China is considering sending soldiers and workers to the former US airbase at Bagram | Daily Mail Online

in the wake of the United States' pullout from Afghanistan, China is looking to fill some of the real estate left behind in an attempt to strengthen ties with the Taliban and embarrass America.

China is considering sending military personnel and economic development officials to Bagram Airfield, one of the most prominent American military bases during the 20-year war, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The Communist country is reportedly conducting a feasibility study on the effect of such a plan as part of its 'Belt and Road Initiative.'

You would think that our military would have predicted this and destroyed Bagram completely before they left. Just doesn't make sense. They knew that China and Russia would move in, and that China had the means and motive to do this.

I don't think that Biden anticipated that the Afghanis / Taliban could put a Black Hawk in the air, repair abandoned military equipment, operate a drone, or align with Russia and China. It 100% appears as though Afghanis / Taliban were viewed as incapable of establishing an extremist Islamic military superpower in the Middle East. If that idea had occurred to those making decisions, they would not have left $83 billion in military equipment behind. I think that the USA severely under-estimated the situation.

Blinken: Taliban 'are not permitting' charter flights to leave Afghanistan

"Taliban forces “are not permitting” the takeoff of charter flights from a city in Afghanistan, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who also acknowledged “further complications” after repeated administration assurances that the United States had sufficient "leverage" to ensure continued safe departures after last month's withdrawal deadline.

“As of now, the Taliban are not permitting the charter flights to depart,” Blinken told reporters Wednesday at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. “We’ve made clear to all parties, we made clear to the Taliban, that these charters need to be able to depart, and we continue every day, virtually every hour, to work on that.”

Is this a carefully worded hostage crisis/situation?

I do think the resistance is still fighting.

Today we lost our senior Commander Haji Bahlol in Abdara area of #Panjshir
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tried to search more about the loss & struggle and came across this:

"The project began in April 2007, and local citizens constructed it under the supervision of contractors from Empower Consultants LTD, from New Zealand, and ISAF’s Panjsher Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Rear Admiral Matthieu Borsboom, ISAF’s senior officer responsible for stability operations, attended the ceremony on behalf of ISAF Commander General David McKiernan. Following the ceremony, Rear Admiral Borsboom shared an informal luncheon with Panjsher Governor Haji Bahlol Bahij."

I was looking for the numbers of Americans, in particular, children under 18 that are still left in Afghanistan. I guess I'll just have to wait...

Biden misses deadline to provide GOP senators with number of Americans left behind in Afghanistan

"President Biden missed a deadline Tuesday evening set by Republican senators who demanded he provide the exact number of Americans, green card holders and special immigrant visa applicants who remain in Afghanistan.

The group of 26 Republicans, led by Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, gave the president until 5 p.m. ET Tuesday to give the public a full, unclassified accounting of who was "left behind" after the last of the U.S. troops evacuated Kabul on Aug 30. They also wanted a detailed account of the vetting process of the Afghan refugees who are not SIVs or green card holders and whether they were evacuated to the U.S. with any pending immigration status."

The Taliban says it is willing to establish relations with all countries except Israel | Daily Mail Online

The Taliban are willing to establish relations with all countries except Israel, a spokesman for the hardline Islamists has announced.

Suhail Shaheen told Russian state-owned news agency Sputnik: 'In a new chapter if America wants to have a relation with us, which could be in the interest of both countries and both peoples, and if they want to participate in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, they are welcome.'

But he went on: 'Of course, we won't have any relation with Israel. We want to have relations with other countries, Israel is not among these countries.'

The Taliban has a history of supporting al-Qaeda, which routinely makes threats against the State of Israel and uses anti-Semitic rhetoric in its jihadist propaganda.

Exactly true IMO. I don't blame the military, or Homeland Security, or any other branch of the government because they were following orders. Apparently the Pentagon was also warning that these could be the dire outcomes, but were overruled.

