This was just last week (4/22) so when did they see a 'stranger' using her card at BB to buy a video? :waitasec:

ETA..I just saw from other thread (please combine) it was done on 4/7..Aunt discovered it from bank statement & told LE..They got the video from BB & showed it to family..Do I have this right? TIA

BBM -

That's what I'm getting out of this thread & watching JVM....I'm still perplexed about the uncle saying on his call into KVET radio station that there was no CC use (see my post#38 in this thread dated 4/28) when they supposedly knew by 4/28 the CC was used  ......I didn't know at the time it was Acevedo (police chief) on the KVET morning show -- NEhoo, maybe he was just trying to put him on the spot...IDK.

Also don't know if this is related, but Acevedo may have been distracted w/ his attempt to get hired as Dallas PD chief and was ignoring this case....Dallas didn't hire him so now maybe he'll get a handle on this case now....it seems out of control.

When Detective Scott was previously quoted as saying there was "some indication" that Julie may have wanted to withdraw contact, I hope they weren’t basing that solely on any text messages, posts from Julie’s cell to her myspace, and husband’s account. As we know, texts and posts from her cell don’t necessarily mean they were from Julie.

COOPER: Well, now, Mike, I`ve to give you a little bit of background on this. I spoke with Julie`s best friend today...

BROOKS: Yes.

COOPER: ... which is Natasha. And Natasha and Amber. And Natasha said, you know, "I heard from Amber that she was with this guy James. So then I called Julie. Julie did not answer the phone. And she sent me a text message, saying, `I don`t feel like talking right now. What`s up?` And she says, `What`s going on?` She says, `I met this guy named James.` And she says, `What James? What are you talking about?` She says, `I`ve never heard of a James`."

S. SOTO: So these are text messages. These are text messages.

[snipped]

S. SOTO: There was a friend of hers that came forward several days after we reported her missing, saying that she held back some information, and she wanted to let us know what it was.

So she called -- I talked to her on the phone, and she said, "I need to let you know something very important. Julie texted me and said that she met some guy named James who is a Web designer, who bought a new house in Colorado, and `he`s taking me away for the weekend to show me a good time`."

http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1004/29/ijvm.01.html

For those that were speculating which friend would have told about James.

She names her up there ^^^^. JFYI. If we should have the reason to ever discuss her then I am gently reminding everyone that since she's not a "player" we shouldn't post her surname or link to her social networking pages because of TOS. I'm not a Mod...LOL----just giving a heads up so no one gets in trouble...just in case :)

Ok I'm sure this has been speculated on but I want to say something. I stumbled upon this case on JVM the other nite too. I live in San Antonio so its of interest since Austin isn't that far away, and its just a strange case. First of all the first time I saw the fam on JVM they didn't say anything about the BB purchase or the friends texts allegedly from Julie etc. These are really important facts to get out ASAP...correct me if I am wrong but I didn't hear them mention it until the next day. Thats weird. The ex..I'm not so sure he is lying about everything. He doesn't seem too with it. I'm not trying to be mean but he just isn't that bright. That doesn't mean he isn't capable but I don't get that vibe from him. Then again...who knows? Also...it could be possible she met this guy on the internet and met up with foul play (God forbid) or just ran away to breathe. Its hard being a single mom and then to have deal with divorce and it seems like a family that has alot of control in her life maybe she met someone who offered her something more. Some people just do things sometimes that are beyond explanation. I also am wondering if Austin PD just knows more than they are saying and maybe are not telling the family as maybe what they know shows Julie is gone on her own free will. Just a thought. I could be wrong on all counts. Its a really weird story thats for sure.

In my previous posts on this thread, I mentioned that I see "control" issues with Julie's mother and aunt. The exchange about the video purchase last night was yet another indicator of how Julie's mother seems to want full control over family members. Soto calls it "closeness", but I get the feeling that Julie was being smothered and needed some space.

Were there ever times when Julie had time for herself, or time spent alone with her husband and child, or was everything always a "family affair"? It almost sounds to me like Soto was a "tour guide" for the family and that everyone did everything together all the time. Weird.

Here's the conversation about the video from last night's JVM show:

VELEZ-MITCHELL: OK. So that was a shocker. What did the woman buy? Well, the PG movie "Spiderwick Chronicles." And we actually went out and rented it today. It`s from Paramount Pictures. Here it is.

Now look at it. It`s a 2008 fantasy film targeted at school-aged children. What a bizarre choice. The card was used on April 7. The missing woman`s mother was shown this video on April 20 by police.

Back to the mother, Sandra Soto.

