The Duggar Family: 18 Kids & Counting

At around 22 to 23 weeks, the blood vessels "reach" the air sacs in the lungs so that air exchange in the lungs is possible (very, very simplified). Before that happens, no matter what gestational age or weight, there's no hope for survival. As it is, from what I could see Googling, the survival rate for a 24 week premie is about 41%, and 25 weeks is about 63%.

It's a terrible time for them, but they have what it takes to cope with whatever happens, strong family and faith. If Josie lives to meet her family, she'll have an envious set up :) I'll hope and pray that she does.

My family has just celebrated our micropremies 5th birthday.. our little blessing was born at 23 weeks and 13 oz.. despite tremendous odds against survival, and so many challanges in the weeks after birth as mentioned above there were surgeries, infections, ventilators, and brain bleeds.. so many crtical moments that this tiny person fought thru.. now a 5 year old with some challanges but they are being overcome one by one.. this little micro premie is inspiration that has shown the true meaning of determination and drive. This little miracle brings such humor and laughter to our family. I dont see this Dugar babys early birth as a negative. Yes its not ideal but these little miracles are here to teach all of us something about life and love. We not they are the benfactors of their survival. The Dugars babay is much larger and further along than our family member and is less likely to have as much to overcome however there are always risks with micro premies. They will be spending much time in the nicu and have entered a new club.. its not one any one wants to join but its a very small and close group. I wish they and their little girl much health and happiness.

Just to be clear, I wasn't talking about what a poster said (no offense to anyone who posted that the baby would be "fine" -- those are just well wishes) -- I was talking about what a spokesperson for the family said (someone who should actually know some facts concerning the birth). I hope the baby is fine, too. And, actually, I was born 14 weeks premature 44 years ago, and I'm sure medical science has grown by leaps and bounds since then.
yes I got that;I was talking about the posters on the duggars without pity site.
my aunt is 60 something and was also a preemie, but with the energy she has and the way she's run circles around everyone else all her life, you'd never know it.

I just get tired of people who seem to have the impression that all only children are horribly and irredeemably selfish. I probably am more selfish in some ways, but IMO most people are selfish to some degree. Besides, we ALL have personality faults and I'm sure there are plenty of people who grew up with siblings who are selfish or have some other less than stellar attributes. It's part of being human.

As for this recent announcement of the 19th baby coming early...she may be "made for having babies," but she's 42! Just her age alone could have had something to do with the gallbladder attack...what's the saying, fat, female, and 40. She may not be fat but she's female and 40!

There show is called "18 kids and counting." Sounds like this woman is expected to have more children. I think that at her age, and with a number of pregnancies and c-sections she had, something like this was bound to happen. I really hope they stop "counting" after this one, but based on their history, she probably will be pregnant again in no time.

If it's now called '19 and Counting',I guess we'll know.Hopefully it'll be '19 is Enough!',considering she'd had 4 c-sections now,a micropreemie and bp problems. And she's actually 43.Whether she can get pregnant again, who knows, but it wouldn't surprise me.They have said they would accept a baby with challenges, but what about the baby itself???? It's not about them.I hope they see that with this one.(JMO,I don't care to debate !)

I just don't see how it could possibly be healthy for a woman's body to have so many children.
It's not just the babies these people should think about, but the mother herself. She is no spring chicken.
I just don't know if these two will ever stop if it is still physically possible for her to have children.
One would think 18 should have been enough, but they went on to have this one.

I agree that it's a myth that only children are more spoiled or selfish, but the fat fertile and forty is now a myth, too. The doctor who removed my daughter's gall bladder said that she has had many many patients who are young and even some teens.

Yes, I myself had mine removed in my 20s. But I was fat and female, 2 out of 3!

..rumors on the web say Josie has died.I hope this isn't true.some said it was on their local news though.

I can't find anything official so maybe it's *not true!

I had my gallbladder removed the 1st week of my 2nd trimester of pregnancy I was 24. We were trying to make it thru the pregnancy i was in so much pain, but when they did the ultrasound of my gallbladder the Dr said it need to be out asap it was full of stones. As soon as i hit the 2nd trimester they took it out. My OB assisted in the surgery to watch the baby. It was successful my baby is now 7.

i wonder why they didn't remove her galbladder if it was that bad?

Maybe there's something about pregnancy that can trigger it or make it worse even though the patient didn't notice it before? Anyway, you'd think they'd remove it since it can be very serious and painful as all get-out.

I checked Television without Pity, FWIW, they have a 1700 page thread about the Duggars and there's a lot of Duggar fanatics and even a couple of "locals" on there, and no one has even hinted that they heard bad news about Josie.

They are speculating upon the LACK of news, though, and that in Duggar style, only good, encouraging news is released while bad news is not.

Oh no, I hope so bad that rumor isn't true. It was only a matter of time before a rumor like that started though, so I'm not going to put much thought into it. I pray baby Josie does well and is able to come home to all of her big brothers and sisters.

Having a NICU baby is so hard emotionally. For us it was such a rollercoaster ride and it was so hard to leave our baby behind in the hospital when we went home. I was a complete basketcase everytime I had to leave my son's side. I hope the Duggars find strength during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

My computer died, and I've been busy at work, so I haven't had much time on my favorite websites lately. I was so shocked to hear of Michelle Duggar's premature birth. And then to hear the rumor that the baby may have passed...it's awful. I'm glad it's just a rumor, and I hope the baby comes out okay. Christmas and the celebration of their baby's first birthday is no time for a tragedy like this. There is no time for a tragedy like this! I hope the best for them.

google josie and/or michelle duggar;there are new articles that say they're both stable.
