I am recovering from foot surgery and have caught myself walking like SwatPerp.

I've posted this before, I have a congenital hip dysplasia & scoliosis/curvature of the spine, also valgus deformity or knock-knees. If I've been doing my home Physical Therapy exercises, I don't walk like SwatPerp.

If I skip a few days, the weather is bad, or I ride in the car too long -- I walk like Swat Perp in the videos.

I have NOT been in Texas for several years or drive a Nissan.

:seeya:

Point well taken;) lol

I think SP was simply splay-footed. Some are like that. I recall the Dallas Cowboys had one of their better players who ran like that, years ago, so it can simply be a physical trait.

I think that some people simply have that distinctive gait as well ... I just wanted to bring up the dance training angle into the realm of possibilities, since there seemed to be so much debate on why the person walked this way.

Thanks for all the responses, and together they demonstrate the point that there's no objective reason to think SP's odd gait was somehow contrived or different from his norm. Is it POSSIBLE he could have been doing it intentionally? Of course. But it takes a lot of unproven assumptions to get there and create the situation where "he was just faking his gait for an hour" is more than a devil's advocate idea in which EACH known piece of evidence is considered to be unproven until the case is solved.

That was to be my next question. IF perp had training as an actor would they be able to fake the gait? Could they have altered the footwear in some way to create the gait? If the knee is hyperextended it couldn't be faked.

Hadn’t seen these photos in a while. And a couple of them not at all.
-Still photos certainly captured things a moving picture doesn’t.
-If you intently (for a few minutes) focus on the top right photo, you see a light-skinned woman (or unlikely but possibly a very feminine male).
-Even the eye-shape is somewhat discernible.
-Doesn’t looklike a particularly tall person. I think it’s within LE’s range.
-Bottom 4 photos. #3 is more of a stance of awoman. Guys generally don’t take that stance.
-I kinda hadforgotten how much info LE has. SPmust be slightly outside their circle of candidates. OR they don’t have much besides the pictures, and that’s not enough to prosecute.
I was in the“dancer” camp initially. That onestance with toes pointed straight out is almost impossible for a regular personto do (without tipping over). I wasopposed on several fronts. #1. They said dancers are graceful and movegracefully. SP does not. #2. Youcan achieve that pose by putting your shoes on backward (I tried and it kinda worked). Add to that. Wearing a bulky outfit, shin guards, et al. And altogether that does alter your walk a little.
-Agree withSteve that it is not a manufactured walk. That is too difficult to do consistently and over the long term. (spoke with an orthopedic Dr I know and healso agreed). And why. He had seen the vid and felt the gait was authentic (not faked). That doesn’t preclude that wearing unnatural gear and footwear couldn’t alter it some.
-Those surelook like actual shin guards. SP wasloaded for battle.
-I trust LEhas had long and extensive conversations with orthopedic experts to give theminsight into what they really are looking for.

Very little is truly "impossible" ...but I don't think it's productive to go down that rabbit hole, because if we do then the entire discussion of evidence becomes meaningless. You no longer have a lighter-skinned perp because he could have used makeup, you no longer have a shape of the face because he could have put cotton in his cheeks, you no longer have a general idea of weight because he could have used foam padding to alter the appearance of weight, you no longer have a general idea of height because he could have used sizable lifts to alter height, and so on forever. IMO it makes for a better analysis to stick with the obvious, which tends to also be where the facts almost always lie. JMO.

Very sensible, yes. I think my hang up is I have a POI in mind and can check many, many boxes but the gait is not one of them. If I could find a picture of my POIs legs without long pants and I saw hyperextended knees I would check another box, but not the feet/ gait unless there was a recent injury around the time of the murder.

To me in that top pic of SP (black and white) it very much looks like they are wearing some kind of brace/walking boot on the left leg. The other leg looks like it is wearing a regular, lower to the ground, thinner shoe.
Would walking with one regular shoe and one walking boot make a person walk with that odd gait? (If it was-or was not needed.)
That line of inquiry makes me wonder if the boot was purposeful- as in, used as part of the disguise- could the boot have been obtained as part of the costume? Or was used for a previous or current (at the time of the murder) injury by the perp? Or could whatever the perp may (or may not) be wearing have been "borrowed" from somebody who previously needed to wear a walking boot? Questions, questions, questions. No answers.

(Sorry this was referring to the images in post 535 by NIN. I hope this entire post [or parts of it anyways...] makes sense to somebody- as I am super exhausted after all of the Halloween festivities this weekend.)

CW gait does hyper extend and bow leg type walk. YouTube videos. The stance could also be a pivot in turning if SP was in a mid turn position. Lots of variables.

In AJT self defense classes, do they wear shin guards? What about the other specialties?

I agree... I observed two different pieces of footwear as well... Why would SP try to kill someone while wearing a prosthetic boot, if they couldn't move very well in it? Another question...

Another point I was thinking about is why would perp go through all the costuming to conceal ID when their own unusual gait would ID them?

Good question. It has been asked here before and most of the answers were that people often aren't aware of how distinct their own walk is (or isn't). So maybe the perp never thought about it because he or she is so used to it and doesn't seem odd to him or her.

If you put a 5lb ankle strap weight on one leg and not the other; Then you will walk like that.

Or if you put a high heel lift in one boot will make you walk like that as well.

All day long. No faking needed. Jmo

But an upper body weight vest that is heavier than a bullet proof vest can also have a person walk with more of a diminished gait as well.
Especially since the hips are trying to walk with the added weight.

So I think the perp had a weight vest on underneath as well as something to manipulate the foot drag look. Such as a ankle weight strapped to one leg underneath the bulky clothing. Jmo

IMO in the still of SP it reminds me of how cholos or guys just out of prison pose... IYKWIM

No way are the gait and feet staged. Those are flat feed. There is no faking that. I don't think those are shin guards, but rather big rubbery boats that look even more pronounced (as in shin guards, because of the hyper extended legs and poor posture. Just Moo. Sure as heck could still be a woman who dressed like that to disguise her gender.

Opinions please. When viewing these pics of perp's legs are they hyperextended or is it the shin guards making them appear that way? Hopefully a WS member who can see these better than I will weigh in:)

I always felt that sp looks like someone with walking problems trying to walk straight and not being able to keep it up all the way through,as that is exhausting and it's hard to keep concentration.

I had no idea there was a just out of prison pose. Maybe, that is good, I didn't know that.

What is a "cholos"? IDK. Do they take pics of prisoners as they leave prison?

TIA
