Dallas Teen Indicted for Murder of Well-Known Marketing Executive

Updated on December 11, 2020 at 12:56 pm

Police say a 16-year-old accused of murdering North Dallas marketing executive Leslie Baker not only faces a capital murder charge in her case, but also a carjacking charge in Richardson that happened a day after Baker’s death.
According to Dallas police, Lewis 'attempted to carjack the victim and killed her during the commission of the crime.'

Lewis was arrested two days after the shooting following a high-speed chase.

Police said Lewis was also a suspect in two armed carjackings, one in Dallas and another in Richardson the day after Baker’s murder.

Police did not initially release Lewis's name because he was 16 years old at the time of the shooting.

Lewis turned 17 in June, and he has been certified to stand trial as an adult. In Texas criminal courts, people 17 and older are considered adults.

Police also said 18-year-old Antony Isaiah Taylor and 19-year-old Deng Chen Ajack were arrested in connection with the murder. Taylor and Ajack were interviewed by police and admitted to their involvement in the crime, police said.

Released to home confinement?!

This is the latest I can find on this case (February, 2022)

Suspect in capital murder case of Dallas woman released on home confinement

Leslie Squire Baker was in her driveway on Royalton near the intersection of Royal and Preston when she was killed. She was on her phone at the time and even said she was being robbed.

Three teenagers were arrested several days later after another failed carjacking in Richardson.

One of them, Antony Lewis, was 16 at the time. He's 18 and has been certified to stand trial for capital murder as an adult. Now a judge has reduced bond and allowed Lewis to get out of jail on home confinement as long as he wears an ankle monitor.

The other two remain locked up.

A 20-year-old man was convicted of capital murder Friday for killing a woman in the driveway of her North Dallas home on Memorial Day 2020.

Anthony Jermaine Lewis, who was 16 at the time, was found guilty in the fatal shooting of 59-year-old Leslie Squair Baker. Lewis received an automatic life sentence but will be eligible for parole after 40 years because he was a minor at the time of the slaying.

I'd forgotten about this case. I recall the shooting took place at the beginning of Covid, and the victim was on the phone with a friend when she was shot. The victim had just delivered a birthday gift to the friend and left it on her porch.

From the Sept 2023 quoted link, I wonder why the defendant went to trial? In my experience, Tx is easy on plea agreements. Lewis could have done better than 40 yrs before being eligible for parole. And not that I have any wish for his penalty decreased.

In Feb 2023, Magen Fieramusca, also charged with Capital Murder in Travis County, after murdering her best friend, Heidi Broussard, and kidnapping her newborn baby, took a plea deal and was sentenced to 55 years, but she'll be eligible for parole after serving about half, and also received credit for time served! And all her other charges were dismissed-- including kidnapping the newborn!

In comparison, Fieramusca knew her victim, brutally betrayed her, and eligible for parole in only 26 years.

Broussard's killer makes a deal
