There was a lady who used to come into where I worked with her son, he was 4 and looked about 2 and was in a wheelchair and he looked like this boy. i am not saying it was him, but the diabilites of the boy i saw reminded me of theis unidentified boy. I don't know what was wrong with the boy, I of course never asked her. he def. does not resemble a healthy child to me. Whoever posted that they were going to contact LE about him, please keep us posted.

Cool about your son. Mine was 9lbs 22in.

Mine was 8lbs 4oz... 21 1/2 inches. His name is Nicholas.
My 9 pounder (Nathan) came August 9, 2006.. He was 9lbs 3oz.

Ok, sorry for hijacking this thread...:innocent:

I'm in the Houston area and have never heard this story. :(

God Bless this boy. :( I hope his identity is discovered soon.

Thanks Barb! You rock!

Do we have any WS'rs here in the social services or medical field near the Houston area? Is there any way we can assist the detective in this area with medical privacy laws?

A medical professional treated this beautiful boy and just hasn't seen he is listed as a doe.

Let's be his Christmas miracle.

How about going into the Yahoo chat rooms in Huston and asking around to see if any nurses are ever in there. You could post a short message in all of the Huston rooms! It's just a thought ;)

 Great ideas from everyone. I'm going to check in to some online chatrooms tomorrow and see what I can find for nurses in that area. I have e-mailed the detective with some info, but he told me he would be on weekend shift, so not to expect to hear from him until this weekend. Hopefully, I will. I have a few questions for him and to see what info we might be able to get from him that the newspapers didn't put out.

Am in middle of doing search of newspaper archives and not finding much. Not only was it when Elizabeth Smart was found, it was the week before we bombed Iraq, lots of political stuff going on and the Laci Peterson search was in full swing. Pool little Beloved Doe was just barely mentioned. Have only found 4 article in last 5 years.

I am going to write a letter tomorrow to send to some news stations about this story. Anyone willing to read it over and edit it for me? I'm not a professional writer :chicken: and would sure like some input.

Thanks to all - you are all FABULOUS !!!! You ROCK !!! :woohoo:

I am at your service-I will be offline for a few days starting tomorrow, but if I can help you in any way I am happy to! I have written a few trying to stir up case interest...

Thank you so much !! Here's the beginning of what I got. I wanted to make a point of how little attention he has received, and why. And then to tell his story. I thought I could let you see this and you could give me input on were to go, if I was on the right track, etc. I can use all the help I can get as I am brand new to this!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In March 2003, America stood on the brink of war with Iraq. Television and newspapers were covered with the news of 100,000 troops standing by in nearby Kuwait. Americans waited with baited breath.

Laci Peterson was missing and daily news coverage of the search for her held many Americans captive. Scott Peterson, her husband, was now the prime suspect in her disappearance. The fact that Laci had been 8 months pregnant when she disappeared on Christmas Eve, 2002 made this story all the more poignant and captured viewers hearts.

On March 12, 2003, a miracle happened. Fifteen year old Elizabeth Smart, kidnapped from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah the previous summer, was found alive. The news outlets went wild, and for good reason. Finally, some good news. Elizabeth was reportedly sighted by 2 good Samaritans and found with her kidnappers in downtown Sandy, Utah, not too far from her home.

With all this news going on in America, viewers were captivated and glued to their TV’s. Newspapers were full of stories on a variety of interests.

And yet, in the early morning hours of March 13, 2003, another drama was playing out in Houston, Texas. Sometime after 4am, someone placed the body of a small boy in a southeast side dumpster, located in an apartment complex and then left the scene. The boy’s body was discovered by a maintenance man who saw the red and white plaid bag which the boy was inside and went to retrieve it.

The young boy originally appeared to be between 1 and 2 years old. He was extremely malnourished and dehydrated. Due to his size and the fact that he was wearing a diaper, his age was originally estimated very young. Later examination found that his molar teeth had come in and his age was revised to be between 4 and 5 years old. And yet he was only approximately 30 inches long and 21 pounds when discovered.

Named Beloved Doe …………………………etc., etc., etc...

Okay, that's just a quick beginning. All input and criticism is welcome !!! NEED HELP !!!!

I think you have a lovely writing style...these are some suggestions for changing it up a little bit..

