Thank you Arnie for finding those posts. I was able to use the search function but noticed that many images are broken in the old threads. Lanman is the first person to post about the wood chipper on here. It was noticed in the video of the hangar by CTV news. Many people chimed in, some of whom owned a wood chipper, which was so useful. I do remember about a stolen wood chipper too. I have a feeling the wood chipper will be involved in this crime. I found the wood chipper image that I posted via google images so I don't know if the second image of the yellow one is also Dellen's. I can see a long black trailer similar to one that he owned in the background so not sure.

There was a ton of searching through images, and I don't think anyone was ever able to match up that particular colour to any similar model found online. Here's an archive page of some previous discussion on WS re the wood chipper. I found onlooker's post of particular interest:

from:
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-209826.html

thanks for that, but back then, and now, still, those images don't match up for me... the sloping of the right side... and the hitch...

***IF that wood chipper was painted...it certainly makes me wonder.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...WHY??...JMHO....and as Ricky Ricardo used to say to Lucille Ball.." There is a lot of EXPLAINING to do".....I guess I shall be busy Tweeting away when this FINALLY hits Our court system not till 2015 I have read...:)

...IMO ....and I am curious about ...Tomorrow...September 9, 2014...I have read straight to trial and I am curious if they will be STARTING>>>To organizing the trial tomorrow...as the did in the Tori Strafford case...It was made in to chapters and it was published all over our Ont. papers ...who would be in court each day and there was a lot of argueing about the evidence that would be permitted....Does anyone know if this is what is starting tomorrow?....sorry if it has been mentioned on previous threads....It has been a very busy summer and I may have missed somethings on here....any answers will be appreciated...robynhood...is back looking again...!

While looking up information about the Vermeer brush/wood chipper, I noticed this used one for sale on the Vermeer Canada site. What I noticed is it has a Cummins diesel engine (Cummins 85 HP B3.3 diesel engine). TB's truck also had a Cummins diesel engine IIRC. Did DM and MS want TB's truck for the engine thinking they could put it into the wood chipper? Is that even a possibility to install the Dodge Cummins engine into the wood chipper? Maybe they thought it was doable. We know it's been reported DM wasn't mechanically inclined or knowledgeable in certain aspects. DM's mechanic SS had listed multiple items belonging to DM for sale on Kijiji and other sites, did anyone notice as to whether the wood chipper was ever listed for sale? MOO and TIA.

According to experts, the Cummins engine is a heavy-duty diesel engine used for mostly commercial vehicles and ideal for hauling large loads.
Both the 2500 and 3500 model Dodge can come equipped with the engine, usually for an extra fee — as little as $1,000 to $2,000.
Brand new, the value of the engine is $21,000, said Peel Chrysler sales associate James Philpott.
“It’s one of the best diesel engines in the world,” he said. “These types of engines, they’re big bucks.”
He said there’s nothing significant about the 2007 or 2010 models.

However, a contractor who worked on the hangar said Mr. Millard wasn’t the type to tinker on engines himself. “I’ve never seen his hands dirty that way. I didn’t find him that mechanically inclined,” the contractor said.

In fact, once when Mr. Millard needed some space he took a cutting torch and removed some structural components from the building, the contractor said. “That’s something you don’t do and I told him we have to put it back. And if he was a little more mechanically inclined, he would know that.”

Hmmm so does that mean image on far RIGHT which is yellow...is the orginal colour as I read swede mentioned earlier and than it was painted green?...

green? http://usedequipmentsale.net/2007-vermeer-bc1000xl-cowansville/
orange? http://www.equipmenttraderonline.com/listing/2006-VERMEER-BC1000XL-112923594

the slope on the front of the green one better matches the one found @ MA imo than the yellow one posted earlier for comparison.

-The stolen chipper had a (unique & distinguishing) painted black discharge spout
-DM's chipper has a similar black discharge chute

i don't think the neck is painted black, but a rubberized coating was adhered. the spec article mentions only the bottom half of the neck was coated, whereas the one found @ MA looks to be fully coated. i supposed additional coating could've been added to change the appearance if it was the stolen item...

Hi Matou ... I also noticed the "new forum upgrade" ruined the WS search function

Here are a couple of wood chipper posts I remember

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/2229059-police-hunt-stolen-brush-chipper/

Summary (my opinion) from last year when we were discussing the subject ,

-DM has a repainted Grey wood chipper at his hangar
-Earlier a yellow wood chipper had been stolen from an equipment compound in Oakville
-The stolen chipper had a (unique & distinguishing) painted black discharge spout
-DM's chipper has a similar black discharge chute
-The same grey paint used on the chipper was used on a (presumably stolen) deck trailer hauled away by LE from the DM hangar
-The same type of (pintle) hitch is used on the chipper and incinerator
-An airport facility requires a wood chipper about as much as it requires an animal incinerator
-With all the other bizarre aspects of this case I would not be surprised if the chipper & incinerator were intended for destroying evidence

.

I must have missed the deck trailer that was painted in the same colour, do you have a picture of this or MSM link to verify it, please? Do we have anything to determine whether or not it was stolen or if that is just supposition?

