Officer Zack Owens was shot multiple times in his arm and hand. He also has glass shards in his eye. All or any of these injuries could end his career.

Thank you for risking your life for us on the daily.

Snoods did you ever make contact with your son? I know it had to be agonizing for you when you couldn't reach him.

I'm so sad this officer's career may end. So many of our officers across our nation are assaulted, and many are left with life altering injuries with their lives changed forever.

It's so tragic for they all will say all they ever want to be is a police officer. Yet, from so many serious assaults against them they are unable to continue doing what they love to do, and many are left totally disable.

So many give selflessly to the communities they love, and sacrifice so much in order to keep their community safe.

We all owe so much to each one because every day they get up once again.. put their uniforms on, kiss the ones they dearly love, goodbye... while never knowing if they will ever see them again.

It takes a totally selfless individual to put their lives on the line to protect all others, and they face the worst most dangerous individuals in our society.

I hear ya, but his career isn't necessarily over. His injuries likely mean his career path will now be different than it was, but it's not necessarily over. There are plenty of ways for him to continue to contribute even within law enforcement and public safety, and I have a feeling he will.

Speedy and smooth recovery to him.

I would like to know something of his motive, though. Was this a domestic incident gone out-of-control? Something personal? Agenda against a targeted group? Suicide by cop mission? Rage in general? Inspired by recent shootings or unrelated? What was he doing?

Were there signs that people around him were concerned about? Does he have a history of violence? Criminal history? Health issues?

I do think that is useful information for the public to have. But I agree that we don't need to publicize his name beyond the bare minimum of public record.

@Snoods if your son is like mine, call him from a friend's phone. Sometimes mine is "too busy" to talk to "Mom". I once called him from my friend's phone, he picked it up immediately. And he will never hear the end of that. He is much better now.

7 Killed by Gunman After Texas Traffic Stop Shooting Rampage
At least eight people are dead in West Texas after a man stopped by state troopers for failing to signal a left turn opened fire and fled, shooting more than 20 people as he drove before being killed by officers outside a movie theater, authorities said.

The number of deceased increased Sunday morning from five to seven, an Odessa police spokesman confirmed. The suspected gunman was shot and killed by police on Saturday.

Additional details are expected to be announced at a 12 p.m. news conference at the University of Texas Permian Basin campus. It will be livestreamed at the top of this article.

That can work both ways. A friend was in a long meeting where he couldn’t answer or even look at his phone. His phone kept vibrating, someone was sending a lot of text messages. When the meeting ended he read the messages from his daughter. She was hiding in the back of a restaurant during the Paris terrorist attack.

The photo (which is too dark to make out anything, really) is from a street they crossed, where police say a mail carrier was shot and her mail truck hijacked by the suspect.

The photo (which is too dark to make out anything, really) is from a street they crossed, where police say a mail carrier was shot and her mail truck hijacked by the suspect.

That was some good reporting by him. After listening to the interview linked a little ways back of the woman who saw him face to face and avoided him, he was driving around and shooting at people in a lot of locations. Even after she evaded him, she looked back and saw his car again, sitting at a stoplight. Police hadn't caught up with him and he was still driving the gold vehicle.
