher, Laurie May, from the Chicago area. Took off with 3 toddlers 4, 2, 1 and her 17 yr old former student. (Laurie was just fired from a teaching job she had only held for 6 mo. at the teen's school.)

In many states (not all) it is illegal for a teacher to have a sexual relationship with a high school student, no matter what the student's age is. So a teacher having sex with his student who is 18, and a senior in high school would be charged just the same as if the student were underage.

He would be fired, but he did nothing illegal. Since he turned in his resignation he negated that one. If it can be proven there was sexual abuse before she was 18, he's still in trouble.

***Why did the mother allow him in her house to pack her things?

IMO, it's not his heart he followed. I
Also think it's not his d?ck, which he has probably followed compulsively most of his life. Narcissists follow the "goo goo" because it strokes their fragile ego.

When she quits cooing and playing to his ego, he will be devastated.

Did someone say his wife has a young baby?? Whaddaya bet this teen got jealous and competitive over this and worked to "take him away" from his family. I can't wait to see HER pregnant with him out screwing around on HER. (well, not really, I wish he would go to prison and she would go home and resume what's left of her childhood, but thats not going to happen, especially if she's been his toy since she was 14. Even if she chased him mercilessly, he was in a "position of trust". Because of that, by law, if he knew of another man his age messing with her, he'd have to report it to Child Protective Services. These teachers KNOW the law; they learn it in mandatory continuiing Ed classes over and over again)

Gravity takes hold on everyone and people of the same age divorce every day. I am not sure that if I were this girl's mother I would want to make it so public. What is that going to accomplish?

ETA: Btw, I taught foster parent certification classes SPECIFICALLY on dealing with girls who are provocative towards foster family members, particularly the fathers, WHY they do this, and how to RESPOND to it.

ALSO, I don't tell this story often, as I have HAPPILY moved on with my life, but my college-teaching husband of 20 years had an affair with a 17 year old student. So I've seen this game from both sides of the fence. I STRONGLY believe this man abused this vulnerable young girl with emotional issues (even if SHE came on to HIM) and until we put these people innprison for it, others will continue to follow suit. This destroys lives, but keeping narcissistic sociopaths from destroying others around them for their own entertainment is a hard hard job.

Beyond everything else that doesn't make sense here, and what on earth could she see in him, the guy is really ugly.

Funny how they magically developed feelings for each other as soon as she turned 18. Puh-leeze.

Gravity takes hold on everyone and people of the same age divorce every day. I am not sure that if I were this girl's mother I would want to make it so public. What is that going to accomplish?

Maybe making it public was a last resort. This poor widowed mother may have not had the strong support she needed to be able to save her daughter by herself. At least she is showing her love, care, and heightened concern by leaving no stone unturned in her efforts to show her youthful (and therefore blinded) daughter how WRONG it was of this 40-something year old man to twist her young life so badly.

So now what does this couple do? Does she flip burgers to pay the rent? Do they go on the public dole and play video games day and night while living on food stamps, housing subsidies, Medicaid, etc? Are we, collectively, content to support them AND their future offspring? I'm curious as to whether he will be able/willing to create a new career for himself as his future in education or ANY work related to "position of trust" with children is gone.

Bless this girl's mother. I hope she survives the stress and years from now I hope her daughter loves her for the hard parenting she is doing now to save her future.

Did the girl's mother remarry? Anyone know?

It's very difficult to parse truth from rumor sometimes and if he denies a relationship and she denies a relationship then what can they do? You have to have a lot more than rumor or innuendo. If the rumors were flying fast and furious they should have asked him to transfer to another school.

They may have and he refused and they couldn't make him move. JMO

This reminds me of the Police song "Don't Stand So Close To Me"

...Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabokov...

Love you Steely, hope you know that. But I really won't be able to sleep until I make this comment:

To simply move this predator to another school because this was only "rumor" at that point would be akin to the Catholic church continually moving child molesting priests around rather than investigating and stopping the crimes.

Moving them around only gives them a larger pool of fresh, unsuspecting victims. :(