TWENTY years ago at this time we had NO CLUE that a massive attack by al-Qaida was about to occur. No one could have imagined it. How could 19 men armed with box cutters bring down two 110-story buildings that were heavily guarded, right here in NYC? What could they do with box cutters--scratch the exterior of the towers? Oh, no, it turns out---this was planned ever since the first attack on the WTC a few years earlier, which killed six people but didn't demolish the buildings.

Led by a Saudi man who lived in a cave in Afghanistan, al-Qaida spent all that time plotting and preparing. Send the terrorists to live in America. Have them take flying lessons, but not to take off or land, since they had no plans to take off or to land. Board flights that were going cross-country so they'd have plenty of fuel. Bring box cutters on board. Use them to slash the throats of the stewardesses, which brought the pilots out of the cockpit. Slash the throats of the pilots. Take over the planes. Fly them into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, and either the White House or Capitol, whichever was the plan for the fourth plane. We all know the rest.

IMO there is NO excuse, none, zero, for anyone at the upper echelons of our government to have failed to predict this outcome. I know nothing about anything, but even I could have figured this is what could happen after this chaotic and misdirected withdrawal from Afghanistan.

It wasn't the Taliban that planned and executed 9/11, but they harbored al-Qaida and protected Bin Laden. And in the vast network of terrorist groups-Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, a thousand more---did the U.S. think there was no one with mechanical and engineering skill? Or that Russia and/or China would not swoop in to fill the void?

I genuinely need an emoji that is "shaking my head," but to the 1000th power.

Unfortunately, when commissions are formed, it could take years and years to see any results.
This is an emergency. The only thing that will help is be a drastic intervention that happens immediately. The brave civilians who are trying to get Americans out are being purposely blocked by the US government. This is a disaster for the world, and the people in charge have no intention of intervening in any positive way. MOO

I find it crazy that the Taliban are willing to partner with China, with what they are doing to the Uyghurs (Chinese Muslims) via "re-education camps", torture, etc. I guess they don't *really* care about their fellow Muslims. China wants to "crush Islamist extremism" in their country by doing what they are with the ethnic Uyghurs, but they are willing to partner with the Taliban?? What a (non-funny) Joke...

It's too late. Afghanistan is standing shoulder to shoulder with China, Russia and Pakistan. The withdrawal marked the moment that there is absolutely nothing that NATO can do about the situation without retaliation from Taliban allies. Biden did not communicate with allies leading up to the withdrawal, did not attend the G7 emergency meeting about the withdrawal, and there is really nothing to be done at this point - in my non-military opinion.

BBM.
You nailed it — they don’t care about their fellow Muslims because this has nothing to do with Islam. The Taliban likes to hide behind religion to justify an oppressive regime, but it’s no different than any other system of repression. This is about POWER. Plain and simple.

I do not think western nations should conduct relations with the Taliban. For what? Seems to me that all they want is money from us. They think we're the goose that laid the golden egg. Which, we did.

The U.S. needs to make it clear that we stand with Israel and that we will not tolerate threats against our allies.

Afghanistan LIVE updates: Ashraf Ghani apologises to Afghan people; Taliban bans women’s sports

''Women won't be allowed to play sport: Taliban
In an exclusive interview with SBS News, the deputy head of the Taliban's cultural commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq, said that sport is not seen as something that is important for women. "I don't think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket," Wasiq said.
However, the Taliban has allowed men's cricket to continue. Last week, a top official of the Afghan cricket board told The Indian Express that the team’s tour of Australia this year, which will include the first-ever Test between the two countries, has received green signal from the Taliban.''

''Afghanistan's last Jew leaves after Taliban takeover
The last member of Afghanistan's Jewish community has left the country.

Zebulon Simentov, who lived in a dilapidated synagogue in Kabul, kept kosher and prayed in Hebrew, endured decades of war as the country's centuries-old Jewish community rapidly dwindled. But the Taliban takeover last month seems to have been the last straw. Read the full report here.
