Psychological Behavioral Profiles are only a guide and one of the many tools utilized in a missing/murdered person investigations. Although the FBI BAU has gathered a lot of information & come a long way since the days of Depue, Douglas, and Ressler. An exact science, it is not, but a work in progress, imo..
Imo, available technology was ignored in the DTL, investigation due to faulty assumptions.. DNA, was available at the time to distinguish ethnicity of an unknown suspect. Simply wasn't considered by profilers...
