Well, EWN just pointing out the irony (I'd say hypocrisy) of Uncle Arnold calling for privacy and dignity, when Carl and Aimee had the media blitz yesterday.

OP is now in the prison.

Uncle Arnold has just given another disgusting press conference. Blamed the State for pursuing premeditated murder charge and said since they couldn't make it stick, they went for a mosaic. That's precisely what you do when you've only got circumstantial evidence. He says that it was because of the premeditated charge that it got all the media attention. He won't be speaking further, won't be taking questions. Wants the media to accept the sentence and to give the family privacy and allow them dignity.

I am surprised he's allowed a cell phone while incarcerated.......thought cell phones were considered verboten

Maybe under these circumstances they're allowing it - you know, since Oscar doesn't recall his password. :liar:

Here's Uncle Arnold's statement (via Guardian):

Today a new season starts for us as a family … Not just the Pistorius family alone, but the Steenkamp family.

It has been a harrowing 20 months. We are all emotionally drained and exhausted.

The case that was set down for three weeks originally has been dragged out for seven months – in fact, for 20 months [since the bail hearing].

In the process, [the state] decided to inflict as much collateral damage as they could, by keeping the cloud of premeditated murder as long as possible … The truth became totally irrelevant to the state’s case to make premeditated murder stick.

We accept the judgment. Ocar will embrace this opportunity to pay back to society.

I appeal to all of you as the media to accept the ruling of the court. After 20 months of relentless public trial, I would ask you … to let us move forward … and give us some degree of dignity and privacy as we do so.

I want to say something as an uncle. I hope Oscar will start his own healing process as we walk down the path of restoration. As a family we are ready to support and guide Oscar as he serves his sentence.

Please understand that I don’t want to take any questions.

Not a good OSCAR day. Oscar De La Renta died today. Have CNN on, I heard Oscar died today, I smiled looked at the screen, and realized I am a sick puppy!

"Pistorius' defense lawyer Barry Roux said he expected the jailed athlete to serve only 10 months of the five-year sentence behind bars, and the remainder under house arrest.

However, South Africa's state prosecuting authority disputed this opinion, saying Pistorius was likely to serve at least a third of his sentence in prison - effectively 20 months".

Arnold: .....harrowing 20 months...we are all exhausted....case dragged out. State tried to force a puzzle into premeditaed murder, when they realized the mosaic didn't fit, decided to create collatoral damage by creating cloud of 'premeditated murder....

Not anything at all about how OP killed Reeva. The whole family is so self serving.

The more I hear from Uncle Arnold the more I understand how Oscar Pistorius has got to where he has.

There wasn't a trace of acknowledgement of Oscar's responsibility in all this. It was all the state and nasty media. I think he did mention the Steenkamps have suffered 'as well' , I think?

I think he had a cheek calling a presser outside court anyhow. That's traditionally the place of the victim's family, if they want to make a statement. Wish they had.

And I hope NEL brings an appeal for all of YOU!!!

I don't know ... puking, howling, wailing Oz may not last even 10 months in prison. LOL

He's nothing more than a coward with a huge sense of entitlement, used to the good life, giving orders and getting exactly what he demands.

They'll break him.

His family and a couple friends may put up with his sh#t, but SA will not.

I read on ENCA.com that by sentencing Oscar under 276 (1) i (as opposed to 286 (1) h) it meant: "head of the prison has the discretion to release him at any time", but with a minimum served of at least 1/6 of the sentence (10 mo) before this could even be considered.

So perhaps, the "i" allows the option of getting out sooner, but doesn't mean it will automatically take place. Also, the mention of the "head of prison" was interesting. (Not sure how accurate that is.)

The Act actually says "the Commissioner or a parole board".

These are the same bodies mentioned for parole in a 'standard' sentence.

I've came to the conclusion the Oscar Radio issue is down to bandwidth. Maybe it just got too popular and had too many listeners because we've seen here that there were loads of users on this site today so it must be similar with that website too.

Well this is another snippet from the Guardian. I think it may be a while before we know anything definitive on the minimum amount he can serve.

The national prosecuting authority said Pistorius, 27, would be taken to prison immediately and eligible to be considered for parole after serving a third of his sentence. His uncle, Arnold Pistorius, indicated he would not appeal.

The Guardian missed out Uncle A going on about mosaics. I def heard that. Who was it who brought mosaics up at trial, Roux or Nel?

That could be it - news24 and 702 were also not working for me. Lot of interest in it. For all that most of us here are disappointed, there were apparently tears from the Pistorians and someone was commenting on CP's twitter how she couldn't stop weeping for him and Aimee. So I guess that they, like most of us, were geared up for no prison time.

I'm sure it was Nel when he was saying all the little pieces made a bigger picture.

That was Nel in his heads of argument likening the circumstantial evidence as a mosaic. That of you look at individual pieces of the evidence against OPP (Last P for Prisoner!) without the context of all the others you would not see his glaring guilt.

Uncle A is still playing this out I think.

Carl the twit is already tweeting things I doubt he even understands.

May God gives you grace so that your salvation might be built up and not broken - regardless of the circumstance.

Together in Christ we are STRONG, in Christ there can never be defeat.

There's something 'not quite the ticket', as we say, about Carl P. I thought it during the interviews he and Aimee did yesterday, with furrowed brow but no sincerity in his eyes, a facade, lost souls.
I don't think he or OP have an emotional centre (who am I). As Erickson would say this lack can result in a dangerous individual. JMO
