There's two different pics that are being talked about. One has been publicly released, one hasn't. I attached the one we've seen. It shows Sherry smiling and looking happy, with her hair in the wing-style cut she had when she died. I'm not sure when the exact date was, but it's the closest pic we have to her death, I assume sometime between March - October 1980? I may be wrong. I'm not sure if it was before or after she ran away from Minnesota. Then, the one we haven't seen and that LE doesn't want released was sent to the letter to her parents from Denver. That's the one that was described as her having big hair and heavy eyeliner.

I suspect the two stories became conflated at some point.

I am going to have to listen to some of the previous podcasts again for clarification. I find it very fascinating if both "Cathy" and Sherry where both said to have been visiting prison units at that time, especially if it eludes to two separate eye witnesses saying that both "Cathy" and Sherry claimed they were heading to Ellis.

I believe that this pic was taken in Minnesota mainly because of the Hamm's Beer mural. I guess Hamm's must have given those huge murals away or sold them for real cheap. Our neighbor's had one in their basement.

I find it fascinating that the stories are pretty much alike. Except there really is not proof beyond a photo that the Cathleen story is even true. Anyone can make a story up...They said that Cathleen wore the same clothes as WCJD, walked the same way, carried her shoes the same way, had the same hair (even though you can't tell from the picture) The person submitting the photo could literally be Cathleen herself and made up the story to get a few webclicks.

The Cathleen story did not emerge until after the "Kitty" story fell to the wayside. Kitty eventually emerged in real life and said, "That's not me".

I just re-listened to a Trail Went Cold segment from about a year ago. The narrator also claimed that "Cathy" was 14. That's mighty eerily specific....

I found this in the article that was on Carl K page..In it, it said...
"He said a family member told him Sherri wrote one letter to her mother — postmarked from Denver — in August 1980. “She said, ‘You won’t hear from me until I’m at least 18 or 21,’ ” he said. “She was upset she was being incarcerated.”

Here is a link to the entire article

Hmmmm.....if thats the case, I wonder if she was trying to travel to the prison in order to try and convince someone of not indicating her in a crime?

I also wonder if she was hunted down by someone who knew her involvement and saw her as too much of a liability.

Currently, I have a couple of theories. Basically:

1. She fought off a sexual advance (probably while hitchhiking) that turned violent
2. She was hunted down by someone that knew her and refused to go with them (if she was given the choice)
3. She was killed for knowing too much or being a loose end in a crime (with the incarceration information being a potential lead)

Just a comment. I just cannot comprehend what drives a person to kill especially young girls. Glad DNA is catching up with some perpetrators. Is it something wrong with the brain? I know upbringing, environment, past violence and genetics add to the mix.

The photo shows her nicely dressed with very dramatically blow-dried hair (think David Lee Roth circa 1978) and heavy eyeliner, like she was prepared for a night on the town.

Source: Carl K. (WWWCJD FB, new Sherry's photo post)

I think the photo description in general is suspicious

Indeed. Long time lurker here btw and long time (5yrs>) follower of this case in particular and recent revelations have made me boil inside.

Rest in Peace Sherry, those who cared for you.....your family and fellow close loved ones....the LE working tirelessly on your case (and still keeping it a 'warm' case after four decades!)....and the thousands, if not tens of thousands across the world who gave their support, brought attention and tried to help through the power of the internet....well we all now know your name and have some closure.

Now it's time to <modsnip> bring them to account and throw the book at them!!!!

I believe the "fascination" with trucks in this case is trying to justify the circumstances that she faced.
Yes, I agree..there's a tendency to make things complicated. Nobody wants to see this ugly, if that makes sense..Sorry; if not, I'm afraid that I'm getting sick and a little out of it..

Can we discuss the language used in the article about Det Bean going out of state to interview a "POI or witness"? This is almost making me wonder if someone came forward about witnessing her murder or possibly being forced to participate it. I don't think that is likely to be what happened, but just a thought - would appreciate input on this.

This is all I could find:

Bean, the detective, said Thursday that officers plan to travel out of state to interview either a witness or a person of interest in Sherri’s rape and murder, but he would not specify which state.

I would like to think they have a POI, but my hunch is they may have witnesses who knew Sherry's whereabouts. JMO

I would like to find more info than this statement.

It could be someone known to have had contact with her during the critical timeframe, who has been convicted of S.A.

amateur opinion and speculation

You’re right that it has to be something in Sherry’s history that led to this POI, not something in the WCJD investigation.
I wonder if the PI turned up something that didn’t match up with what we now know were her final movements. Like maybe someone told him that they’d last seen her after Nov 1980, or something like that.
That’s a really interesting possibility!

Do we know anything about the Hitchin' Post? It is gone now, right? But in it's day. What type of place was it? Did it have any type of reputation? Does anyone know?

The Hitchin Post is still there, as well as the diner, but the diner has been remodeled.

The South End Gulf Station is now a vacant lot adjacent to a church that was not there in 1980. The church owns that vacant lot, as well as the property on which the church stands.

I've just spent the last 10 minutes searching for posts from older threads on WCJD/Sherry as I remember reading a series of posts from somebody who claimed to work there. I found them, this woman claimed to have worked there in 2000 and to sum up her descriptions and put it simply, it was a very shady place. Here's the first of her series of posts.

Thank you Carl & muxxypup.

Looking on Google. I imagine this was less "built up" in 1980.....
