Wow.

Two kids failed by the world.

Both had loving families and that just wasn't enough.

A 13-year-old neighbor has been arrested in connection with the fatal beating of a 5-year-old boy whose body was found Wednesday afternoon behind a vacant house in southeast Fort Worth, not far from where he had last been seen riding his bicycle.

The teen, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, is accused of hitting Sida Osman repeatedly in the head with an undisclosed object.

----------------

On Thursday afternoon, homicide investigators arrested Sida’s 13-year-old neighbor, accusing the boy of delinquent conduct/capital murder.

Very good article, ty MsF'. I wasn't in the least bit surprised to read of the 13 yr olds troubled history. I'd like to know why someone with anger issues, who has had run-ins with police, wasn't watched/helped/in juvi when he had already threatened to kill. I guess they don't take threats seriously these days and wait until the person actually commits these crimes. :banghead:

I'm still outraged by this case. Sida should have been running around playing, riding his beloved bike and excitedly anticipated starting KG in the fall.

Sleep peacefully Sida. Your (alleged) killer has been caught and your family will be getting prayers from many from near and far.

My heart is breaking for this boy and his family.

I'm sorry but I don't consider the perps family victims. I have a 10 yr old and I can't imagine him having the capacity to beat a 5yr old to death with a weapon. I'd bet this kid was trouble and has been trouble for some time. Unless it is a crime of passion (intimate relationship type) I do not believe people just wake up one day with the capacity to murder.

Unfortunately, this is not always true. I have seen it myself.
Until family dynamics are known no one should assume anything. Not always is it black and white

Check out the star-telegram link MsFacetious posted. The family dynamics are in that article. This teen was a danger loooong before he and Sida crossed paths.

But it also indicates his mother had tried everything in her power to deal with the situation. It also claims she herself was being abused by her own son.

The local social worker/person who runs the boys home somewhat contradicts this. He mentioned the 13 yr old not wearing a bracelet and the mothers behavior. My guess, if the info about the panhandling is true, she's not mentally healthy and instead of seeking help for herself, she is bashing the kid and blaming him......

My God what a horrible case. :(

RIP little Sida. You did not deserve this. Ride your bike and fly with the angels.

In what article does it mention the things you mentioned above? I couldn't find anything like what you have written?

TIA

RIP little man <3

You know, this reeks of another kid killing him.

ETA Well, given the post above me, I guess it smelled right.

Me too. Was just going to post this same thing and I see a 13 yr old has been arrested.

At least there's been an arrest....poor little guy and his family :(

Just adding (because I cant remember if I saw this or not on the threads)
Huffington Post
Although Sida's parents are Somali refugees, the boy was born in the United States.

Sida's mother, Dahabo Abdi, told Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT that she did not know the suspect.

http://www.myfoxdfw.com/video?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=9033329

From the video - there was word on the street as to where Sida's body was laying prior to the Police being alerted to where he was.
The Police had also checked the parents car.

Last night on the www.wfaa.com news Sida's father says he's not sure of the story. He says he knows for a fact he checked that back yard earlier in the day and Sida was NOT there so he feels he was moved there sometime late morning .

And here is what's wrong with this country and its utter DISREGARD for children. Wfaa, which I quoted above from last night's 10 pm newscast has nothing about Sida 's story on its website this morning. Here's a run down of todays' MUCH MORE important stories.

Fort Worth officer arrested for suspicion of DWI after accident
Cowboys' Josh Brent held without bond after failing second drug test
John Wiley Price again calls out DISD superintendent for 'ineffective leadership'

ETA One day after an arrest and two days after his MURDER , little Sida is no longer important enough to be mentioned in the top TWELVE items of news for the day and 3 of those items are SPORTS and 3 of those items are POLITICS. Sickening !

Oops wrong case about the panhandling. Sorry!

Here is what the local youth home founder had to say about the 13 yr old being arrested for Sida's murder:

News of the 13-year-old’s arrest was not surprising to Rick Stokes, founder of the Stokes Christian Boys Home in east Fort Worth, in which the teen had been involved for several years.

“This had been building up for years and years,” Stokes said.

Stokes said the suspect’s life has not been an easy one. While a baby, the boy’s father was sentenced to prison for several years. Upon his release, the father reunited with the family but later left the boy’s mother for another woman, leaving the boy feeling abandoned, Stokes said.

“He’s got a lot of rage and anger in him,” Stokes said. “Being a little kid, he didn’t know how to handle it.”

Stokes said the teen began acting out — running away, getting into fights, stealing items like bicycles, and, on occasion, threatening to kill others. He’d been in and out of juvenile detention and was currently on probation, Stokes said.

I'm going to add, many kids grow up without a father or a parent in prison. It doesn't give them an excuse to murder. Lot's of people have tough lives and don't turn to murder when they are irritated.

I've known parents who had to make the difficult choice to have their child institutionalized in a permanent group home because their child was a danger to others. I'm sure it was a difficult decision for the parents, but they knew their child was in a safer place would not harm other children and could get help from professionals who were better at treating children with these types of problems. They visit often so it's not like they abandoned the child.....

Sometimes we have to make difficult choices for our children and accept that we as parents can not provide every single thing our children need. That's why we have them see doctors etc.

Every mental health specialist asks, do you feel like harming yourself or others? This 13 yr old already stated he was going to kill...... and he was left on the streets to carry out his threat.

And from the same article/source:

Stokes said the mother tried to help her son, even getting him placed on medication in attempt to control his anger but it didn’t seem to help.

“She was doing all she could. He had actually gotten to the point where he was physically abusing her,” Stokes said.

Medication alone is not going to help a child with the 13 yr olds problems. I've seen nothing to indicate 13 yr old and mom were getting any type of counseling or therapy. His behavior escalating was a clear indicator whatever help he was getting was not working. Did she actively seek out additional/new resources to help as the behavior was escalating?

This 13 yr old needed intervention with a child psychologist years ago. Did he get one? Did they participate in family counseling? If they are poor, the county provides that type of help for those who need it.

Sida was last seen playing outside the Webber Garden apartment complex Tuesday when his mother called for him about 6:30 p.m. and he took off on his bike, relatives said.

The family searched fruitlessly for the boy before calling police shortly after 10 p.m. to report the child missing. Police searched for him on foot and by horse and helicopter Tuesday night and Wednesday.

I'm of the camp that a five year-old should not be playing alone outside ever and then to supposedly search for close to four hours before calling police and then to criticize LE for not taking them seriously, even though, according to reports, 30 officers showed up?!

I feel bad for the family but they cannot cast stones IMO
rest peacefully little guy ~
