It was the summer of Woodstock and mini-skirts. Terrorists were hell-bent on wreaking havoc. So how did the Royals turn the investiture of Prince Charles into a TV triumph that electrified the world?

It was July 1, 1969, and Charles, now 20, and resplendent in his uniform as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regiment of Wales, was to be officially invested with the title he had been granted as a child.

The ceremony was a milestone in the
modernisation of the Royal Family, a coronation spectacle designed not for the 4,000 invited guests but to be seen through the eye of a television camera by 500 million people worldwide (including 19 million in Britain)...

As the country celebrates the 50th anniversary of that day, he is still being proved right on both counts, yet his investiture was not without its horrors, notably a terror threat so high the BBC had recorded obituary tributes in case Charles was assassinated

 A bomb planted in a Caernarfon police constable’s garden, intended to turn the 21-gun salute into a 22-gun salute, also went off, while nationalists hiding in the crowd hurled eggs at the Queen’s horse-drawn carriage.

Prince Philip, 98, praised for his robust appearance as he carries out rare engagement
While all eyes were on the Queen at Royal Ascot on Friday, her husband the Duke of Edinburgh was quietly carrying out a private engagement in Norfolk. Prince Philip, who retired from royal duties in 2017, conducted a meeting at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in his role as Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles.

Such a pretty picture in pink :) HRH's skin is lovely. Wonder what her secret is for keeping her skin soft and peachy?

Congratulations, HRH Charles!

Can someone please explain just what this particular millinery designer had in mind??? :D

A retro-Tudor nod?

Royal Regiment of Wales

The regiment was formed in 1969 by the amalgamation of the South Wales Borderers and the Welch Regiment.

Prince Charles was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the new regiment in early 1969, his first Army appointment...

:) I was hoping someone here had seen it and could give us a review.
Thank you
If you can possibly watch it on a larger screen, I absolutely recommend it. Its such a beautiful series.
It was listed on a few various 'platforms' to stream which I'm sure many have access to.
You Tube I guess is the 'safe free-for-all' if not thou.
It does look stunning visually in the pics I've seen :)

And still quite content to be seen when not so much ... :D

Here in Canada it made the evening news when the Queen wore pants, it was historic. Can't remember how many times she had worn pants. For her generation, it is still expected that women wear skirts or dresses with hosiery, no bare legs. And to dress appropriately for whatever the occasion.
Her face also looks wonderful because I think we're not used to seeing famous women over 35 years old who haven't had their face done. Nothing wrong with aging naturally, her joy for life keeps that spark of joy on her face!

Did you notice she is wearing the same style of shoes in picture 2 and 3? Nothing like finding a comfortable pair of shoes.

Long live the Queen!
