Ever since yesterday, even while we were watching the crazy Superbowl in which my hubby and I lost real bad in a pool bet -- darn the 49-ers -- Taylan was on my mind as the most likely suspect.

Last to contact her, the only person she actually met with in Turkey multiple times, the same person who instructed her to meet him at the site where her dead body was discovered -- too much of a coincidink.

I think you may be right. He likely thought she she was making passes at him online, that she flew all the way to Turkey on the pretext of taking pics but really was there to meet/be with him, and that when she rejected him at the ruins, and told him she was leaving to return home EARLY to her hubby and kids, he felt dissed and rejected. He may have even tried to kiss or touch her inappropriately, and she pushed him away. So he got angry and smashed her head in.

Then he staged the crime scene by pulling her pants down, knowing full well that that was a drug-infested, poverty-stricken area and hoped the police would buy the BS that a homeless vagrant killed her for her laptop and phone.

Do you think the blanket has his DNA on it?

Perhaps. What if they had plans to meet at that spot for a picnic? There was a blanket there. What if he thought this was romantic and she did not. Single blow to the head, perhaps with a rock...could fit into what we do know.

I don't know what his family history is, but we have plenty of stories of rich boy with an abandonment issue and anger problem loses his cool with a girl he's interested in and snaps stories in the US. ie the preppy killer, the story of Martha Morley in Greenwich to name two.

Poor woman. There are risks everywhere, but you have to be doubly cautious when alone in a strange country, especially one that may not view women as equal, or even entitled to walk around without an escort.

Turkey is not like that nowdays being mostly very cosmopolitan and moderate, but you can be sure a minority still feel that way.

She was an amateur photographer. It's stated that she was taking photography lessons at a city university. Still very odd to travel that far to an amazing city full of wonderful photo ops with a sole purpose of photography in mind, amateur or not and depend on your camera phone as your tool.

As a professional photographer myself I know that half the joy of photography besides actually capturing a great photo is knowing the ins and outs of your tool, manual settings for correct exposure and aperture to better manipulate your desired outcome, this is what you are taught in photography class...camera phones goes against this, mostly being all presets and auto everything.

I see necco covered pretty much what I wanted to say, but still I'll say I agree that phone photography is an entire branch of photography in and of itself. Sarai posted on several pictures on her account "taken with the Galaxy 3" - it's part of the art to use the phone camera and in some cases the phone picture editor to capture and enhance the images.

Seems like it. There is a discussion program in turkish CNN called "crime and evidence" where criminal experts, detectives, psychologists discuss some cases. I saw a short video from yesterday's program. They were talking about this case. They seemed to believe it was staged to look like it is a sexual assault from a random person. The video was only about a minute I have no information if the person speaking is involved in the case.

This is what I've have thought from the beginning of when her body was found. I thought it was staged to mislead the investigators.

I agree. I keep thinking someone put her in a place and arranged her to look like a random street crime by homeless/drug users. Depending on the validity of the translation, some of her jewelry may have been "buried"? but definitely left with her body. I'm certain a starving/impoverished/drug seeking individual would have taken what they could find of value.

I wonder where her jacket is.

Question about rape kits: is semen on the body enough of a reason to say her rape kit was positive? Or does there also have to be some sort of trauma to the vaginal area? By all accounts she was a very happily married woman, and wasn't in any way promiscuous. I would think semen on her body would be enough to say she was sexually assaulted. For that reason, I'm going to take the semen reports with a grain of salt until I get some sort of confirmation.

As little tidbits are released, it really looks less and less like a random attack. Takes me right back to where we were before. I hope they find that ipad and it isn't destroyed beyond the ability to be useful.

Unfortunately I can speak from experience about this although at the time I didn't ask a lot of questions. In addition to looking for vaginal/anal trauma they also comb/look for the perps pubic hair and any semen. Any of these in the genital area would indicate rape/sodomy. Semen on other parts of the body would not necessarily indicate rape.

I think her clothes were pulled down to mislead the cops. I also think that her iPad and phone were taken because they contained clues and not because it was a robbery. Perhaps this is why the cops reached out for gmail records. If the perp has the iPad he might have been able to delete emails but official records may have these saved. They also might be able to find the IP address of these emails.

Respectfully, there are an awful lot of coincidences in life. I'm not convinced that this wasn't a random act of violence by a complete stranger, possibly with the motive of robbery. She was a short and slender young woman traveling alone, and may have appeared an easy target. She may have been openly carrying her ipad, or been using it in the open at the time she was attacked. She also may have been lured as she seemed very trusting.

You know how in the email conversation on the 21st and Taylan says "I'll meet you there, I'm assuming you have wireless?"

Perhaps "there" wasn't her hostel, but "there" was that spot, because they had a planned picnic there. Perhaps he thought she would like it because it match her photography style.

Maybe the reference to wireless, was more in reference to if he would be able to be to get ahold of her for Skype. Sarai used Skype a lot , who's to say she didn't use it with him. There wouldn't be any record of it. Right?

He last emailed her at 1245. She could have been at a cafe on the bridge when she received it. (She was seen at one end of the bridge at 1210 then seen not far passed the other end in serkeci at 115. So perhaps she spent an hr at the bridge, taking photos and perhaps getting a coffee.) instead of emailing him she skypes him.

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I don't think it's odd at all.

I do a lot of travelling alone and the last time I was in Melbourne I had to wait several hours between check out and my flight - I stuck my luggage in storage at the central train station and went to the museum for the day, which turned out to be the highlight of my trip.

I think what is curious about this is that she hadn't yet packed. After 3 weeks it might have taken a bit of time (would have for me anyway).

Not that many in my own life, personally speaking. Obviously I can only speak from personal experience. Funny how all of these coincidences occur around the exact same person over and over again, on the exact day SS goes missing, at the exact time she's last seen. Way too much for me to pass off as innocent. At best Taylan knows a lot more than he's saying. Had this happened in the states, and not in a distant land most of us are unfamiliar with, we'd all be zeroing in the last person who was known to have had contact with her. I don't see why this should be any different, especially considering the circumstances.

This is the 2nd time I've heard about Steven e-mailing Taylan and saying "Where's my wife?". That (IMO) sounds accusatory. Instead of, "Have you heard from my wife?" Makes me think there was something in those email messages that led Steven to believe Taylan would KNOW what happened to his missing wife. Also, that Taylan then deleted that gmail account is bizarre as well. If his friend vanished on the day (and likely at the same time) he was supposed to be meeting up with her, why wouldn't he be doing everything he can to help this woman's family find their loved one? If he was a friend, and truly clueless as to her whereabouts, he would want her found too. Why not help? Why wait until the FBI tracks him down to even come forward at all?