Thank you, and I love the way you changed it up. I'll finish it up later on this eve and send it out, see what happens.

I sent the detective the info on the genetic syndrome and his response today was "that is remarkable..I will check on it......." So..thanks everyone, I think you made an impression. I offered to do any research on who he might contact for testing, referrals, etc., so we'll see.

Better yet...Allnurses.com. Its a forum for nurses, and you can talk to nurses by states. It gets about as much traffic as websleuths. Ill ask a question and get an answer in less than an hour.

Thanks, I went online there tonight and looked around. Couldn't quite figure out where to post it in. Probably need to do a bunch more searching before I figure it out. Anyone have any time to help me with this part? If not, I'll get to it sometime next week.

Working on getting the letters finished up, then find addresses, e-mails, etc to send them to. I think I saw where they might be posted here on websleuths. I'll look for that tomorrow. I'm somewhat of a night owl most of the time, but winding down tonight - lol

Maybe try starting with Nursing News http://allnurses.com/forums/f195/

and then over in Introductions and Greetings http://allnurses.com/forums/f192/

It's a relatively small forum, and I think that word would spread pretty fast. I couldn't locate a Houston forum, but there might be one. I can try to do it later this weekend if you don't have time (maybe use my "nurse cred" and former Houstonian status!?!?).

I would love to take you up on this offer if you don't mind ? I have lots of time, and will be glad to watch the site and pitch in, but have no nursing background, etc. I think if you have "nurse creds", it will certainly help out. Is that okay?

Thanks so much !!

Sure, I'll try and get it done later tonite - also found the Texas nsg area so that will help!

eta: okay, posted in a couple of places over there - hope it's okay and I didn't break any rules! Will let you guys know what (if any) discussion is generated!

Damn - they pulled my posts already over at allnurses.com. Must have been some TOS violation or something? Weird.

Too bad - it would have been some good exposure for this little dude.

Well, you sure tried, and I thank you so much for that !!

And DANG they're fast !!!

Here's the final letter, unless someone has something they think we should change, add, delete, etc. I even sent it to the detective, and he liked it. I'll start sending it out day after Christmas unless I hear otherwise from someone. Thanks everyone, and Merry Christmas !!!

A tragedy in Houston

In the early morning hours of March 13, 2003, someone placed the body of a small boy in a southeast side dumpster located in an apartment complex in Houston and left the scene. The boy’s body was discovered by a maintenance man who saw the red and plaid bag containing his body, and retrieved it from the dumpster.

The young boy originally appeared to be between 1 and 2 years old. He was extremely malnourished and dehydrated. Due to his size and the fact that he was wearing a diaper, his age was originally estimated in the toddler years. Later examination found that his molar teeth had come in and his age was revised to be between 4 and 5 years old. And yet he was only approximately 30 inches long and 21 pounds when discovered.

Police investigators and child advocates worked tirelessly to identify this young child. Few, if any clues were left behind. Beloved Doe, as he was nicknamed by the investigators that came to care for him, remains unidentified to this day.

Damn - they pulled my posts already over at allnurses.com. Must have been some TOS violation or something? Weird.

Too bad - it would have been some good exposure for this little dude.

Would they have pulled it due to patient confidentiality? Even though he is a John Doe, maybe the site was unsure of how to go about it..
I would think his physical characteristics would stand out in people's minds and especially with the prior hospital treatment from scars and such.
It may be possible he had been receiving care in another state or another area of Texas, and his family moved.
Around the area where he was found. If anyone knows anyone who is bilingual and or Spanish who can help out asking people if they've seen this boy. If you can find someone who is Spanish, i would think that would help in case people are afraid to talk if they don't have legal status. (as opposed to talking with a white person who is bilingual) With his health, he would stand out apart from healthy children...

Nah, nothing to do with confidentiality. All of this information has been released to the public by LE and if a health care provider had been in contact with this boy or his family he/she could report directly to LE. I think they were more concerned with the appropriateness of the content to thir particular forum, as it is not really a "nursing related" issue.

It would seem that the most appropriate thing to do is for LE to release a bulletin to local hospitals, health departments, and WIC offices. Like people have said, this child would have been memorable due to his unusual appearance.
