*Update on Michelle Duggar*

I just got a blog comment with a update on Michelle Duggar. I have not heard anything else about her in the news but this is from a friend of the Bates family who are very close friends with the Duggar family. Please keep the Duggars in your prayers!!!

"Hi, you don't know me, but I know the Duggar's too. (I have met them several times while they've been visiting the Bates family in TN. I am the Bates family violin teacher) Anyways, just saw your post, and thought you'd like to know that they had to take the baby today at 25 weeks. It's a girl and she weighed 1 lb 6 oz. Please pray for her and the whole family, and tell everyone you know to pray for them! Thanks!"

it appears to be true, according to the 'duggars without pity' site.although apparently her bro in law said she was 24 wks, not 25.weight 1 lb 5 oz.posters say dr says the baby is fine, just small.

So, she did give birth? I'm confused. Everything I'm finding says she was being kept in the hospital for observation but that she wasn't giving birth/in labor.

To me this family is amazing. The parents have such patience with all of the kids and the kids are so well behaved. I can tell that this is a family just full of love for each other. Michelle looks so young to have that many kids. She doesn't look all worn out and haggard like some people do with a lot less kids.
I don't think there are many parents out there that could cope with this many kids but they just seem to take it in stride and they all work together.

I hope the new baby does well and doesn't have any health issues from being born so early. I wonder if this will be the last or not? I guess they leave those types of decisions up to the Lord. I really enjoy watching their program and seeing how they all work together and everything goes so smoothly.

I just read on a parenting group of someone claiming to live 20 minutes from them that had talked to some midwife friend of the Duggar family, of whom had been told by JimBob of the premature birth. (told the midwife).

Nothing is coming up in the news... just on parenting/pregnancy blogs, and parenting/fan groups. So if it is true, JimBob is calling everyone of which has a friend of a friend of a friend blogging about it, but not the press.

I hope it is just an out-of-control rumor... such small size and early birth is a very difficult hurdle for both the baby and family. I know from my own interactions with a dear friend that had such an early birth and tiny baby that such darling children can make it without problems, but majority of the time the odds are stacked against them. :(

My 17 month old granddaughter was born at 28 weeks and weighed 1lb 14oz. She had no problems and only had to stay in the NICU for 8 weeks. She came home after 8 weeks and has had no problems and has even caught up enough to be on the charts for weight and height. The only reason she had to stay in the hospital for as long as she did was because she would sometimes forget to breathe and needed to be on the monitors.

If the baby was born and the weight is accurate, there is a lot of hope.

TMZ is reporting she had the baby delivered by c-section. Don't know if it is true, but if it were true, wouldn't be surprising-she had so many children already (and close together in time), she had a number of c-sections, and she is getting older, so really complications wouldn't surprise me one bit. I really hope she stops having children.

Ok, it is finally hitting the mainstream entertainment sites like People and US magazine, but no AP reports... I think the baby's name is Josie and she was born 6 something-pm, yesterday evening.

Yep, Josie Brooklyn. It's very sad but it was only a matter of time until something like this happened. There's no way you can have that many kids and never run into a complication. Her uterus must be just mush, I wonder if it just wasn't strong enough to carry this baby?

I love the Duggars and I'm not trying to rip on them at all. I feel for them and I'm praying for the health of that baby.

It's amazing what they can do these days, isn't it? I have a friend whose baby was born at 24 weeks and she has cerebral palsy. I don't remember how much she weighed but I know it was under a pound.

I would say the gall bladder problem had something to do with the premature birth. There was a family in my town that had 22 kids with only one set of twins. I would say at least 15 of them were redheads. :) I hope the Duggar baby is OK, but the gestational age and weight doesn't look good. :(

ETA: Hopefully, they thought this might happen gave her steroids for baby's lung development.

There is nothing FINE about a 24 week baby who is "just small" :( I do hope she WILL be fine. The Duggars are in for a long haul with this little gal. Dang it, I'm sorry to hear this.

I agree with you, PeteyGirl, I thought it was just ignorant for the spokesperson to say that the baby and Michelle will be "just fine." I mean, I know medical science has come far, but at 1.6lbs. this baby isn't out of the woods yet.

