LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Jury selection has begun for the trial of Juan David Ortiz, the former Border Patrol agent accused of a series of murders in Laredo.

The trial will be going on in Bexar County since the defense team asked for a change of venue.

On Wednesday, Ortiz was transferred to the Bexar County Jail as he awaits the start of the court proceedings.

The district attorney for Webb and Zapata County, Isidro Alaniz said he is seeking life without parole.

The trial is set to begin Nov. 28 and is anticipated to last two weeks.

Yes I know the trial start on 11/28 - but no one mentions anything about jury selection - at least from what I can find.
So they could be finished or still going on - ?? That is what I would like to know! :)

And the article is from 10/21 - so there have been already 6 days of jury selection if it went thru Friday.

Edited to add - now I am thinking the trial might be delayed if the State ask for psychiatric exam on him..... I truly hope not!

Ortiz, however, was a regular customer on San Bernardo Avenue. Police say he confessed to the murders.

Although he gave police a confession, Ortiz has pleaded not guilty.

According to court documents, PTSD and the medication Ortiz was taking for it are expected to be brought up during the trial in his defense.
