He certainly has the right to a trial by jury, but the two Federal charges are:
1. transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activities and
2. destruction, alteration or falsification of records in a federal investigation.

All the government has to do is prove that one or both of those charges is true beyond a reasonable doubt.

It doesn't matter one bit if they are "in love" or if she went "willingly". It is against Federal law to transport a minor across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activities. The jury will be instructed to follow the law, regardless of their personal feelings.

He's going down. IMHO. :jail: :cow:

I hope so!

Will cameras be allowed in the courtroom?

Yesterday was the divorce hearing for Jill and Tad. Anyone know how it went?

Surely this guy is going to take a plea? Now all the hype is over and (most) heads are cooler, he must be able to see that whatever his reasons were for taking her, its not going to fly? MOO.

I wish but I doubt it.

Does anyone know why 'mom' is in a neck brace and using a walker....I am just curious. Thanks

ET's sister said she bought a wheelchair and neck brace at Goodwill to get sympathy IIRC .

OMG For real? wow. some people have no sense of shame. at all. instead of focusing on helping ET heal, she is seeing what she can do to benefit herself. #killmenow

If that is true, I hope there is some reason the Judge can ask her about her to prove the so called questionable disability and sends her for a disability proof physical. IMO she is using these items as a crutch to say she physically could not have harmed the kids. JMO

Family of Tenn. Teen [ET] Prepares for ‘Highly Emotional’ Trial of Ex-Teacher and Alleged Kidnapper

July 5, 2017

On July 25, Tad Cummins, the 51-year-old Tennessee man accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student for 38 days and taking her across the country, will go on trial in federal court.

Cummins is charged with kidnapping and sex crimes in the alleged abduction of [ET], then a freshman at Culleoka Unit School in Maury County. Meanwhile, [E's] father says the family is still coming to terms with the “horrific experience” he allegedly put them and their loved one through.

[...]

It is unclear at this time whether [E] will testify, but the family plans on attending the trial to show their support for her.

“We’ve spoken many times as a family,” Anthony says. “[Going to court] is just something we’re going to have to go through.”

[...]

Thomas would not disclose how [E] is currently doing but he said that with the family’s support and help of counselors, she is making progress.

[..]

If convicted, Cummins faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison.

PEOPLE’s calls to Cummins’ public defender, Dumaka Shabazz, were not returned.

He also faces charges in California for alleged kidnapping and possession of stolen property.

I wonder what will happen at trial?!!

Hope MCET is doing well.