And is it not then possible that the chipper was painted as a test run before they painted the trailer, or vice versa? To me that doesn't mean that either one is stolen, personally. I think LE removed many things that did not turn out to be stolen, like the barrels of chemicals. They looked very damning, but were actually innocent, as I recall.

could the 100 be a typo? i just tried to google 100XL and only pics of the 1000XL came up, plus there is no 100XL listed on the vermeer website ?

I wondered that too, but had found a few references to a 100XL. I thought maybe they just don't make the 100 model anymore. But now that I look closer, the pictures do seem to show "1000". Weird.

Here is one picture
There are better ones than this but I dont feel like looking for them again
Actually all this wood chipper stuff has fully discussed last fall
I would have supplied the links but the new server update ruined the search function

Parts of the stolen Harley trailer were repainted , the woodchipper is repainted - I think the same color as the trailer below being hauled away by LE .... I do not think they would have seized it unless it is stolen property

All the controversy about which model of Chipper was also sorted out last year.

As well as being a helicopter pilot , I am also a professional aircraft and automotive painter.

the search function works fine afaik... i find what i need to. how do we know that trailer was re painted? it looks black not grey/green. police seize items for many reasons. and please, a link needs to be supplied about the make/model of the chipper when one says it's been "sorted out" -- thanks.

The information is here on webslueths, it has been discussed already , why not go look for it , as opposed to asking everyone else to do it for you ?

Hope that makes sense

Again, many things were confiscated by police that did not end up being stolen or even having anything to do with the crimes he is being charged with, like the barrels for example.

As a professional painter, would you agree that sometimes things are painted a certain colour because that is just the most convenient paint on hand?

As someone else pointed out, the search function doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to before some kind of WS upgrade. In any event, It is SO time consuming to even keep up with threads, let alone to visit old threads and drill into each post to look for a specific reference.
In any case, I found a reference to a private for-sale listing where the heading called it a BC100XL, but the body text of the listing listed it as a BC1000XL. Then I found other listings which stated that a 100XL takes up to a 6" diameter log while a 1000XL takes up to a 10" diameter log, so both must exist?
Then I found a site where both models were listed for sale and I have put the pics below, followed by the link. BUT THEN I noticed that even on this link, the photos of the 100XL actually have a label on the machine saying it is a 1000XL. Go figure. It seems that one individual has/had a 100XL listed for sale in a number of venues, and it is the same person, same pics, so the pics are either the wrong machine, or the fellow has made an error.
Here are pics of each model (keep in mind that the 1000XL is much newer than the (supposed 100XL which is labeled as a 1000XL):
100XL
vermeer-bc100xl-4.jpg
1000XL
2013-vermeer-bc-1000xl-2.jpg
http://tractorsforsales.com/vermeer-bc100xl/

I also came across a forum in which someone describes having used both (BBM):
We run a 1000xl as well as a 1400 vermeer. We've had small problems, probably all related to lack of maintenance. I would buy another 1400 (1500's they're called now) but i wouldn't buy a 1000 unless it was a newer model with double infeed rollers. The 100 we have has one horizontal roller which doesn't grab bigger wood or shrubby stuff very well at all.

I've had limited experience with other brands so i can't compare.

Being able to get parts quickly is huge, unless you can tolerate the machine being down for 3 or 4 days.

The confiscated items may not have been stolen, but hopefully LE would at least have thoroughly tested them for any possible DNA traces. The barrels... how do we know they had nothing to do with the crimes with which he is charged? Any chemicals or other things potentially found inside could have potentially had all kinds of different uses, a couple of which could render them involved in the case(s).
On the weekend I read a little bit about the Pickton pig farmer case, and it seems that if LE had tested handcuffs for DNA way back in 1998, it would have prevented some 45 additional murders, since the woman who had escaped and was still wearing the cuffs he had put on her, also had the DNA of 2 other missing/murdered women on them. Just saying that we can't assume that the only reason for confiscation of equipment and barrels would be theft.

This article says that the barrels are not relevant to the case, but they are talking about LB, so perhaps you are right.

The truck engine is 350-385 hp in contrast to the chipper's 85 hp. This would be way too much power and create too much torque on the existing parts, which would require a lot of re-modding.

I couldn't find size specs, but the truck engine would also be larger and require larger accessories (coolant reservoir, etc.) and it looks like it would be hard to put it in the engine compartment.

http://www.cumminsdieselspecs.com/67.html

I would bet that unless it was a drug/alcohol induced motive (a la TV's Home Improvement "More Power") that would be a crazy idea, and way more work than necessary. The chipper would destroy almost anything as is... The blades would be the first upgrade I would imagine if you were trying to modify it to chop something more dense.

i am going to call vermeer re: 100/1000... unless someone beats me to it. i will post what i find out...

Has it been determined which model it is? Onlooker seemed pretty convinced it was the BC1000XL, but the one stolen in 2012 was a BC100XL.

just heard back from vermeer... the rep says they have never made a BC100XL chipper. fwiw.

I think sometimes things are confiscated to gather information to make an inference that something may have occurred, judging by some of the cases I have read about in last couple of days. The items may just be used for that purpose and not related necessarily to the crime, I could be wrong, I am just trying to make sense of it like everyone else..
