Beltonian, thank you all for your service. I have been reading up on mountain lions in Texas. I am astounded at the number of sightings, the number that are shot by ranchers and pictured by witnesses. It seems they have made an eastward migration. Two counties north of Fort Hood, a young man hit a 200 lb. cougar with his car and killed it in January. A cougar has a 400 square mile roaming area. Now, I am very worried about Vanessa if she was running alone and you have told me about numerous hiking trails with little human activity. Especially, if she loved to run, she could probably go very far distances being in great shape.

I think a fatal cougar attack is highly unlikely imo

There have been like 5 fatal cougar attacks on humans in the last 20yrs in all of North America combined

possible sure, but it’s pretty low on the list of possibilities

Also I think the fact that VG’s phone went Dead shortly after she disappeared says a lot about where this case is headed.

Someone who wanted to harm her is almost certainly involved imo

BBM:

VG's family and friends appear to be doing all the right things right now to raise public awareness and to keep shining the spotlight on her disappearance, both in MSM and SM.

I'm a firm believer that the more public attention a case receives, the better the chances of LEAs investing time and resources into solving it.

CID was all over this case very early.
They knew there was something amiss almost immediately.
The fact that both the FBI and Texas Equusearch have been brought in to assist shows that CID is utilizing all the tools and resources, both internal and external, available to them.

I think it's more likely than not that they've already conducted some "interviews."
I'm also confident they've already served some warrants r/t this case.
The fact that they haven't named a suspect doesn't mean they don't have one.

I don't think we'll be sitting here 6 months from now saying, "What happened to Vanessa?"

I think we'll all know sooner rather than later what's happened to her.

JMO.

I guess you're right. I think the reason I have been feeling that it isn't getting much attention is that I haven't seen it anywhere in my local city. I live in "military city" here in TX, and it has not been on the news much, if at all! I keep sharing it over on Twitter, and I barely see about 30 rt's a day on there.

I really do hope warrants have been served on this case. My heart breaks for her and her family.

The possibilities are definitely low. They would've found something of hers. However on that note, there was a sailor on Lackland AFB that got attacked by one in his front porch! This happened about 3-5 years ago. It was pretty scary!

Unfortunately, the media has been so hellbent on covering all the covid-related crap 24-7, there hasn't been much of anything else being reported on the news whatsoever.

The timing of her disappearance is really unfortunate.

Missing persons cases everywhere probably aren't getting the news coverage they otherwise might have received.

I do think the Army CID has been doing their part to make the public aware, i.e., reward offered, media releases, statements by the Army's top brass, etc.

Yep fortunately in this case it was almost certainly someone she knows and who is going to be very local so big MSM coverage might not be so critical.

The local media has seemed to be covering every thing that has been released from the family and Army officials. The problem is there really hasn't been a lot of information to report as of yet.

Like you have said they seemed to take this case very seriously early on with CID, FBI and local agencies all involved

I think we will have answers fairly quickly in this case

Maybe her phone didn't go dead, maybe someone shut it off or took the battery out. Does anyone know if they tried to turn the phone on remotely? Is that possible?
Was she planning to 'meet' someone in the parking lot, if only to stop briefly on her way to somewhere else, like a run? She wouldn't go without her ID and keys unless she thought she was just going out for a quick trip to the parking lot. If someone claimed to have a car they wanted to sell, maybe she was in the parking lot where that car was parked.
Someone didn't have to bring a car, there were already cars there. What if she walked out with someone, that person snatched her, then said, 'I saw her in the parking lot when I was leaving'. It wouldn't even be a lie. All that person has to do is leave out the part where he stuffed her (or knocked her out) in the car somewhere.
That is one huge parking lot (lengthwise but not width), but it doesn't look so busy that she could not be easily seen. I just wish I knew which was her building.
If she planned to 'meet' someone, doesn't it mean it was someone she knew, and trusted, to a degree? I'm the first to admit I trusted people I shouldn't have, but I'm also aware that 'stranger/danger' is a myth. Most children are sexually assaulted and females killed by someone they know. Maybe a lot of the time, the murder isn't planned. It may be a neighbor, a relative, someone from school, another child, but it's often someone you know.
Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis, were killed by the father of a classmate. Also, Ariel Castro was the father of one Gina DeJesus's friends. Don't get me started, I could go on quite awhile.

Okay, I confess. I thought mountain lions were more nocturnal. ???
They typically are. However I live in Temple and they have been spotted here during the daytime before. Ironically at a place called Lions Park ;)
I have seen a bobcat on the road behind my house and that was in the afternoon. It was just standing there on the side of the road. I stopped and we stared at each other and then it ran back in the woods.

 I'd have had to go home and change my pants, I'll bet.

Texas also has some other cats, like the jaguarundis and possibly jaguars from New Mexico
They have poisonous snakes at Ft. Hood, correct? And other creatures. Do they have coyotes? Which of these that have been mentioned could be rabid, therefore, being nocturnal is a moot point because rabid=unusual behavior. Would someone running know to look for these animals, and how does a runner avoid being pursued by these aforementioned creatures?
On the other hand, is it fairly well established it wasn't a four legged predator that got to Vanessa?

I thought of rattlesnakes too. I have stepped over a snake, not a rattlesnake, walking slowly without even seeing them on a trail while they are sunning. I do not know enough about cell phones and pings to know what would happen to a cell phone if someone was disabled while running.

Recent mountain lion story... i live next to Rocky Mtn National Park in rural neighborhood. Lions pass through frequently.... Last week received lion alert from neighbors alerting regarding importance of having pets on leash etc... And next day the lion killed a coyote right behind the house... fur, tail, and a very clean ribcage was all that was left. I didn't hear a thing and it happened around 3 pm. They are around, they see us, but we hardly ever see them...

I don't think that a mountain lion harmed VG, but a calculated human predator.

MOO.

Yes to poisonous snakes and coyotes. The coyotes typically aren’t interested in people though. The snakes on the other hand... I was chased by a rattlesnake on a walking trail several years ago. Pretty scary!
