"The catch and release killer"

Excerpts:
The Mona Nelson case now brings forward the other "catch and release" problem we face in our justice system, the tendency of the prosecutors to take the easy way out and let criminals plea bargain their way out of jail time.
In retrospect, anyone with half a brain should have recognized Nelson was violent and would probably some day kill somebody. So why was she walking around, free as a bird?
Because prosecutors can count any kind of guilty plea - even one that only results in probation - as a "win". So they take the easy way out and let people remain at large, until - like Nelson - they commit some truly heinous crime.
[In the comment section, a poster states that "... the victim in the Mona Nelson case in Titus County filed an Affidavit of Non-Prosecution in that case on January 31, 2002."]
