Defence get to argue mitigating factors first, then prosecution get to the lay out the aggravating factors. I think this phase of the trial may last three or four days.

3 days or...three months...what with all the tea breaks; tear breaks; sick breaks; defense witness-finding breaks; judge breaks; construction in the hall breaks; phone breaks; lunch breaks.

I'm also expecting violin-break for the "broken" famous manchild named Oscar Pistorius. I just read that letter he sent to Samantha Taylor (and her mother?!). So, so painful. Emotional maturity of a baby raccoon.

I would never have thought it before the verdict, but I wouldn't be surprised if Oscar gets a very, very lenient sentence with practically no jail time at all.

I am of the view that the accused acted too hastily and used excessive force. In the circumstances it is clear that his conduct was negligent.
