Unbelievable...The woman is an elected official in the state of TN, anyone who is an eligible voter in TN should contact this woman and let her know exactly how offensive her comment is.

Here's a bit more information about the woman.

Sheila Keckler Butt is an American politician from Columbia, Tennessee.[2][3] Butt is currently the Republican Majority Floor Leader of the Tennessee House of Representatives and she represents House District 64, encompassing the cities of Columbia, Mount Pleasant, and Spring Hill in parts of Maury County.

I apologize if this has already been said, I'm just now catching up on the story and that comment was too offensive to pass over. I'm fuming

Judging from her Wikipedia profile, she has some unusual beliefs, to be charitable. Some would find them quite offensive:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheila_Butt

She opposes biracial dating and supports the National Association for the Advancement of White People. Did she become acquainted with Tad Cummins through that organization? How, exactly, did she become acquainted with him and why does she support his activities when they are clearly illegal and immoral?

ETA: Upon further review, it appears she's one of those people who doesn't believe there is such a thing as rape or incest. I guess this explains why she's defending Cummins. Apparently she believes girls can't be raped if they don't want to be.

During a 2015 debate in the House, Butt said that most instances of rape or incest are "not verifiable" and stated that an amendment brought to the House Floor to provide for exceptions for rape and incest victims "appears political".[22] Butt's remarks were criticized on the floor of the Tennessee House of Representatives as "dangerous and insulting" by TNGA Rep. Sherry Jones who in part stated,

Elizabeth Thomas safe, Tad Cummins faces federal charge

Siskiyou Sheriff Jon Lopey said his office's special response team went to the cabin, which was two hours away from their headquarters. By 4 a.m., the team surrounded the cabin and waited. When Cummins walked out about 9:30 a.m., he was arrested without a scuffle, Lopey said. Elizabeth came out of the cabin as the arrest took place, Lopey said.

Deputies found two loaded handguns — a 9 mm pistol and a Ruger .380 — and multiple license plates in the cabin nestled in massive Siskiyou County, which is filled with national forest and state lands and borders the California-Oregon state line.

Kudos Northern California and TBI for working together to bring her home safe.

PLEEEEEEZ give these guys every bit of the reward money. They are heroes!!!!

I totally agree that they should receive the award.....however, I also believe that the brave 12 year old girl, who tried her best to prevent this from ever happening in the first place, should get a good portion of that money placed into a college fund for her future use!

RBBM- he will be a jail bird. Not much to take back. Right?

At least she'd knows where he's at. I think she'll take him back too. Leave town, make a new life and visit him on weekends to pray.

Something about this tugs at my heart. I want her to have the travel road trip adventure she deserves.

Something about ET tugged at my heart from the beginning. I think it is her vulnerability. I hope she will be well cared for and loved, get a good education, and have many wonderful adventures.

Are you thinking that because she said that she still loves him but doesn't trust him?

Based on the horrible experience of a close friend of mine, I can totally believe that JC didn't have a clue. My friend and her husband mentored a teen of about 16 with similar interests who was a student of my friend. They treated her like a daughter. After she turned 18, my friend caught her husband kissing her. He apologized profusely, begged for forgiveness, the girl was banished from visiting them, and my friend tried to rebuild her marriage, not realizing that he was still seeing her. When she turned 19, husband and girl took off together in a carefully hatched plot, leaving my friend blindsided and devastated. Call her naive, but she didn't have a clue. By the way, husband was 65! Needless to say, the relationship lasted only two years and he is now alone. His adult kids will barely speak to him. My friend divorced, moved near her kids and has rebuilt her life quite well. I wish the same for JC, but it's a long road.

"Thanks" just wasn't enough. From personal experience I can say that yes, it's entirely possible to be utterly blindsided, and for that reason alone, my heart just aches for JC and her daughters, as well as for ET. They're ALL going to need gentle, loving, professional supports to get them through this and back to a healthy place of thinking/feeling/trusting.

OMG LOADED handguns!!!

Yes. Also I believe she would feel it necessary to stand by her husband in his time of need. For better or worse kind of thing.

Personally, I find sharing the detail about Cialis distasteful. We already know ET was assaulted. Sharing the detail feels exploitative, especially knowing ET's sister is on these threads. ET has been exploited enough. We can make the connection in our own minds about what the last month has been like for her without sensationalizing the details. My opinion only. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this.

I hope ET is able to return home with the privacy and care she so desperately deserves. Hopefully Elizabeth Smart can be a shoulder for her privately as she heals from the mental mind games played on her.

Prior to this case, I was with you on the puking. In fact, I had to force myself to listen to her podcast the first time I was made aware that she was featuring this crime on an episode. While I'm still not a convert by any means, I'm begrudgingly grateful to her for featuring the story on both the podcast and her affiliated website when other media outlets couldn't be bothered. She interviewed both Jason Whatley and Brent Cooper which helped me get a grasp on who these insiders were. I never saw either on CNN, Fox, et al. (not saying they were never on those news outlets, just never personally saw them on there).
Anyway, I might even continue listening to her podcast in the future. :shame:

I have listened to 2 of her pod casts and they are a lot easier to listen to compared to watching her TV show which was just horrible with the way she always cut off her guests mid sentence, make accusations and basically prosecute people long before all the evidence was in place. IMO

Victims of predatory manipulation and coercion are often convinced it's the best they are going to get. They try to make a life of what's in front of them. It's a coping mechanism. I obviously don't know if this is what she was doing, but it wouldn't be surprising. Gathering stones would fit into that.

I also hope she gets a wild and free vacation some day.

Of course there will be discussion of these items in the trial. That's hard enough, but expected. I just hope she doesn't ever read a thread like this with people discussing how it was or wasn't used. It just seems intrusive and unkind to me. But I guess that's just me. Carry on.

The interest in it is obsessive...we know what he is charged with. No need to discuss the details ad infinitum. JMO

Even a minor? Can they do the test with fathers permission? (Mom has no say so and is not allowed to see her). She is not considered an adult. Thanks.

I am way behind on reading so I hope others have not answered this again and again. I have been a rape/sexual abuse counselor and sat in the room with many people who consented to do this exam. Even with full consent, the forensic rape exam is traumatic. It is invasive--vaginally, anally, and/or orally. The full body is scanned. Blood may be drawn to test for presence of drugs. There is a combing for public hairs. They are looking for any and all evidence. If there is bruising, the bruises are measured and/or photographed. The survivor is photographed. Camera with a photo capability takes internal photos of any genital injuries. All clothing is collected and bagged. Plan B may be given. STD medications are given prophylactically. HIV follow-ups would be done. Each of the medications are described with side effects and benefits. This process can take up to four hours.

I have been with survivors who just sob the whole time even though they are consenting. It is really a re-traumatizing even though it is a necessary process.

They may actually sedate a younger child to avoid further re-tauma.

The nurses and doctors I have worked with have always been kind, gentle, and professional but this is a devastating process for them as well.

My understanding is that she would need to consent. Even if her family consented and she refused, she might not have one done.

Although possibly not really related any longer - if anyone wants to see the BBR commune that TC may or may not have been kicked out of, there is a youtube video...

It also gives some views to Siskiyou county and how beautiful it is up there along with the commune and people who have lived there as well as some living there at the time of the documentary which was a few years back.

ETA - Warning nudity.

Or gathering stones means she is a rockhound like me! :)
