Why is this one on indefinite hold? Was the DNA degraded so much current extraction processes can't identify markers?

My understanding is that the people responsible for the case shifted it to another DNA service. I'm not certain which one, but if there is an identification in the future, we'll probably find out.

EDIT: I don't have a link, but I recall reading something from the DNA Doe Project itself that suggested this. I don't know if it's on their website or on Facebook or where, but it's out there. Heck, it's probably linked a few pages back on this thread, that's probably where I read it.

EDIT2: Yeah, go back a page or two; it's discussed.

I bet they gave it to Othram since their HQ is nearby in the Woodlands.

NCMEC has released a new recon of Swimsuit Boy

Candy Man Victim: New Clues in Serial Killer Mystery

I follow the Candy Man murders closely. My mom knew a victim and an accomplice in the case. I let her take a look at the new image but she doesn't recognize the boy. She's passing it on to friends who were there at the same time.

I think the best hope is a DNA match, if the DNA is still viable.

According to dna doe, it's being worked on by another team

"Status: This is no longer a DDP case and is being worked by another provider of investigative genetic genealogy"

“John Doe’s” DNA has been entered into national DNA databases, including CODIS, and investigators have been actively looking for a match since 2005, per NCMEC. They have also attempted genetic genealogy, but have not gotten any leads.

“We remain hopeful that this young man’s family and friends are still looking for him,” said Carol Schweitzer, supervisor of NCMEC’s Forensic Services Unit.

"He may have siblings, cousins, classmates, neighbors, or friends who have always wondered what happened to him,” Schweitzer added. “This young man’s friends and classmates would be in their late 60s to early 70s and we hope that this new imagery reaches them and helps bring in that one single lead needed to resolve this case.”

Since the new sketch was released <modsnip: discussing social media comments> he could be either Steven Lewis Ericson or Mitchell Weiser...I know these names are not new to our search...was curious if either were in his rule-outs list?
Weiser is on the rule-out list, but Ericson isn't. I hope LE looks into that possibility.

Thank you, many of these names are repeatedly suggested, it will be nice to let others know of who has been ruled out already
