Really random but I'd like to discuss Lori's nose...

It really is very crooked to one side, yet I have read here that she had a nose job at some point. Do we know when that was and was it to correct the crookedness? How did it get that bent in the first place?

No, in fact we don't know that she had a rhinoplasty. People have speculated that this is possible because it is known that she had breast implants, so the extrapolation is that if she had one, she would do the other.

Hi ya! I'm a long time lurker on this thread. Maybe it's the timing, but I found the Reddit post about LEK possibly being Karen Reinert really freaky. I read the Reinert case files for the first time last week. It's not exactly that far fetched.
FWIW- LEK's height is a breaking point for me for many of the MPs that have been compared so far. I'm 5'9" and me, along with a few tall girlfriends, had reached this height by 16, give or take maybe an inch. Whoever she is, her height would have been significant. She would have most likely been tall at 9, 10, etc.
I guess this is where I circle back to Karen Reinert. Was she tall for her age?
Regarding the nose job-I'm leaning more towards the fact that her nose was once broken and she never had it "re-set." My nose was busted in 2 places when I was 19. They sent me home with strict orders to return in 1 week to have it reset. 4 days later, swelling subsided, I had a beautiful narrow new nose!! But it was also pointing in another direction when I tilted my head upward. I'm wondering if this is the case with LEK, or something similar.
Bakersfield-Gross as it is, I remember girls that went to neighboring cemeteries to obtain fake IDs in this manner. But BAKERSFIELD? I'm born and raised in the Bay Area and we call Bakersfield the armpit of CA. I would think that unless you're familiar with Bakersfield, you'd never wind up there sifting through children at cemeteries.

As far as I know I don't have Marfan's or anything else. I was 5'6" by 14 and then grew 2 more inches around 17 to 18. I grew 3 inches total in college (17 to 20). I didn't think it was that odd.

I agree, I think her nose looks the same in all the photos and looks like it was broken. I see no evidence of a nose job as has been suggested. Also, the Turner sisters are buried in Puyallup, Washington.

Here's my theory at the moment. I think she had a psychotic break in her late teens that started onset of paranoid schizophrenia. I believe she started to believe her life was in danger and this prompted her identity change then maybe things were ok for awhile then she felt threatened again so another name change. Her husband seems like he may have just overlooked the crazy and that's how they ended up married.

I met a friend of mine about 11 yrs ago over a mutual interest in a certain missing persons case. She was someone I grew fairly close to but there were times she would go off the radar. She told me early on she had bipolar disorder. The case she was working on involved some possible police corruption and this prompted her to believe she was being stalked by a high ranking officer of our county PD. She also thought her phones were tapped by local governments officials. She would say they put cameras in her home, tampered with her car, broke in her house etc. she truly believed this to the point I started to believe it too. She lived alone with her family out of state. I do not believe any of this was happening but I know to her it was a real threat. She did not have Internet or even a computer for she thought she was being tracked. She even ordered a special cell phone without gps so "they" couldn't track her. She would also record all of her phone calls. Her home was always piled high with files and papers that she had requested from various police departments on her pet case as well as boxes of cassette tapes spanning years of recorded phone calls.

This woman was highly intelligent and I believe would have made a great investigator. I always believed she actually had schizophrenia and not bipolar. On Jan 12th of this year I was told she took her life by gunshot to her head just like FLEK. I am heartbroken I never realized how awful it must have been for her thinking someone wanted to kill her.

The irony is that she always told friends if she were found dead of an unatural cause that we should assume it was murder. I reached out to her best friend and asked her what she thought and she said she doesn't think it was anything but a suicide.

I found Deborah J Stalder on ancestry, Ulysses S Grant High School in Van Nuys CA... class of 1977.

Birth year matches with age of Stalder mentioned in news reports.

Wow, Sandra Hopler's photo is a VERY close match. This could very well be her. I did a quick overlay in Photoshop, and her facial features line up with FLEK perfectly. What also jumps out at me is how her photo bears the closest resemblance to FLEK's earliest picture. Other proposed missing girls have looked similar to one or more of her older pictures in various ways, but this (the lineup in post #943) looks like a genuine age progression. SH's facial shape does however greatly resemble FLEK in her heavier photos. I think this is the closest match candidate yet, based on photos alone. If the new information is true, this could be it.

I have to admit it has crossed my mind before she really could be Becky Sue. We know she was said to have perished in the fire and buried with her siblings. So we're lead to believe that to be truth. But stranger things have happened.

Interesting idea on Stadler.

I really WANT to know who she was. I've followed this case forever but have not really had much to add so I mostly lurk, but it's one of those cases where you just really want to KNOW who she really was. What was her birth name, what is her story? It's frustrating to think we may be left with a "Identified" and it be left at that.

Oddly, there is another Debbie Stalder in a Tacoma Washington year book in 1972 that really looks like FLEK. I don't neccesarily think it is her, but both of these resemble her earliest driver's license photo quite a bit in my opinion.

I don't recall all the details on Deborah Stalder, but the article that comes up on her when doing a google search is from 1988 and says she is 28, so would have been born in 1960, making her 12 in 1972, so not high school age.

Are we allowed to post pictures from Ancestry on here?

Further searches (not related to yearbooks or ancestry) show an additional associated/different name of DJS living in CA... (maybe married name) also begins with "S".

And, I'd guess 'no' regarding photos. I think we're already pushing the WS rules since Stalder isn't a "missing person"

I had never heard of this case before this week...now I wish I almost hadn't since all I have done is read through these threads. Does anyone have any links readily available about the events leading to her suicide? Seems like she kept it together for a lot of years until the end. I really liked the bankruptcy post someone posted with some great insight into how that could have been a very well thought out move on her part. She seemed to gain confidence each passing year with her new identities and had little worry when applying for loans, filing chapter 13, etc b/c IMO these things draw attention to dig into one's past, something I would not think she would want to do. Yet she did not want an engagement photo in a local paper...what a fascinating case that many of you have followed for years and I am just getting started!