What do you make of the purchase of a children`s video, and what did police tell you about the video when they were showing it to you?

S. SOTO: They asked me, does Julie like to watch movies? I said yes. We all like to watch movies. You know, we all go out and buy movies just because we`re such a big family that, you know, it`s better if we just buy the movies and watch it at home than for all of us to go to the movie theater and watch it at the movie theater. That`s just the way we are. We`re close that way.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Would she watch a movie like this? I mean, she wasn`t the person purchasing it. Somebody else was who you could not identify.

S. SOTO: I don`t know. You know, she has children`s movies. She has action movies. She has all kinds of movies in her -- in her library.

Yes I agree on ur post Bette..its all just so weird. I am curious though...whats ur take on the ex or soon to be ex husband?

Search For Missing Mom Leads Nowhere

CNN) -- Police in Austin, Texas, say they are stymied in their search for Julie Ann Gonzalez, a young mother who was last seen March 26 by her estranged husband.

There's no physical evidence to indicate that the 21-year-old was a victim of foul play, police say. And, without probable cause they can't search her abandoned car or look at her phone records.

"The case is still open and ongoing, but the Austin Police Department can assure everyone that the case is being investigated to the extent allowed by law," spokeswoman Anna Sabana said in an e-mail.
.....................................
Gonzalez has not accessed her bank account. But, her mother said, someone used her credit card to purchase the movie "The Spiderwick Chronicles" at a Best Buy store in Austin.

ok - didn't mom say that she didn't know if Julie's CC was used in Austin?

Or is this misinformed/misprinted reporting?

Haven't seen or heard enough from him to form an opinion just yet. If Julie's mother and aunt have always been controlling and meddlesome, I doubt that the marriage ever had a chance to succeed. Clearly, Julie's family doesn't like the guy, but, of course, their daughter/niece is practically perfect in every way ;)

I would find it amazing if the husband is the culprit and went on TV offering to take a LD etc...I can't recall ever seeing that happen before...usually they say their lawyers recommend that they do not take them, etc...not sure he even had a lawyer's advice at that point? Of course he might be the one, but that would make a weird case even weirder...IMO

Thats what I was remembering. On the first interview I saw them on nobody said anything about the best buy purchase. They did say I thought that it hadn't been used.

"Gonzalez has not accessed her bank account. But, her mother said, someone used her credit card to purchase the movie "The Spiderwick Chronicles" at a Best Buy store in Austin."

I just did a store locator search and found 4 Best Buys in Austin. It shouldn't be too difficult to find out exactly where the purchase was made. jmo

I live in Austin, Texas and I do watch some news and have heard nothing about this case. It caught my eye on this site because the thread said missing from Austin... I will second what was said about our police chief, he was busy trying to get the Dallas job, so he could use that to get his actual goal job in L.A. He is from Calif., and hasn't purchased a home here... I say, don't let the door hit you in the *advertiser censored** Art...

AUSTIN, Texas (CBS) Police are continuing to search for missing Texas mom Julie Ann Gonzalez. Gonzalez disappeared over a month ago, but with very little evidence and a lack of new leads many questions remain unanswered.

According to the Austin Police Department's spokeswoman Anna Sabana, the case is still open and being investigated.

I would find it amazing if the husband is the culprit and went on TV offering to take a LD etc...I can't recall ever seeing that happen before...usually they say their lawyers recommend that they do not take them, etc...not sure he even had a lawyer's advice at that point? I agree cluciano. There is much more to this than meets the eye IMHO.
I have seen ex's or soon to be ex's even those that have been called sociopath's and I can't recall a single one that has responsed in interview as Julie's estranged (he signed papers) Husband.

I'm reserving my opinion because, to be honest I think Julie is endangered but I am not so sure that this time it's going to be the estranged Husband. I just don't know, but his interviews don't have the right "feel" for someone who is trying to cover his tracks. I could be very wrong. I don't think he was lawyered up when he did those interviews. I don't think he really needs one in this case unless he becomes a POI or Suspect. All JMHO.

I would love to know where that phone pinged when the supposed messages from Julie were sent.

Here is a timeline I put together as best I could from articles and transcripts. Corrections welcome.

Austin, TX; Travis County
Police Department: Austin Police Department (APD)

Julie Ann Gonzalez, Missing since Friday, Mar 26, 2010

George de la Cruz (Julie’s estranged husband)

May 22, 2009
Julie and George got married

Jan 2010
Julie left George. George attempted suicide by taking over-the-counter pills (confirmed by George on JVM). According to Julie’s aunt Dora, George left a suicide note in their daughters diaper bag, called Julie, and told her, “Look in the bag, I left something for you.”

