Perry has declared McClellan County a disaster.

You can see the truck was completely rocked, and the poor little guy is panicky, saying "I can't hear!" and "Dad, please get outta here!"

I feel sorry for her BUT she certainly seemed capable of taking control and giving instructions! That is a very good sign imo. Smart kid.

Truly a nightmare scenario for that community, but blessed to have the best emergency management team in the country.

The gas has been cut off to the town. His understanding is that the lines will be checked and re-checked before gas is cut back on. (I'm assuming he means natural gas as opposed to car gas?)

West is a small community.
This tragedy has touched practically everyone in that town.

I have no sound but watched the videos. I don't find it strange that they didn't connect it to the fertilizer plant. I was so shocked here, 70 miles away, that I didn't put the connection together. I can only imagine the shock that went on there and still does that it happened. It was an unbelievable sound, sucked in garage doors for pete's sakes.

Chief giving the most recent update.
"I can tell you with unwavering uncertainty that West did a great job of taking care of their own community."

Law enforcement officers were assisting, loading patients in patrol cars.
This is a longer term event.
We have no unmet need request from the local government.
We have demobilized some resources because of the outpouring of support.

I don't think we are going to get any numbers or anything.
They are just repeating what we already know...

Any questions about family members, the Red Cross is coordinating that information.
Any requests about missing should call Red Cross. 211.

The plant has been there since 1962. There was some complaint or compliance issue...and I didn't catch the rest.

KHOU just played part of PL's video from Youtube (about Andrea and the apartments).

Fox 4 is playing the youtube video now. Unbelievable.

Perry - Not comfortable giving a number on fatalities.
Until family are notified, it's appropriate to let search and rescue go forward without estimating.

Zak Covar answering questions about the plant.
The odor complaint in 2006, resolved with more permits.
They have no negative marks against their compliance.
No complaint since 2006.

Facility has been there since 1962.

Real time monitoring on air quality, with the rain there is nothing of health concern.

It's to soon to speculate on the cause of this was, or the products involved.

Significant damage, houses pushed off slabs.
Schools want to open on Monday, but Perry has told them they do it when they are ready.
Not sure how many were employed at the plant but of course in a small town it's going to make an impact.
Not sure what impact the possibility of lost jobs will have on the community.

We'll be asking for an emergency declaration.

KHOU just showed a line of people with umbrellas wrapped around a building waiting to give blood. Yay!!

Was water the appropriate response to this fire?
A lot of firefighters will use water to cool the surrounding area and other tanks.
Don't think we should be second guessing the first responders at this time, too soon to speculate.

Immediate needs with blood, can go to a local blood bank to donate blood.
All over the state, they can move the blood around to where it may be needed.

My OCD is not liking the guy next to Perry with the clashing shirt and bow tie.
