If anybody has not read the Texas Monthly article, DO!!! it is a real eye opener.

I feel SO sorry for Kari & Matt's two girls. not only did they loose thier mother, they may very well loose thier father too.

and while Matt may be a monster in our eyes, they see him as Daddy.

I still have not found online records for this case. I found the 19th District Court Criminal Docket calendar and it looks like next Friday there is a status conference.
Link to 19th Court page: http://www.co.mclennan.tx.us/distjudges/19thcourt.aspx (see docket link)
I have the case number: THE CITY OF HEWITT } Case No: 06-0439

COUNTY OF McLENNAN } COMPLAINT

This is from the arrest warrant posted at Waco Trib: http://www.wacotrib.com/news/content/news/stories/2007/09/21/09212007wacbakerwarrant.html

I also sent Cindy V. Culp Tribune-Herald staff writer an email asking if she could link me or post the filings on the papers site. I will let you know if I hear back from her.

I will keep digging ................

Waco in Texas - re: where I got there was a status hearing.....

It is on this excel speadsheet - got to page I listed, pick criminal court docket and it is Matt Baker with attorney Gray, charge murder set to go to trial on the 12th........ line 47 and 48.

Since it's already after 5 for me on Friday, today's schedule is not up anymore. I think that might have been an old setting that wasn't updating. Maybe set before the Dec 30th one came up and took it's place. I talked to the DA's office and Kari's mom today and no one mentioned a hearing today. Oh, well....... LOL

I will be there Monday afternoon for the pre-trial matters and motions in limine. I'll be going a little early to check in with the district clerk's office to see what motions and filings are being brought.

Good news. I think. The DA's office said that while they are not 100% sure yet, they don't don't plan (as of now) to have to call me as a witness. That's good for 3 reasons: 1) I don't have to stress out about it. Not that it's complicated. But I am a girl. Worry about how I look and if I'll stutter or look/sound stupid. LOL 2) It tells me that they don't NEED that statement....meaning they are feeling pretty good to go! 3) If I can officially be removed from the witness list, I might be able to to be in the courtroom for what I've waited and worked for 4 years.....to see justice unfold. Prayers, please!

Okay. I was also told that most likely (again, not for certain) the news stations and newspaper reporters will be able to give their updates and reports without much limitation. The newspaper usually updates throughout the day on these things. She wasn't perfectly certain on whether video and sound from the pool camera would be shown on the news or not. We'll find out soon enough.

I feel for the girls more than anyone else involved. And, yes, they may see him as Daddy now and will be greived to see him go to jail. But what you must know is that while he not only murdered their Mother, he has villified and badmouthed Kari. The girls should ultimately know which one of their parents is the monster and which one of their parents loved and adored them and did not leave them by her own hand. Growing up with that MASSIVE lie in their lives is far more damaging to their hearts and souls than their dad going to prison for the crime he committed. Don't you agree?

Hello,

I'm a longtime lurker. Just read this:

WACO - Just days before Matt Baker's murder trial is to begin, News Channel 25 has learned his attorneys filed a motion Friday to move the trial out of Waco.

Baker is a former preacher accused of murdering his wife Kari Baker and trying to make it look like suicide.

They say media coverage, both local and national, had created great prejudice against their client and that a fair and impartial trial cannot be obtained.

You're quick. I heard about this earlier today but didn't know when it was okay to talk about it....since I'm not talking about it. ;)
I truly don't think he'll get it. Many reasons. Another big recent murder case in Waco was Darlene Gentry. She finally asked for a change of venue but didn't get it.

The key word in the reporting that Matt's attorneys need to highlight in their own brains......NATIONAL media. Moving the trial to another city in Texas.....uh, NATIONAL coverage. 48 Hours, 20/20 and our very own Texas Monthly are seen and read all over Texas, right?

Lordy.

We could look the whole world over and find information (thanks to the www.) I do understand the influence of the media attention and how it could affect a trial BUT with 'news' being delivered on a world wide basis, is there a 'safe place' to hold a trial?

With our 'world wide coverage' of everything and anything, I really can't believe there wouldn't be a tainted jury pool anywhere you look? It's JMO and something I think is interesting in the way that laws may have to be re-looked at because of the availabilty of news?

Just so you don't think I am a crazy old lady - LOL Here is a screen shot from when I downloaded it!

I can't wait to hear updates and if you are not called, does that mean you can blog here and on your blog about the case each day?

This is standard, btw they are merely preserving the appeal. If they didn't inadequate representation might be claimed by Matt if (WHEN, IMHO!) he is convicted.

I am sure none of us think you're a "crazy old lady", I'm betting we all think you are 'way cool' for grabbing the screen shot! It is kind of soothing to see the word "murder" after Matt Baker's name, in a sad sort of way. On one hand it's a relief that he is being called to answer for his alleged crime and in the other hand, it's sad that marriages end this way.

I'm so thankful for those of you who fight for justice for Kari. Bless you all and my prayers are with Kari's family and friends.

Thanks Junkie! I particularly like this part:
In addition to local and state news coverage, the Baker case has attracted the interest of national TV news magazines “20/20” and “48 Hours.” It was Guy James Gray, a Kerrville attorney who is co-representing Baker, who invited local, state and national media to interview Baker in December 2007. Gray told the Tribune-Herald that no questions for his client were off-limits. Baker discussed, in detail, the night of his wife’s death, allegations of infidelity and researching online how to kill someone with sleeping pills.

Gray's own thoughts and words!!
Oh, I'm "Friend" in the comments on these various places. You probably already figured that out, though. ;)

If you're a crazy old lady, I'm freakin' batpoo crazy lady. I think we can appreciate one another. ;)

I'll know more Monday when I talk to the DA's again. However, I will promise not to blog if I need to in order to get myself in that courtroom. I won't offer that up right off the bat, but I'll give it up in order to witness justice first hand. We'll see. I'll let you know as soon as I do.

Get outta my head! That was my favorite part too! The author did a nice job of pointing out the lack of merit of their motion Friday without "doing so"!!!! Watch that motion be denied for just that reason! I really hope the judge asks him, "Where in Texas is not part of National?"
Oh, and I am News! I kinda thought you were friend! Of course, I have my ideas on the multiple Matt's and clan too! hehe

Do you how old the girls are? and are they seeking life or death?

:dance:I am thrilled to have you crazy old ladies to keep us informed with the latest news. Please, carry on!

Thank you - and thanks for making me feel okay in my craziness!

On another note I found this last night - if you feel so inclined, lets keep some candles burning to bring light and justice to Kari, her family and Kari's memory!

ROFL! I gotta remember that one.

Yes, Tommy Witherspoon is a great reporter and a great man. I haven't met Cindy Culp yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

The "fun" part about pondering if it's Matt or his mommy or their one rabid supporter with a keyboard is when they hit my site and I try to track IP numbers to times with entry page and exit page stats on other comments on other places. I'm too busy to do it much these days, but it's cheap entertainment when I do have time.
