What she did was both infuriating and inexcusable.

I think lots of people have made the mistake of going to the wrong door, and I tend to buy that as happening here.

What I don’t buy, is her having no other option but to fire her weapon.

She wasn’t trapped, and she didn’t have to go any further. She could have backed away, and contacted law enforcement.

She didn’t.

Looking at the law here, and what constitutes murder vs manslaughter, I think I’d vote for manslaughter if I was on that jury.

If she walks, that would be absolutely outrageous. You don’t get to kill an innocent man in his own home.

Sorry doesn’t cut it.

ETA: I wouldn’t shed a tear if she were to be convicted of murder, but I just don’t see enough to get the jury there.
She intentionally shot an innocent man, who posed no threat to her, in his own home while he was eating ice cream. She testified that she intended to kill him when she shot him. How is that not murder?

This is a photo of her truck parked in the parking garage. It’s hard to tell if she was really in this area with no roof, especially with seeing the row of cars behind her vehicle that appears to be another area that goes up further. Hard to tell, from photos the garage seems confusing as it was reported to be.

From what I understand, the fourth floor is covered, but open on the sides while the third is completely enclosed.

While I can't know how you feel, I share your frustration and fear. Though I live in the northern Midwest, thing's aren't a whole lot better. I can't imagine anyone from our prosecutor's office taking a police officer to trial over a shooting like that of Botham Jean. The murder of Tamir Rice happened in our area and our prosecutor wasn't nearly as brave as Dallas County's. I have a certain level of responsibility and at a meeting two years ago told many members of the criminal justice system in my county they no longer have my support. They'll get it when they earn it.
More and more people are doing the same.

I hope things go well for Dallas and AG is convicted, but we learn to prepare ourselves for the worst these days. There's hope for change.
I am so frustrated, both as a tax payer and as a citizen, of police officers getting off scot-free when they act irresponsibly. We had an officer shoot a guy in the back of the head. This cop's behavior that day was so egregious, he went off all dirty harry, and did nothing by the book. Nevertheless, not a gdamn thing happened to him. He worked in multiple jurisdictions and his case bounced back and forth - who was he really working for that day? - with no agency taking responsibility for him. Ultimately this ahole cop retired and is enjoying his retirement courtesy of the taxpayers. The dead man's family received a multi-million dollar settlement courtesy of the taxpayers.

As a tax payer, I am really sick of the amount of money doled out to grieving families when cops go bad. Logic would tell you that if we instead put that money into better police training, we'd all be better off. Cops should be bonded and insured and take full responsibility for their own action when they go off the rails and taxpayers should never be on the hook.

Judge Rules Jury Can Consider Castle Doctrine In Amber Guyger Murder Trial

During a session, outside of the presence of the jury, defense attorneys and prosecutors argued over the language of the instructions the judge with provide to jurors. It was during this session that Judge Tammy Kemp ruled the jury can consider the Castle Doctrine during deliberations.

I just don't understand how the judge could allow the Castle Doctrine as a defense in this case. It just does not make sense--- just because she thought it was her home???
but it wasn't so it is absurd to allow this doctrine to be used as a defense----and if this woman should walk, the prosecution can't appeal the judge's decision-- (as far as i know)

I hope that we get a verdict today. And AG gets cuffed, and taken directly to jail, like all other criminals. The "Prima Donna" persona she affects each day while going to court, with her escort in blue, disgusts me. But, it is typical criminal behavior, enjoying her notoriety and attention. Narcissism to the Nth degree.

Well I guess that's fair. But it is odd to me that some would be more afffected by anger toward a killer than the actual execution of a human being.

I do find that sad.
Anger? I find it disturbing that people will be celebrating if she is convicted. I would most likely vote for manslaughter but would not be happy.

What is the possibility of her getting her job back if she is found not guilty? I think that is a scary possibility considering the police unions hold a lot of power.

I agree, and this bothers me too. However, someone earlier in the thread (I think it was Gitana) explained that the jury has to believe that it was reasonable that she thought it was her apt. If they don't believe it was reasonable, she can't use the Castle Doctrine. After all the elements the prosecution pointed out that made it NOT reasonable, hopefully they'll see it that way. It's still a big hurdle if you ask me.

I don't think so. She wasn't fired for the shooting itself. She was fired for the negative effect the shooting had on the morale of the dept. and the lack of confidence the public had in the police dept. because of her actions (or words to that effect.)

I find it disturbing that she hasn't spent the last year in jail, awaiting trial, for shooting an innocent man since she made the claim she intended to kill him.

I don't think so. After all, seriously, who wants a woman who admits she is such an Airhead that she goes into the wrong apartment, shoots a man, and completely forgot all of her training? Every single police protocol, out the window.

1. Double check address. Fail.
2. Call for backup. Fail
3. Provide first aid. Fail

She makes "Barney Fife" seem like Einstein.

Why do the lawyer commentators keep saying if she was convicted of manslaughter it would probably be reversed? TIA

Good morning, everyone.
Does deliberating start at 9:00? TIA

Edited: word swap

if it was the other way around you better believe he'd be in jail the entire year - even though his Mom is a very well known official in St Lucia or was ...this is so sad !