Prayers for this little one, 24 weeks is awfully early regardless of wt. I'm more concerned about the gestational age than I am wt.

I guess the posters meant 'fine' as in no immediate concerns for this baby, she is stable.of course a 25 weeker who weighs just 1 lb 6 oz is going to be in nicu for awhile.I hope she doesn't have bleeds into the brain, cerebral palsy, or anything else.

I am due a week or two before Michelle was, and someone in my expecting club just gave birth to a baby boy at 24w2d.

He's stable as he can be now, but it usually takes awhile before you can tell if the baby will have longterm effects. Size actually plays into a lot. A baby under 500g is unlikely to survive regardless of gestational age. Girls are more likely to survive than boys. So many things play into it. She's 25 weeks, right? The chances are way better at 25 than 24. Every day counts in that range.

If the gallbladder attack caused intense contractions, that and a favorable cervix (after the first birth, some women's cervices never close completely would certainly make a pre-term birth more likely. I don't think it has much to do with the "mushiness" of her uterus. According to Michelle's doctor her uterus shows very little strain and she's 'made for having babies.'

Either way, it's sobering news. I pray for them. This stage of pregnancy is so critical and I don't know about anyone else, but I count the days up until 28 weeks. I'm hoping they foresaw this birth and started the baby on steroids prior to the birth. That really does help.

Come on Buzzie, we know some great only children, they grow up to be leaders, they are articulate, they can get along in any setting, with people young and old, they are compassionate, because their parents made sure they spent lots of time doing things with their peers in addition to spending lot of time with their parents.

We also know only children who's parents had a child because it was expected of them, or who got pregnant by accident and don't believe in abortion, then made darn good and sure that never happened again! They always treated the child like a miniature adult because they had no idea how to treat a child.

Then there are the ones who are spoiled beyond hope by parents who are afraid saying no will permanently scar their child's psyche. They never meant to have an only child, they just ran out of time. Now they give every thing under the sun and more to "Precious" so s/he doesn't miss having a sib.

Then there are the rest whose parent's didn't do everything right and they didn't do everything wrong. They tried to be good parents and tried to teach the child to be the best person they can be. Just like the majority of parents of 1, 2, 3, 4.... Just like most of us.

A few years back (like 4ish) I decided it was time to put my all thought of more children behind me. That summer I watched all the shows out there about having or bringing home a baby. Neither of them had ever even held a baby before! One couple was sooo cute, they were in their upper 30's at least. They both had careers, a beautiful home and a darling NSY. They got along great with each other. New mom to be traveled a lot for work, and they ate out a lot. They both said they hoped the baby enjoyed these things, because she was joining their life not the other way around. That made me giggle until I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face! They said it the way we would say something about hiring a new employe.

I would so love to see an up-date on them; to see how all those great plans
worked out for them!! Especially when baby hit 2-ish,

I just get tired of people who seem to have the impression that all only children are horribly and irredeemably selfish. I probably am more selfish in some ways, but IMO most people are selfish to some degree. Besides, we ALL have personality faults and I'm sure there are plenty of people who grew up with siblings who are selfish or have some other less than stellar attributes. It's part of being human.

As for this recent announcement of the 19th baby coming early...she may be "made for having babies," but she's 42! Just her age alone could have had something to do with the gallbladder attack...what's the saying, fat, female, and 40. She may not be fat but she's female and 40!

Just to be clear, I wasn't talking about what a poster said (no offense to anyone who posted that the baby would be "fine" -- those are just well wishes) -- I was talking about what a spokesperson for the family said (someone who should actually know some facts concerning the birth). I hope the baby is fine, too. And, actually, I was born 14 weeks premature 44 years ago, and I'm sure medical science has grown by leaps and bounds since then.

I understood what you were saying, no offense taken here.

When our oldest was in NICU, there were some teensy babies in there (nearly 22 yrs ago) and many of them made it out of the hospital, even back then. Our 8lb boy looked like a giant next to the teensy 2lb babies.

Lots of prayers that Duggar #19 is a fighter and makes it through without any problem. We are very fortunate to live in an age where medicine improves daily.