~Mar 5, 2010
Julie purchase a car 3 weeks before she went missing

Mar 25, 2010
According to Julie’s aunt, she and Julie spoke and Julie said her plans for the next day (Friday) included paying the babysitter and going to the courthouse to pay to get George served with divorce papers, because he would not voluntarily sign them

Mar 25, 2010 (Friday)
Note: Julie had Fridays off from work.

Morning
Julie went to George’s home to pick up their two-year-old daughter. "We share. It is routine for her to come in the mornings to drop off, and come back the next day," George said. George said Julie was acting strangely when she came to his house. "She looked completely different. She kind of looked sad. She was down. She was out of it, not there. Not concentrating," De La Cruz said.

“And she came in, and like I said, I saw her. She was different. Like I said, I’ve known her for at least four years, so I know when there`s something wrong with her. And I tried talking to her. I asked the question what’s wrong. She said, "Well, I’m OK, don’t worry about it." So I let it go. I said, "Here’s Layla’s stuff. Everything’s there. Do you want to go ahead and check at it to make sure that everything is there so you can take her?" That’s when she told me, "Well, you know what? I’ve got plans this weekend. Can you please take care of her?" I’m like, yes. And I said, "So when are you going to come pick her up?" "I’ll let you know. I’ll call you whenever I want her." I said, "Well, is it going to be this weekend?" She said yes.

Julie went missing.

12:43PM
Per Julie’s aunt Dora, Julie posted a message on either Myspace or Facebook that said, "I`m running away."

Date?
After Julie went missing, her MySpace page was updated by a mobile phone user. The posts read "I wanted to run away" and "I'm sick of the BS in my life."

According to Julie’s mother, there was a friend of Julie’s that came forward several days after they reported her missing, saying that she held back some information, and she wanted to let them know what it was. She said, "I need to let you know something very important. Julie texted me and said that she met some guy named James who is a Web designer, who bought a new house in Colorado, and he’s taking me away for the weekend to show me a good time."

Mar 28
2:40AM
Posted on Julie’s Myspace from mobile: “Just wanted to say im ok and that people shouldnt worry about me and to stop bothering me i want to enjoy my time”

Julie’s car was found by her aunt in a Walgreens parking lot in South Austin (South First at Stassney). This is a different Walgreens than where Julie worked. Per Julie’s mother, the Walgreens where her car was found is 4 blocks from George’s house. Julie’s keys and purse were not in the car. Layla’s medicine, Layla’s car seat, and other other little personal belongings were in the car.

Date?
Per George, after Julie went missing, “So my mom called the police to just make a report because I was having a lot of problems with Julie saying that she wanted to put me in police supervision because of Layla. There’s times that I come late to give it to her because there’s certain times I have to give to her, and there’s times that I’m going to be there and Julie will be mad.”

Mar 31 – Apr 7
Per George, between about Mar 31 and Apr 7, he signed the divorce papers and submitted them to the court.

Apr 7
Julie’s credit card used by person at Best Buy in Austin to purchase a PG-rated movie called Spiderwick Chronicles. The credit card activity had been discovered by Julie’s aunt, who reported it to LE. Julie’s aunt had access to Julie’s bank statements.

Apr 20
LE showed video to Julie’s mother of person at Best Buy who used Julie’s credit card. Julie’s mother said it was not Julie.

Apr 25
Julie’s family raises $5,000 reward for information leading to Julie’s whereabouts

Apr 29
According to Julie’s mother on JVM, LE called her and told her that Julie was now considered missing, endangered and high priority. When contacted by reporter Michelle Sigona, Detective Scott said he was not allowed to comment on whether the case was case has been elevated to an endangered persons case -- endangered missing persons case as a high priority case or not.

George also had no problem with the police searching his home and out buildings. When asked if they took his computer, he replied no. This probably means that the police really dont think he is involved (at this time, anyway). IF he harmed Julie, he is one of the best that I have ever seen. Sounds like (and I agree) this family is not looking at anyone but George, and he is afraid.

So are they actively searching for who used Julie's cc at Best buy? The Spiderwick Chronicles is a kids movie, have they released a video of the person using the card to see if the public could help identify them? (if the video was clear enough for her mother to know that it wasn't Julie, then maybe it's clear enough for the public to maybe recognize the person?)

... Austin Police Department's spokeswoman Anna Sabana, the case is still open and being investigated.

Unfortunately, she also asserts that there is no physical evidence to indicate that Gonzalez was a victim of foul play, and without probable cause, police cannot search her abandoned car or look at her phone records
