JMO, but I think they're connected. I don't think it's separate - these are things we pick up from being part of a community. It's totally plausible that not being adequately socialised at a young age might result in violence and a misunderstanding of consequences. Basic stuff these children might have learnt at the end of primary school is just nonexistent for months at a time. We might be seeing pointless and senseless crime like this for a little while IMO.

Appreciate your response and yes, agree they are likely connected, and yes will see more and more of it. It is alarming.
My Mam is in her 80's, this is my biggest fear for her, terrifies me in fact.
Just don't think everything is down to schools to teach, we have parents/guardians etc to help guide us to

Appreciate yours too. Sorry if I was vague, I didn't mean to insinuate that it's all on teachers! I just meant that school's a great environment to make errors like (mild) violent retaliation and antisocial action, because there's trusted figures who can correct it, and when you're eight it's easy to learn and move on from.

But not like this. Even when parents are doing their best, their children can make devastating decisions - Brianna Ghey's case springs to mind, her mother and the mother of one of her killers are now friends and carry out activism together. Obviously I can't speculate on the background of these children but it's hard to imagine these actions coming out of thin air. JMO.

How truly awful, being alive for 80 years, he was obviously still agile and independent going about his day walking his dog. Then his life ended by children... senseless.

Agreeing with others there does seem to be more violent crimes being committed by younger teenagers these days, I too have wondered about the impact of lockdown.

I wonder if the younger kids are inticed by older teens/adults, grooming them into a life of crime. The minors do not face long prison sentences if caught, yet they become part of the crime community (aka gangs, for example).

That and the lack of discipline and respect. Many young people these ages are under the impression they can do or say what they like without consequences. It's like they are not taught respect for others, self respect and civility.

I hate to say it but that can be said about many in every generation. The ages of those prosecuted for the riots ranged from 12 all the way through to 81.

Very true.
Just seems worse with kids at the moment - teens arrested for stabbing teen in his home etc. Rioting kids, kids beating an elder gentleman.
Grim and sad times.

It's awful.
You'd think that even an elderly person walking his dog in a park near a built-up area would be safe. This wasn't out in the wilderness somewhere.
According to this article Pictured: Dog walker, 80, 'kicked to death by group of children' linked further up-thread, his dog was a big dog, you'd think capable of protecting him.
I doubt it's Britain only at the moment though. Brutal attacks in other countries, partially also by children and youths. MOO
Everywhere it would seem.. imo.

''Police have alleged that Lee, who was living in the city's shelter system, died after he was stabbed by a group of eight teenage girls in December 2022. At the time, police referred to the attack as a "swarming."
Eight girls, all of them between the ages of 13 and 16, were arrested in the hours that followed.''

Those of us in the USA and Australia should remember that convicts from England were sent to our continents back in history - many (most?) of them young! jmo

Mr Kohli's 1970s semi is the second to last house before the park entrance, just yards from where he was attacked. He would regularly walk his 15-year-old black and tan crossbreed dog, Rocky, in the park.

Neighbours and others living in the area said they had called the police in the last two or three months over gangs of youths abusing Asian residents and reported seeing them kicking cans and climbing on bungalow roofs.

They also said the children had thrown football-sized rocks at Mr Kohli. The large stones are used to stop people parking on grass verges in the quiet cul de sac but several were missing today.

Four of the five children arrested on suspicion of the murder of an 80-year-old man have now been released.

The youngsters were detained following the death of Bhim Kohli, who was attacked in a park in Braunstone Town, on the outskirts of Leicester.

Mr Kohli, who was walking his dog in Franklin Park, was seriously assaulted on Sunday and died in hospital on Monday evening.

A post-mortem examination found he died due to a neck injury, pending further tests.

Do these children live in the same neighborhood? I sure hope there is some order and enforcement that keeps them and family away from the victim's home and family.

This one has got to me. That poor poor man.

So it was just one of them that attacked him after all?
I hope the murderer serves as long as they can possibly give him, given his age. If it was up to me his age wouldn't come into it.

there's been too many cases like this lately in Canada and in the U.S.

wow I can imagine he loved living there with the park so close
poor man RIP and condolences to his loved ones
and do we know if the dog's ok?

Another neighbour, 50-year-old Frank Owen, said: 'It's only the last few weeks we've had this trouble with a bunch of kids. They've been playing up late at night. I've heard they were on a bungalow.'

'It's a cul de sac so unless you are coming here for a reason there is not much point unless you are going to the park.'

Another friend, 55-year-old Graham Haldane, told the Telegraph that cops took three days to take a statement.

'He was a lovely guy but was getting very frail. He had osteoporosis and could hardly move his neck', he said.

'He had three plots at the allotments and worked on them all year round. He had some bother a few months back with some kids who had climbed onto the flat garage roof opposite.

'He challenged them and they dished out some abuse and spat at him. He rang the police about it but it took them three days to come round and take a statement.
