It was the summer of Woodstock and mini-skirts. Terrorists were hell-bent on wreaking havoc. So how did the Royals turn the investiture of Prince Charles into a TV triumph that electrified the world?​

A bomb planted in a Caernarfon police constable’s garden, intended to turn the 21-gun salute into a 22-gun salute, also went off, while nationalists hiding in the crowd hurled eggs at the Queen’s horse-drawn carriage.

While all eyes were on the Queen at Royal Ascot on Friday, her husband the Duke of Edinburgh was quietly carrying out a private engagement in Norfolk. Prince Philip, who retired from royal duties in 2017, conducted a meeting at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in his role as Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles.

Despite this being her *sixth* engagement in seven days, Queen Elizabeth II was full of smiles and appeared well rested as she greeted guests today...

It's been busy week for the monarch with her attending everyday of Royal Ascot and a polo match last Sunday

She does look great & genuinely enjoying herself

The regiment was formed in 1969 by the amalgamation of the South Wales Borderers and the Welch Regiment.

Prince Charles was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the new regiment in early 1969, his first Army appointment...

In August 1969 units of the 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Wales became the first British troops to be deployed in Belfast with A & B companies taking control of the Lower Falls Road ...

In late 1969 Prince Charles went to Caernarfon, North Wales, where the Queen created him Prince of Wales. Charles wore the uniform of Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regiment of Wales for the ceremony

Here in Canada it made the evening news when the Queen wore pants, it was historic. Can't remember how many times she had worn pants. For her generation, it is still expected that women wear skirts or dresses with hosiery, no bare legs. And to dress appropriately for whatever the occasion.
Her face also looks wonderful because I think we're not used to seeing famous women over 35 years old who haven't had their face done. Nothing wrong with aging naturally, her joy for life keeps that spark of joy on her face!

Did you notice she is wearing the same style of shoes in picture 2 and 3? Nothing like finding a comfortable pair of shoes.

I’m so surprised to see her using a cane in the pants picture. She amazes and worries me that she doesn’t use one when she’s out and about. A fall at her age can end up being fatal.
