Tempo Restaurant: What Happened There?

I suppose I was making assumptions. Here, most students need a high school GPA of 80-90% to be admitted, so literacy is in place.

Gotcha.

I feel as if exceptions were probably made in the case of a high school football superstar. It shouldn't be that way in my opinion but its been going on for as long as I can remember.

It hurts the schools, the students and the players...all for the almighty dollar.

I would think so. He's not dumb. He spent two years at one university, and almost a year at another one.

I think that it's been pretty well established that JM is not mentally handicapped officially. He graduate from high school, had several years of college drove a cab, worked at UVA Med Center, coached football at private school, and interacted with others within a "normal" threshhold. But clearly he had issues. We all have issues, but he seems to lack common sense, not get "personally boundaries (or not care), is negligent, is a scofflaw of sorts, has a temper , is not careful about being physical, etc, etc. Things that he should have tempered by this age, but he did not. Also liked to make the moves aggressively on women to the point of impropriety, and in the case of Hannah, looked like he was trying to take advantage of someone drunk, scared, lost. Not a good person, whether he did this with Hannah or not. He also has wreaked havoc on family and friends with his behavior over this. He spoke to an attorney and I doubt his advice was to go recklessly speed off and get an arrest charge and then leave the state like he did. He should have laid low and stayed quiet. Clearly he does not think things out carefully. and doesn't listen to others. Also very selfish.

If it is illegal to drink out on the Mall itself, how does the Tempo manager explain about selling him two drinks?......Hannah was outside according to him.

The report I read said he bought two beers to go. Whether they drank them right there or not was not clear. The report I read, the official one that Tempo set out, said that Hannah did NOT come into the restaraunt and the woman, "Abby" who was interviewed said the same, that Hannah waited for JM outside the restaraunt. He bought something and brought it out, but it was not Tempo or LE that said it was two beers, but some other source that I can't find--someone interviewed. Don't know if anyone can prove JM gave her anything--she was already quite intoxicated from reports. After all the walking and running, she was probably also fatigued , physically and mentally.

Great point but theres no restriction on how much beer or wine you you can purchase at one time in Va except at Happy Hour.

Youre limited to 2 drinks on the table for HH and its beer, wine or liquor.

For liquor youre only allowed to have two drinks sitting in front of you at any given time regardless of hours.

Personally I think that report is suspect. You arent allowed to buy beer off-premise or to-go in Va after midnight.

What do you mean change his clothes? Why do you think he changed his clothes? I must have missed that. And I agree, why did the WG say he was bald?

Wanted fresh clothes for his "date" with Hannah? Girl who reported seeing said he was all sweaty. Never did understand that huge discrepancy in descrip of WG. He might have just been mistaken, though there is a huge difference betw his scrip and JM. Doesn't really matter, as what counts is that JM can definitely be IDed at Tempo by a number of people WITH Hannah later. That's the last stop, last place that LE is saying Hannah could be traced, and she was with JM whom those at Tempo personally knew. No scrip needed, they knew who he was.

The actual statement from Tempo does NOT say what he did when he came into the place with Hannah waiting outside. Just says he came in there. it's other statements that say he bought something, bought beers, etc. Doubt Tempo would make an official statement that is not true, but they do not specify what happened when he came in that second time and was in there for 15 minutes. Maybe he settled his tab from earlier, used the bathroom, or possibly talked the person into selling him two beers to go.

The issue with the clothes is that the WG described the POI as having a white shirt and black pants. A local journalist has published a story about JM did on the evening of 9/12 along with pictures. In the picture he is wearing a blue checked shirt with a maroon tank underneath.

I am not writing WG off as of yet -- but not willing to go into why at the moment.

Interesting ... from the article:

The Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control would not release any records relating to Tempo Restaurant's liquor license to ABC News, saying the information was unavailable at this time "in light of the investigation being conducted by the Charlottesville Police Department."

Hmm. I don't like that Longo isn't going to challenge the owner's perspective, I hope the Dept. of ABC is going to look into it thoroughly. I'm not sure why the investigation means they can't release the license info.

Owner: "The mood that there is at this place is jovial...and we don't want the sadness of Hannah's desperation to carry along to us. I mean, it's difficult enough to bear to be part of it."

Translation: Dude, this is harshing my buzz.

He and serving staff didn't see JM the second time, or see Hannah. The receipt says "they had beers." Unless it's a self serve bar, someone served JM 2 beers.

I understand he's trying to run a business and nobody wants something like this connected to their establishment. But at the very least he needs to be fined, and he should have to put in cameras.

The restaurant owner said from receipts it shows he bought two beers.... seems odd. If she was outside, then why buy two beers ( it's after midnight ,so no to-go sales allowed) - did he take them outside or did Hannah come in ? I don't picture him sitting inside drinking while she is out on the mall.

Nor me. Watching that video was like watching sharks circling..

In my experience , unless the bartender was 100 percent shady, he wouldnt have talked them into selling him something to go. Its a 2k fine for the first offense and loss of liquor license for 30 days upon conviction.

Now JLM deciding to sneak them out on his own? It happens.

Yes, exactly so. I once had a horrible experience of being surrounded by a gang of hispanic guys in a parking garage. Lucky for me, a car came along and I was able to get into my car.

But what I see on that video, gives me the absolute creeps.

I could say more, but will wait to see how things play out.

Anyone can walk up to a bartender and order two drinks and no one would think a thing about it imo. I don't think they keep track and I think it's a bar scene rather than a fine dining scene late night- dj, dancing, etc
I do wonder about the two doors- did Abby (the employee at Tempo) mention JM coming out side door or something about a side door? Anyone knoe if that side door is located on the same side of the street as the main door?

Seems the restaurant and/or the reporters are having trouble keeping their stories straight. Just yesterday Coy said on a radio interview that the receipt actually said House Drink....this leads me to believe it was rail or well (house) drinks. As in bourbon.....like JLM was drinking earlier in the night.

If it was beer it should have said beer.

I don't think it's a good idea for LE to hit anyone who is giving up info on the case right now, or it will cause clamming up in epic proportions. It's not all that important. They can deal with it later. One has to make some decisions on things like that.

And for that matter Hannah's friends and classmates served her alchohol to the point where she was "extremely intoxicated" as all of the reports about her earlier activities report and they also just let her leave in the dark that way. But right now is not the time to shut down information.

Maybe she was just intoxicated and asked someone where she was, they responded by saying 5th and Water, and, since she wasn't familiar with that area she interpreted it as 15th and Wertland, somewhere she was very familiar with.

Did they say JM's car was parked at 4th?

Is it wrong to still feel a little not suspicious but like something isn't totally right with WG? I don't like how he sneakily followed Hannah out of "concern" but wasn't concerned enough to intervene when JM turned up. And how he didn't go to LE until the cctv footage was about to be released despite his earlier concern and it was all over the news. Not to mention his description of JM as bald and incorrect clothes. I don't know something doesn't feel right. I'm not saying I believe he had involvement in Hannah's disappearance, I'm sure LE has checked it out but it just strikes me as odd. JMO

I feel the same way. WG's actions, and the close-but-not-quite-accurate telling of what happened as he was following Hannah.... all very strange, imo.

We do...but only if a person is sitting by themselves and ordering 12 shots just before last call. :-)

Phones that are off, still ping, you'd have to take the battery out. In one of the other local case, related or not, I read somewhere even the processing chip in the phone had been broken.
