The 48 Hours thread will be opened shortly before the episode airs.

I'm gonna have a :tantrum: If I don't get to watch this with you guys, it's bad enough I have to wait until the 22nd for The Killing Season.

I will find a way!! 3am UK? I think

Part of me genuinely does feel sorry for the mom. I mean, we've all seen the reports of his behavior from a VERY early age. She's been dealing with this beast for 45 years. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a kid like him, and then find out what he'd done. Of course she's in denial, shock and disbelief I'm sure. Mixed in with about 800 other emotions.

Me too. Reading reactions I was wondering if I'm too soft, I mean I shed a tear for her when I very first saw a clip. I think she clearly has some issues of her own but you can't make excuses for what he has done, he is undoubtably a monster. Think them in your head as you process all this sure but state them on TV, good grief, NO. It leaves you open to all kinds of accusations. She has enabled him by the sounds of it, but I don't know all the facts, none of us do. I think referring to her as looney is a little offensive....as far as we know she is a victim too.

The only thing I do know is this is tragic and horrible and one huge mess. Humans *sigh*

I think she needed someone in her life to convince her these interviews were probably a bad idea. I am afraid this is just going to cause her more pain from the public backlash. That said, I'll be glued to the tv watching tonight.

I would pay to know the truth about TK's home life from birth forward. We've read he displayed bizarre behavior at 15 months. But, what went on from moment of birth? How was he treated and nurtured? We'll never know.

TK's bio father left them before he was 2 months old. He did not come back into TK's life until around age 12. That is from his mother's interview. I'm guessing we will find out more eventually.

Quoting myself here to add this quote from one of TK'S colleagues:

"Shorts distanced himself in recent years, saying Kohlhepp would make statements such as: "'You know I don't sleep much at night and get up at 3 o'clock in the morning, and I kind of know where people live.'"

www.sfchronicle.com/news/crime/amp/Successful-real-estate-firm-built-during-hidden-10610074.php

"As he built a successful real estate firm, Todd Kohlhepp's behavior struck some as odd: watching pornographic videos during work, making macabre jokes in marketing literature and openly discussing that he was a sex offender."

Lots more interesting information in the link.

Preoccupied with sex as a child and teen, still preoccupied--who openly watches *advertiser censored* at work???

I didn't see this get posted before, apologies if it has.

How police used pings from a cell phone to find KB

http://www.greenvilleonline.com/sto...ed-pings-cell-phone-find-kala-brown/93666136/

Thanks Kadoober, that's a really helpful article I had not seen. Would you redact her name please?

Quotes from that article explain why it wasn't as simple as following KB's phone pings:
The technology investigators used to locate [KB]’s last cell phone signal isn’t like the more-common GPS technology most people are familiar with from using Apple or Android devices. That technology would have worked only if she had location services turned on or a “find my phone” feature, said Gary Miliefsky, CEO of Snoopwall, an electronic security company.

Instead, investigators obtained cell phone records to show which cell phone towers [KB]’s phone had connected to up until the moment it died, according to security experts.
It could be more difficult if only two towers are nearby, like Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright said was the case when searching for [KB].

Having two nearby towers versus three would likely provide a larger search area based on where the towers' signals overlap, Miliefsky said.

“So there are various different technical ways that a cell phone could be sending various messages over a short period of time, these sort of signaling messages, to multiple towers,” Gillula said. “That’s likely how they figured it out.”

Brad Whitfield, an Anderson investigator who focused on obtaining and analyzing [KB]’s cell phone records, said it was a process of narrowing down the location of [KB]’s cell phone pings to the Woodruff property.

Oh gosh, I wasn't thinking.
Thank you for snipping tlcya!

I've done it a few times myself. It's easy to forget when you are C&Ping. Thank you tlcya for fixing it!

caught my own self doing it a couple of times.

I truly appreciate the members who have been following this bizarre case. Everyone has been great about self policing, alerting when needed, and generally discussing this whole many layered case in a respectful way.

You are all very much appreciated. The members are what makes Websleuths the best crime discussion on the web. (JMO)

A sex offender openly watching *advertiser censored* should have set off all sorts of alarms!! Ugh.

Wonder what they saw from the flyover exactly? Could they have even seen the shipping container from the air? Or simply the ground moving equipment was of enough concern? Curious. Could thermal imaging detect something through a shipping container?
They weren't concerned over the shipping container until a rookie cop said she heard something, so they knocked on the container and KB screamed.
