Tempo Restaurant: What Happened There?

I'm anxious to know that too. I would have bet my paycheck that Chief Longo was asked about that and he answered that the guy was "undercover" ( I thought that meant Mall security in street clothes) but I have searched everywhere and cannot find that conversation ..... I don't know if I imagined it or misheard. Otherwise I do remember him being mentioned in the first presser, and then some time after they said he had come to the station and described the events on the mall - but not since

There was something of the sort said, and I brought it up in an earlier post in an earlier thread, but was corrected. There was some confusion due to a Twitter remark that someone so interpreted. The last I read, WG is not undercover LE. But WG doesn't come up again after the video until he went to LE with his statement. Can't place him with Hannah after that and likely LE did ask him what he did that evening and it likely checked out.

Seems odd though, that they have assigned a staff member to the door to check ID and then overlook Hannah entering?
My daughter is 18 with older friends, she gets into establishments 40% of the time without being proofed. If I was door person I would be afraid to admit that if it happened.

BBM, an important point:

Its late...within 30 minutes of close and the door person could have been working since 5pm on a busy Friday night.

She sees JLM, remembers him from before, and also sees him walking with a young lady who is obviously trashed.

Wouldnt it be natural to assume she was of age? Especially when shes clearly drunk and walking with an older male who had been in an hour before?

I dont think she was carded at all.

I think this restaurant is fighting desperately to avoid losing their liquor license and going out of business.

This is what I think happened, too. Seen it many times before (incl. when I was 18.) Another thing: the owner is French, and Europeans tend to think American drinking laws are a bit silly. How different is an 18 yr old from a 21 yr old? Depends on the person, of course, but they would be considered peers. (Doorperson Abby is listed as being only 23.)

Yes
Source- I'm European

I think they should offer an amnesty for useful information

I am going to play devil's advocate here. The story about what JM did on the evening of 9/13 is mostly sourced to Coy Barefoot. There are a lot of people who think he is not a reliable source.

One thing to keep in mind: some think there was a concerted effort to paint Morgan Harrington as drunk or high *advertiser censored* who wandered around Charlottesville for hours trying to hook up with people before she met her ultimate demise. I tend to doubt that was the case.
Barefoot omits sources when he makes statements. Who said JM brought 2 drinks out of Tempo giving one to HG? I think he(Barefoot) tries to fill in the blanks with presumptions.

The VA ABC (state regulator for alcohol sales) has a reputation of being fairly tough in Cville.

Also the owner of Tempo has either owned or managed other restaurants in Cville prior to the opening of Tempo.

He know what the rules are -- which is why he was so quick to put out his side of the story as soon as JM was arrested.

Yes I agree. I feel sure she was in there, not just hanging around outside waiting, while this stranger drank another two beers.
I can't help thinking the owner's statement was more defensive than honest, really..

he paid for the mystery $7 drinks at 1.09am (credit card receipt)
He was seen leaving 1.40am-1.45 (Abby the bouncer)

There is more than 15 minutes at play, more like 30-35

Kinda rude and out of character to keep a young lady (especially one youre hoping to have sex with) waiting outside for that long isnt it?

Personally, I dont think he would have taken that chance.

Also why are there no eyewitnesses who remember seeing her or talking to her outside as they left the bar that night?

If she was as drunk as some are claiming you would think that at least someone would have asked her if she was alright at least.

I feel the same way. WG's actions, and the close-but-not-quite-accurate telling of what happened as he was following Hannah.... all very strange, imo.

This is one of the things that got me interested in this case at the beginning (that plus I lived in Charlottesville for a few years so I am familiar with all the key locations.) I was watching the CCTV video, before we knew anything about JL, and everything the police were saying about it and the POI they described, didn't align with what I was seeing on the screen.
There's also this Daily Mail article from Friday, Sept. 19 that actually says the police spoke with JL and ruled him out as a suspect. I know the Daily Mail gets things wrong often, but this seems like all kinds of wrong right here:
The man, who has not been identified, told police he had followed Hannah as she appeared 'physically distressed' and wanted to make sure she was safe.

According to the police, he said he saw another man stop Hannah and put his arm around her.

The man, who he described as black, is not captured in any of the video footage - but police have released a description of him.

Police have issued a statement to say the black man shown walking with Hannah Graham in video footage released by police has been ruled out of their missing persons inquiry.

The man, seen in the video who has dreadlocks and is wearing three-quarter length trousers, has already been interviewed by detectives.

A spokesman for Charlottesville Police Department said: 'We already know who the black man in the video is and he has spoken with officers.

'He has been ruled out of the inquiry.

'He has nothing to do with Hannah's disappearance.'

Police have however released a description of a different black man seen with Hannah that they are desperately trying to trace.

What do you mean change his clothes? Why do you think he changed his clothes? I must have missed that. And I agree, why did the WG say he was bald?
Is it possible that WG was himself intoxicated and that explains all the discrepancies in his story? He did wait a couple of days before showing up at the police station after calling in multiple times.

I haven't made up my mind yet as to whether HG went into Tempo, but somehow I think that Tempo plays a large role in this story-- which is why Longo made such a big deal about it in on of his PCs.

Underlying all of this though, is why HG was on the Downtown Mall at 1AM on a Saturday morning. Possible explanations that I can come up with:

1) She was lost -- I don't believe this. She may have lost her bearings, but once she got the Mall, I think she knew where she was going.

2) She went there to meet someone - possibly at Tempo. I think this is plausible.

3) She was trying to get to the bus station on Water St-- there she could have taken a bus that would have taken her back to campus grounds, close to where she lived.

Until we understand what she was doing down there, it is hard to come up with what the most likely scenario is for what happened at Tempo.

One thing about WG and JM in the video I keep wondering- how did JM get from the back of the group, pass them, then pass WG to get to Hannah's side by the time the Huel's video starts 2 minutes later- and wouldn't that have looked strange to everyone?

Phones that are off, still ping, you'd have to take the battery out. In one of the other local case, related or not, I read somewhere even the processing chip in the phone had been broken.

I did not know this. So a switched off phone can ping and the only way to stop this is to remove the battery. Then if Hannah's phone pings were lost before 1:45 am then JM would have had to take her phone while still in or around Tempo and remove the battery.

Interesting as I spend a lot of time in a French colony and they do not mess around with their liquor laws. Bam. Your business is done if you serve to people who are too drunk or underage.

That's a possibility- I can't figure out a reason WG would be just standing in that doorway like that at 1:00 a.m. unless he was waiting to meet someone but it seems so odd that he was even there at all, standing still instead of walking to some destination. jmo

What do you mean change his clothes? Why do you think he changed his clothes? I must have missed that.

Are you referring to the fact that in pictures from earlier in the evening (which were posted on line), JLM has on a bright blue and white gingham button down shirt? But in the video of him walking down the mall I think he is in a different shirt. Or am I just really tired.

What is HG was looking for someone and JM volunteered to go in and look for him/her?

Oh very very interesting thought. I have on occasion in my younger clubbing days been refused entry due to lack of id or something and I've got someone to go tell my friend who might already be inside.
