A man accused in the killing of a Pascagoula woman in Richardson, Texas, is set to go to trial on a murder charge on Sept. 11 in Collin County, Texas, court records show.

Jason Lowe, 27, is accused in the May 2016 slaying of Jessie Bardwell. Lowe was Bardwell’s boyfriend.

Bardwell, 27, had moved to Richardson, a suburb north of Dallas, in December 2015 to live with Lowe. Her family reported her missing May 9, 2016, after they did not hear from her on Mother’s Day.

Lowe was arrested on a charge murder in Bardwell’s death before her body was found wrapped in blue sheet with a red strap tied around it.

Per Collin County court records Jason Lowe is scheduled for a jury trial on Monday, September 11th, 2017 @ 0900

Going to Texas for the trial of the man accused of murdering his daughter isn’t something Bardwell wants to do. But, he said he has to go.

“I know way too much, and I’ve read way too much,” Bardwell said. “But, I felt like it’s my responsibility as her dad to do that.”

This day makes it even harder to take.

“Today,” Bardwell said through tears, “would have been Jessie’s 29th birthday.”

Collin County prosecutors can't say how or why Jessie Bardwell died last year. But one thing they do believe is that her boyfriend killed her.

"He killed her. He concealed her. And he dumped her," prosecutor Wes Wynne said in opening statements Wednesday.

According to testimony Wednesday, Bardwell moved from Alabama to Texas to live with Lowe sometime after Christmas 2015. But after the move, Bardwell, who had always been close with her family in Mississippi and contacted them daily, began calling less and less.

Bardwell told jurors that he worried a lot about his daughter after she moved to Texas, and that his anxiety grew deeper when he could never talk to her. He told jurors: "I beat myself up every day for not coming out here and checking on Jessie -- every minute, every day."

Collin County prosecutors will continue to present evidence Monday against a Richardson man accused of killing his girlfriend.

Jason Lowe, 28, is charged with murder in the death of Jessie Bardwell. Her decomposed body was found in rural Farmersville on May 19, 2016. If convicted, Lowe faces up to life in prison. He is also eligible for parole.
After three days of testimony, here are some highlights:

1) Key dates: Bardwell and Lowe were last seen together May 1, 2016, by a Corinth couple who had asked the pair to house-sit. Bardwell and Lowe weren't at the house when the couple's son came by on the evening of May 4 nor when the couple returned from out of town the following day.
On May 8, police showed up at Lowe's Richardson apartment to do a welfare check on Bardwell at her parents' request. Lowe told police she left that morning in her Acura SUV and he didn't know where she was. He also suggested to police she went shopping or jogging. But Lowe and Bardwell had sold her Acura on April 19.
On May 9 or May 10, a Farmersville man saw a man in a black Audi on a neighbor's property. He recorded the license plate number for the mud-covered Audi as it sped away from the property where Bardwell's remains were found more than a week later. The plate number matched Lowe's Audi.

2) Cause of death: Dr. Lynn Salzberger concluded Bardwell died of homicidal violence. She testified the body was too decomposed to identify specific injuries. She used findings in the police investigation to bolster her ruling. Defects found on the arm, the neck and the torso could have been injuries, Salzberger said. But the areas also could have been damaged by insects or animals, she said. She noted the hyoid bone in the neck was missing. Again, she couldn't say why. A broken hyoid bone is often a sign of strangulation.
The defense suggested during opening statements that what happened to Bardwell was "a tragedy, not murder." The defense asked Salzberger about accidental injuries, such as a closed head injury. Salzberger said the body was too decomposed to detect that sort of injury. She also noted that a person usually calls 911 or goes to the hospital if someone has sustained a serious head injury.

3) The drug factor: Toxicology results on Bardwell showed no prescription or illicit drugs. But under questioning from the defense, Salzberger said those tests look for the most common drugs, not every drug. Among those that weren't tested for were LSD, psilocybin mushrooms and GHB, a date rape drug. Salzberger testified family or friends will typically alert authorities to suspected drug use so extra tests can be run.
A court filing that has not yet been introduced at trial states Lowe was using methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and marijuana shortly before his arrest. Evidence suggests he was manufacturing and distributing marijuana or THC, the document states. Lowe was also known to use Xanax and steroids/testosterone without valid prescriptions, the documents state.

4) Lack of DNA: Richardson police were first alerted to the possibility of foul play when they detected the odor of decaying flesh in the Audi Q5 parked in Lowe's apartment garage. It's believed Bardwell's body had ben in the vehicle. Of the four samples police sent for further testing, though, only one tested positive for blood. None of the four samples was of sufficient quality to obtain DNA.
t's not clear whether further tests sought by prosecutors would have provided DNA evidence. Prosecutors asked Salzberger whether DNA could be obtained from decomposition fluid. The retired medical examiner testified that she'd never done that or heard of that being done.
5) Other women: Evidence not yet introduced at trial indicates that Lowe had been dating other women while living with Bardwell and was active on a dating website, according to court documents. He also has a history of assault against women. Documents cite examples from women he dated of his pushing, smothering or slamming them against the wall. In one instance, he squeezed a woman's neck until she lost consciousness, documents say.
Just after 6 a.m. May 7, Denton police were called to a wreck near the University of North Texas. Lowe told the officer he had been checking emails when he overcorrected while driving his Infinity and struck another vehicle. The officer testified Friday that Lowe told him he had been visiting a female friend who lived nearby.
6) Missing items: Several items found near Bardwell's body, including a red blanket, brown towel and ratchet straps, were linked to the Corinth house-sitting job. Also near the body were white trash bags, black trash bags and clear plastic gloves. Those items probably came from the Corinth home as well. Bardwell's body was found wrapped in a blue fitted sheet. A matching flat sheet was found in the linen closet at the Corinth home.
