You've done it there Viper - you made my empathy "gland" kick in again- which I'd had excised in relation to OP.

I can't laugh at that - even though it's OP- I'm just programmed that way when I see human distress that looks sincere even though he cries for all the wrong reasons, always IMO.

I will go and hunt for something equally depressing!! :thinking:
Then someone else can take the tone back up...

When I see pictures of Oscar as a child, of course, my heart softens, equally so for Reeva.

My heart was hardened to OP's theatrics in the courtroom though, unfortunately, from life experience, I've learnt men and women are capable of crying for all sorts of reasons, remorse sometimes is not one of them. jmo

May I ask: What makes you say that? What does "in fact" mean? Do you mean to imply a professor of law is automatically lower in legal ability than a judge?

Masipa is a cipher as far as I can see. Quiet, reserved, polite, inscrutable. During the entirety of the trial prior to verdict, I could really form no opinion of her except "well she is a high ranking judge, so I guess she knows what she's doing ..." Now that the verdict is in, I have reservations about her ability.

The "little" sentencing hearing may turn out to be the most dramatic and interesting part of this whole ordeal.

I wish I could be optimistic.

There are many things in life that I'm fascinated by, the law being one of them. While the rendering of the verdict was still pending, I enjoyed reading the thoughts of Mr. Grant and others with legal training... I was hungry for their opinions and would have relished being able to sit in on some of Assoc Prof Grant's classes. I expect he is really good at what he does. However, Imo, (well in fact for that matter), he is no Judge Masipa.

All along I have held Judge Masipa in the highest regard and though her verdict was not what I had hoped to hear, my admiration for her and for her position has not changed one iota. She was the only Judge on this case and she has spoken... I have to honor that.

I actually applaud her for having the guts to go against the majority public opinion.

Foxbluff, I have to really commend you for taking the high road. There's a lot of mudslinging going on with Masipa at this time whereas before the verdict, many of the comments regarding her were very positive.

I don't agree with her verdict in this trial, but I hope this is not the end of the trial. I do hope that the mounting pressure on her now will force her to give a strong sentence during the punishment phase and if not, I do hope that the PT does take the opportunity to appeal this verdict. Many legal analysts are saying that there may be a case for this.

Cottonweaver, thanks for the legal links. I haven't time today to do them justice but there does seem to be a consensus that the judge got at least one aspect of the law wrong. I'm not going to write things off for now, not until the State's appeal has been denied or not upheld. The fat lady isn't even getting warmed up now.

Doesnt matter if it was or if it wasn't, it fits with how Roux described his own client at times, "his shirt is soaking wet," presumably wet with tears (for himself) and snot. And its funny, especially when you read the hashtags that go with it, my favorite is #StopBeingAB*itch. OP is a crybaby.
