Abcnews good enough?

There's a federal court case behind the technology as well.

I read your link and it states that authorities can remotely install software that can remotely activate your phone meaning your phone must be enabled to do this first. You can't install this remotely on a phone that is already turned off.
Nextel and Samsung handsets and the Motorola Razr are especially vulnerable to software downloads that activate their microphones, said James Atkinson, a counter-surveillance consultant who has worked closely with government agencies. "They can be remotely accessed and made to transmit room audio all the time," he said. "You can do that without having physical access to the phone."

I just sent a warning to HS, about her FB being open, for her safety I noticed she tends to post where she is going and stuff. Not good if the perp stalked her via FB. I also wanted her to know that many are now viewing it. It didn't seem right that we are viewing it without her knowledge. I hope I didn't come across like a strange agent to her. LOL

If an abductor is scared off from a certain potential victim, I don't think he returns to that victim, especially is he is looking for a "type" rather than a specific victim. So I don't think the fact that he did not return to the woman who reported in January means much. He may now know that there is a male in the household.

I would be surprised if LE had not tried to ping the phone right away, while battery was still good, but of course it may have been removed.

A VERY good idea!!!

Thanks and if HS was this guys first attempt at taking a girl, more than likely the perp lives near her or her activities. (fb too)

How many times have we heard that a criminals IE killers usually start close to their home. This could be a potential big lead in the case. If they can find a common link between HS and HB. I haven't crossed referenced her friends with maybe any friends on HB page or even HB and HS friends to each other. A daunting task but I wonder if there would be a connection there.

Edit to add: Scratch the last theory because I would think that anyone on HS friends list would have mentioned that they knew of HB via so and so.

It would make sense to add a few of the links of topics that keep coming up over and over to the top of the posts starting the thread. I think the frustration comes from all of us coming and going throughout the day and in some cases having to repeat the same links over and over. For me it's also been the continual insinuation the brother is somehow a part of this, insulting to the family. I thought that was 100% off limits.

They can activate your phone just like they can start your Onstar car from a desk half a country away. So long as there is still battery power. The entire issue is a legal tangle as the government claims there is no reasonable expectation of privacy when we use cell phones. Interesting followup here http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10451518-38.html

It comes down to the carriers need to know what MTSO you were in/last in.

Also. I have no idea if she had an AT&T phone. I post it only because they have the most detailed coverage maps for their networks. Notice a lot of the search areas on the google hollye map falls within the moderate (we all know what that means) areas.

I think there being a connection is very remote. These are two completely different communities. Also, Parson's is more centered (not just location, but centers of activities) in West TN and Centerville is more Middle TN.

She goes to school at UT - Martin, that is in Martin, TN. (West)

Just going by her FB page, says a school in Nashville, but who knows she may have gone to several schools. I, Personally don't think the 2 cases are related, but JMHO.

I am just going by what has been published in the media. Also, UT Martin makes more sense geographically. I would expect her to be living on campus if she goes to a school in Nashville.

I saw it very early on, but also saw where they stated people were being allowed to search who didn't bring it
