I'm still concerned about other family members of the murderer. Some of them supported him in his efforts to 'deal with the situation'.

That's a scary thought....

:mad::mad::mad:

What have they been taught by example?
Heck even the older sister ended up siding with her father over her sister in the murder case. How messed up is this??
Are these family members safe on the streets?

(And I'm definitely not a fear mongerer or anti-Muslim, but this family is over the top!!)

This reminds me of one case here in Canada, where a wacko patriarch messed up the family (the Shafia family)...leading to multiple deaths and multiple aggressors. The patriarch (enabled by his second wife and son) drove (pushed?) a car containing his daughters and first wife into a canal.

WIth such a tenaciously hateful family, If be scared for my own life serving on that jury. They stalk and kill multiple times in support of this murderer. Why wouldn’t they exact revenge on this jury for their perceived “wrong”? I hope they are offered protection in the aftermath of sentencing! And Coty, we miss you and are ever grateful that he will not get away with this!
Coty and his brother were some of the very few who did not bully me le school. I have never forgotten that, he deserved better than this....

Live or die? Lawyers begin penalty phase for Ali Irsan, convicted of honor killings

July 27, 2018

"...Attorneys on both sides said the penalty phase could last as long as four weeks or more, as several family members and friends of Irsan are expected to be flown in to testify on his behalf....

Irsan has killed before, at least that’s what prosecutor Jon Stephenson told jurors Friday morning during opening statements of the punishment phase. Stephenson said the two murders he was convicted of Thursday were not his first.

Stephenson said Irsan also killed another son-in-law who fell in love with one of his other daughters. Stephenson said the daughter went outside the Muslim faith and angered Irsan. Stephenson said Irsan then bragged about the killing.

Prosecutors said Irsan defrauded the federal government and even stole from his own mosque. On the stand, a volunteer with a mosque in Conroe testified Irsan asked for assistance. He said the mosque does not give out cash directly to a family as assistance. He said Irsan instead claimed his wife was the landlord and the mosque paid money to the wife believing the money was paying for housing.

Prosecutors said Irsan was a threat in the past and also in the future...."

Wife testifies against husband in 'honor killings' trial punishment phase

JUL 31 2018

"...The woman who was once Ali Irsan’s child bride was on the stand all afternoon testifying against him. Shmou Alrawabdeh, who married Irsan when she was 14 and he was 34, is telling a horrific story of unbelievable abuse at the hands of her husband, who she says would beat her with his fist, with a board, would tie her hands and feet and tase her with a taser.

She also told jurors Irsan would regularly beat the children, mostly with a cane he kept when he went to the doctor, and she says he pretended to be disabled to fraudulently get social security and food stamps. She also said he received a $250,000 insurance settlement after a burglary scam and that he never had a job....

Even as horrific as all of that is, Shmou told jurors in 1999 her husband killed his oldest daughter Nassima's husband in their Montgomery County home and got away with it after he planted a gun in the man’s hand and claimed self defense..."

‘Honor killings’ defendant in Houston death penalty trial had shank & smuggled drugs in jail

July 30, 2018

"...Testifying In a blue dress and white sweater that were much different from the hijab she said her father made her wear, Nesreen Irsan spent for most of the afternoon in the second day of the punishment phase of the trial describing a violent home life. In this stage prosecutors call witnesses to testify about past crimes they say were committed by Irsan in order for the jury to determine whether he should be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

After jurors had been adjourned for the day, Irsan raised his voice to defense attorney Allen Tanner in open court and said, “Why don’t they just give her a gun and let her shoot me?”

After changing out of his black suit and into his jail uniform, he came back in the courtroom and shouted at Tanner.

“That girl wanted me dead before she ever left the house,” he said. “The best thing for a judge to do is to hand her a *advertiser censored* machine gun and let her shoot me.”...

Other abuses she said her father put the children through included beating their palms and soles of their feet or tying up his disabled daughter and rubbing jalapeño paste into her eyes while beating her...."

