"The words did not in any way imply that no search was required."

Wait---didn't Don say, in his interview with CM, that they shouldn't have been searching that area, and he tried to tell them it was a waste of time , but they wouldn't listen to him?

I am pretty sure he said exactly that.
But the search occurred....and she wasn't found there. So maybe he was right?

IMO.

I think it’s difficult to say that all those dense woods have definitively been cleared. I don’t have a reference, so IMO, but I’ve seen other cases where areas have been searched and upon searching later, the missing person was found close to the original location. I have no idea where Summer is but it’s hard for me to think that without multiple extensive property searches we can know for sure. JMO.
I also think that 5 year olds can go explore without considering it exploring. Following a bird or see something interesting and just get distracted and lose their way. I don’t know if that is the case here or not but I’m not ready to say anyone was right about what happened to Summer until she has been found somewhere. JMO.
The woods were described as dark and treacherous by the searchers. I don't believe a 5-yo would enter by themselves. When my children and grandchildren were 5, they wanted a night light in their bedroom. JMO

I always think of her being barefoot as well. I know we have videos of her running around barefoot, but that's a different story in thick woods.

I hear you. I just don’t think we know what she did. Her parents said she loves being outside and often runs around barefoot.

(10:30)

Her brothers could go through the woods to the creek, so it sounds natural to me. It’s also entirely possible it didn’t happen. I just hope that nothing is ruled out without a ton of searching by trained professionals. And regardless, I think it was an odd thing to say by both parents immediately that she was gone, without checking 100%. JMO. Because really, you can’t know what happened to Summer unless you know what happened to Summer. IMO.

Do you know which interview is the one where searchers describe the woods as dark and treacherous? I’d like to include a transcript so we can all use it for reference :)

Little children can sometimes find little paths and hiding places that might be difficult for an adult to access. Idk that this is what happened in this case, but it has to be taken into consideration that what might be accessible to her little feet might not be a path at all to an adult.

Also, things that could hold her weight can't hold the weight of an adult. She might step on things an adult never would because we'd know it was unstable or could hide snakes.

I guess some of the search dogs would be more comparable to her size-wise. But, they can only indicate to their partner if they smell something like the item they were given to sniff.

Of course, that would be back during the early days. It's all different now that so long has gone by.

I think number 3 could be accidental or neglectful accident which someone covered up for fear of being charged criminally.
That’s the most likely scenario to my thinking.

I believe SJ, CM’s linguistic specialist got it right when he said between the lines, DW already told them what happened:

CW created a mess, and he had to clean it up.

I think it is the most likely scenario at this point based on other cases I've followed. JMO

SMK777 - I'd love to hear this commentary by the linguistic specialist which I must have missed before. Do you know which video it is? TIA!

We lived in the country. My son used to explore all over the 10 acres we lived on, from the age of 3 yrs old. Once he and our dog wandered over onto the neighbors property and ended up almost a mile from our home. His dad found him and he was fine. But kids that young DO sometimes like the adventure of exploring.

Perhaps the person or persons responsible for Summer's disappearance disposed of her in a body of water.

The Cherokee Lake in TN is about a 40 - 60 minute drive from Rogersville, TN. It has almost 400 ft of shoreline.

If Summer was already deceased, and driven away from her home between 3 - 4 p.m. on the day she disappeared, the person responsible could have driven to the river, disposed of her body and returned home near the time of the 911 call (6:30 p.m.). The Cherokee River is a popular fishing location; someone who does a lot of fishing would be familiar with the shoreline and its secluded areas.

Four or Five bodies have been pulled from Lake Cherokee in recent years. The deaths appear to be accidental.