Jordanian patriarch facing death in Houston ‘honor killings’ praised 9/11 attacks
112x32px-LL-e8940098_grrr.gif

July 31, 2018

"A Jordanian immigrant facing the death penalty in Houston praised Osama bin Laden for the terror attacks on New York City on September 11, 2001, and said the violence was deserved, his daughter testified Tuesday.

Nesreen Irsan, 30, told jurors that her fervently Muslim father, 60-year-old Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan, was living in Conroe when the infamous attacks occurred and was happy that Americans had died. He also told his 12 children they should become suicide bombers if asked.

“He said it’s what America deserves,” the daughter said as she testified against the father who has been convicted of killing her husband and best friend in two “honor killings” in 2012.

Asked exactly what he said, Nesreen Irsan made a statement in Arabic, then explained: “It means God bless Osama bin Laden.”

The shocking statements came during Nesreen Irsan’s second day of testimony in the punishment phase of her father’s capital murder trial...."

Earlier killing detailed in Houston ‘honor killings’ death penalty case

August 1. 2018

"The sister of a man killed in 1999 testified Wednesday that long before two highly publicized “honor killings” shocked the Houston area, the man convicted of both those 2012 slayings showed up at her home brandishing a gun and threatened to kill her brother.

Alya Alidam testified in the punishment phase of the “honor killings” capital murder trial that her brother married a 17-year-old daughter of Jordanian immigrant Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan, 60, who was convicted by a Harris County jury last week of two separate “honor killings” that took place 11 months apart in 2012. Alidam said Irsan came to her home in 1999 desperate to find his daughter, and threatened to kill the whole family because her brother had eloped with the young girl.

Soon after that visit, Irsan fatally shot her brother, 29-year-old Amjad Alidam with a 12-gauge shotgun after invivting him to their home in east Montgomery County. Earlier, a neighbor recounted how Irsan told him he “got away with murder” by planting a gun on Alidam’s body, and then telling investigators his new son-in-law had been abusing his daughter and had threatened harm his family....

Irsan’s defense team is expected to put on mitigating evidence, including witnesses from Jordan who will talk about Irsan’s upbringing in the coming weeks."

Relatives of ‘honor killing’ victims fearful in wake of 2012 slayings

August 2, 2018

"Prosecutors called a series of witnesses Thursday who testified about the emotional aftermath of three separate killings by a Jordanian patriarch intent on restoring the family honor....

One of those slain was Irsan’s son-in-law, Coty Beavers, 28, and his twin brother told jurors Thursday that since his brother’s death, he takes a loaded gun with him everywhere, even to the shower. Another brother of the twins, who never wanted anything to do with guns before the fatal shooting, now sleeps with a gun every night to stave off fear.

And the brother of 30-year-old “honor killing” victim Gelareh Bagherzadeh, who was shot in the head outside her parents Galleria-area townhome in January 2012, took the stand and told jurors he wakes up in the night and checks around the house until his wife stops him.

“I’m always watching everywhere,” Ali Bagherzadeh said.

The testimony highlighted the anxiety, depression and other long term emotional damage family members and close friends have suffered as a result of the slayings, a toll prosecutors want the jury to consider when making a determination about whether Irsan should be put to death, or sentenced to life in prison without parole....

Cory Beavers, whose identical twin was killed by Irsan in 2012, testified, “I’m afraid to start a family because I think that someday I’m going to come home and find my kid or my wife dead.”

In addition to losing his twin brother, Cory Beavers had been dating Bagherzadeh, other murder victim.

Glancing at Irsan, he said he feared “that this is not going to stop with one brother.”

Jurors also heard from another witness — the close friend of 29-year-old Amjad Alidam, another son-in-law who Irsan fatally shot in 1999 — who said the defendant threatened his family members in Jordan when he confronted him about the killing....

Prosecutors will likely revisit an incident involving Irsan’s first wife Robin. An FBI agent testified Thursday that he handled a product tampering investigation after Robin Irsan was taken to the hospital in 1987 for ingesting a food supplement laced with cyanide.

The agent said he was looking into whether Robin had been poisoned by her husband. Law enforcement interviewed the defendant but the agent said that Irsan would not allow Robin to be interviewed. Officials concluded there was not sufficient evidence to prosecute."
